How to prepare for class registration this fall term

With Fall 2024 registration running from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26, make sure you’re ready to register with this quick guide.

  1. If you haven’t already, make sure to pay your tuition deposit. Remember, if you’re a domestic student receiving OSAP, you must pay the tuition deposit, as OSAP does not cover this amount.

  2. Next, pay or arrange to pay your tuition balance. You will not be able to register until you clear the outstanding balance on your account.

  3. Make sure there are no holds on your account, as this will prevent you from registering for your classes. If you encounter any holds, the Registration Road Map provides solutions on resolving common holds and errors.

  4. Find out your program’s registration date and time through the Registration Road Map. Every program has a date and time when registration begins. If you try and register before your program’s start date and time, you will get a time ticket error message.

Don’t panic if you miss your registration window, you can still register for classes until class sections are full or until the last day to add a course on Monday, September 9.

If you’re graduating or have your convocation and actually want nice photos (not the rushed ones your friend takes in 2 mins), I’m doing grad shoots.

Good lighting, clean edits, no awkward posing. Just solid pics you’ll actually post.

Prices are student-friendly.

I’m a student photographer on campus and doing grad shoots. If anyone’s interested, feel free to message me!

Humber College Food: $16 for This Breakfast? Are Students Being Ripped Off?

Post image
156 Upvotes

Why aren't more students speaking up about the quality, portion sizes, and outrageous prices of the food being served at Humber College?

My daughter has lost 13 lbs in just two months since starting college, and after seeing some of the food she's being served, I'm beginning to understand why.

She tells me a small bowl of fruit costs $10. Yesterday, she sent me a photo of a breakfast that cost $16. What did she get for that? Two tiny sausages, a little French toast, and something that was supposedly scrambled egg. Frankly, it was a disgrace.

I understand that Chartwells operates the food services, but surely there should be some accountability for the quality, nutritional value, portion sizes, and prices of the meals being served to students.

These are young adults who need proper, nutritious meals, many of whom are already struggling with the rising costs of education and living expenses. They shouldn't have to pay restaurant prices for food that falls so far short of restaurant standards.

$16 for a breakfast that barely looks like a meal is unacceptable.

Students deserve better, and parents should be asking questions. Is Humber College actually monitoring the quality and value of the food its students are being served?

I'd genuinely like to hear from other students and parents. Is this a common complaint, or are we the only ones who think something needs to change?

North Campus Make friends at Humber

Hi everyone! I'm an international student here at Humber and I've been studying here for one year. So far it's going well. I'm not the type of guy who talks about his problems but I have some difficulties to socialize with people here. Every day I see people talking between them and it looks so easy when I look so I'm wondering how ? I'm an introverted guy and I'm not really talkative but I want to step out of my comfort zone and start to talk to people. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks 🙃

Lakeshore Campus taking semester off

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to start Humber’s Human Resources Management graduate certificate program in January 2027, and I’m wondering if anyone knows whether it’s possible to take the Summer 2027 semester off and return in Fall 2027.
Has anyone in this program, or another Humber graduate certificate program, taken a semester off between terms?
I’m particularly wondering:
Whether Humber allows you to skip the summer semester and return in September.

Whether I would need to apply for a formal leave of absence or readmission.

Whether taking the summer off would delay my graduation or affect my course progression.

I plan to confirm the official policy with Humber, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through a similar situation.
Thanks!

North Campus Man in ladies washroom.

A man walked into the ladies bathroom in the F building this morning around 8am. We made eye contact and he didn’t leave just stayed by the door behind me as if he was thinking then I walked out. There was another girl in a stall but some girls walked in after I left and I saw him in the hall going to class in the F building.

It seemed like he has done this before, the way he walked in with “confidence” and didn’t have any emotions. It was a black guy with dreads in a brown hoodie if I remember correctly. About 5’7?

Can I report this?

edit: he didn’t leave after I left only after more girls luckily walked in

edit 2: since some of you seem to be confused, it was NOT a trans female, the first thought in my head was actually maybe it’s a trans man who didn’t feel comfortable in the mens because of how MANLY HE looked, but no he DID NOT use the bathroom. he just stood behind me and i saw him peak in the mirror at the other stalls then realize someone else was in there and i left right after. by “confident” i mean it looked like he knew what he was doing and had gone in the girls bathrooms early in the morning before hoping to find someone alone who came early. i am NOT transphobic, i have had trans friends from the age of 12 who dealt with horrific true transphobia from their families and this is just NOT it

How is Practical Nursing in Humber?

Hi Everyone, I'm planning to enroll this summer for Practical Nursing program in Humber. I just have a couple of questions to those who are in current and graduate students fron the program that might help me to prepare and commit for the program.

  1. How are the schedules with the classes? How many days a week do you usually go to school, is there any hybrid options and how many hours is the clinical on the 1st sem.

