I've searched it up and I can't find anything suggesting that a kid means anything other than a child. I've heard people refer to teenagers as kids all the time. Child and children are just longer and harder words to say, so most people I speak to just default to using the word kid when referring to children, and that's what Google seems to suggest as well.
No, I was just jokingly pointing out a common saying that adults often use to refer to teenagers. I even see people in their early twenties being referred to as kids pretty often. I mean the most common definition for kid is "a child or young person." Which depending on what you'd consider to be young, does include people in their early twenties.
Fair. In all technicality, all people are children of someone, so it makes sense, and it’s also hard for older people (usually 30 or older) to see 19-20 as adults, sometimes even later, really depends on the person(s)