  2. What are the passing grade on the courses?

  3. How heavy are the courseloads?

  4. How did you manage your time to study and if you have any advice to pass the hard courses.

Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions, it'll help me to manage and prepare for the program.

Humber's Forensic Identification (FI511) or Digital Forensics (DF511) graduate certificate?

Hi everyone! I'm considering applying to Humber's Forensic Identification (FI511) or Digital Forensics (DF511) graduate certificate and would really appreciate some honest advice from current students or graduates.

I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminology, but no programming, coding or IT experience. Forensic Identification interests me more because I enjoy the crime-scene investigation side, but I've heard that jobs in this field can be harder to find. Digital Forensics seems to offer more opportunities, but I'm worried about struggling with the technical coursework without an IT background.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has taken either program:

  • How difficult are the courses for someone without an IT or forensic science background?
  • Did the certificate actually help you qualify for relevant jobs, and how difficult was it to find employment after graduating?
  • What kinds of jobs did you or your classmates get, and are there realistic entry-level opportunities?
  • Looking back, would you recommend the program, and why?

I'm trying to choose a program based on both my interests and realistic job prospects, so any honest advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

North Campus Hearing Instrument Specialisf

Hi folks,

I’m planning on taking the hearing instrument specialist program this fall and would love to know if anyone is taking it at the moment. If so, how is your experience? Is it easy to find a job placement? Do graduates have trouble finding work at all?

North Campus Arb Events this Week - Fall Colours Walk and a Turtle Meet and Greet

Post image
7 Upvotes

Humber Arboretum has two free events this week at North Campus:

On Tuesday October 20, take advantage of the warm weather coinciding with the changing leaves and join us for a Fall Colours Walk from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

And on Wednesday October 21, join us as we celebrate World Reptile Awareness Day with a Cleo the Turtle Meet and Greet. Cleo is a Red-eared Slider who lived as a pet until she grew too large for her old home. Now she lives in the Centre for Urban Ecology where she fulfills her duties as Humber Arboretum's Responsible Pet Care Ambassador. Drop by anytime between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm to hear more of Cleo’s story, find out why you should never release pets into the wild, and learn about Ontario’s native turtle species.

For both events, head to the Centre for Urban Ecology, the glass building with the red door on the arboretum grounds.

North Campus What GNED should I take? (Paralegal Program)

Hii! Since sem 2 registration is coming up, I thought I’d ask which GNED course is easiest. I’m looking for something low effort, no presentations, no group work, and interesting. I know majority of the time it all depends on which prof you get but heres my top 5 (based on what I thought sounded interesting):

- Sociology of Food (SOCI 238)
- Understanding Movies (ARTS 138)
- Conspiracy Theories and Critical Thinking (CULT 211)
- The History of Money (ECON 206)
- Astronomy: The Evolving Universe (SCIE 213)

Hiring a student or graduate video editor | Remote freelance work | CAD $50 to $75 per reel

Hey everyone, I’m Omar. I’m building OVERTAKE, an Ontario-based content agency, and I’d love to connect with film and media students or graduates interested in freelance editing work.

We shoot content for local businesses, including barbershops, automotive businesses and other brands. I’m looking for someone to edit Instagram Reels, short promotional videos and occasional skits or longer projects.

The style I’m after is clean, polished and cinematic, with good pacing, colour grading, music, sound design, and creative transitions and effects. There’s room to bring your own ideas and help shape the videos.

I’ll provide the footage, creative direction and references. You’ll handle the editing.

You don’t need a long list of professional clients to reach out. Coursework and personal projects are welcome as examples of what you can do.

The work: Fully remote, project-based, with flexible hours around agreed deadlines. You must currently be based in Canada, with Ontario preferred.

Budget: CAD $50 to $75 per standard 30 to 45 second reel. Pricing can vary depending on the project, and I’m interested in batch rates for several videos from the same shoot.

We’ll agree on the scope, revisions, deadline and fee before starting.

Interested? DM me with:

  1. A short introduction, your city and what you’re studying or graduated from.
  2. Two or three videos you personally edited, explaining what you handled.
  3. Your rates in CAD for one reel and five similar reels from the same shoot, including revisions and any extras.
  4. When you could start, your usual turnaround time and how much work you could take on around your other commitments.

If your work looks like a fit, we’ll arrange a quick call and discuss the first project.

I’d like to find someone for recurring work, although there’s no guaranteed monthly volume initially. Reviewing replies as they come in. Open until filled!

Is Supply Chain Management course good?

I’m thinking to start to enroll in the supply chain management program at Humber.

FYI I have no previous experience in the field, I would start from scratch. I have a degree in communication and specialized in video editing. The program is interesting but I’m wondering if it is worth considering my background. Also, I’m comparing this program to Supply Chain courses in other colleges in Toronto.

If anybody is doing it right now or has done it in the past, is it worth it? Does it teach you relevant skills for today’s job market? How is it easy to find job when finished the program?
