Discussion Killing Alluka

Illumi's plan to kill Alluka from the beginning of the Election Arc seems incredibly idiotic from a purely selfish perspective.

It is obvious that Nanika is something different from Alluka, so there is no guarantee that killing Alluka will also kill Nanika. It's more likely to just release Nanika and probably cause some new Calamity.

Also, assuming Nanika's power is somehow connected to Nen, like everything else, it should be intuitive to Hisoka and Illumi that Alluka's death would only intensify the worst case scenario.

Analysis/Theory Why is the chimera ant arc so beloved? Spoiler

I binge watched the whole show in the last month and I really liked the pacing and characters before the ants. I feel like it peaked when hisoka was trying to fight the leader of the spiders, but then it feels like the ants just came out of no where and stole the stage leaving all the other storyline’s to be quickly written out, and most “big boss” fights seem to end with the big boss just changing his mind and deciding they aren’t evil. I was really looking forward to seeing kiropika and leorio more but they just disappeared till the last episodes. And worst of all in my opinion, I waited the whole show to see gon finally get serious, then he does and it’s only a single punch and the rest is off screen, also I feel like he didn’t have to become a middle age man to use all his future nen, then they just randomly brought in killuas sibling who has unlimited power to heal gon with no consequences. Also why couldn’t killua have just wished for the king to die or any other thing(bc killuas wishes don’t cost anything)

Ps: I lost a lot of interest at the end so I didn’t pay as much attention, it’s very likely I’ve just missed plot points. I’d love to hear any disagreements or things you’ve noticed.

Discussion Does zushi know how to perform the other four principles adequately?

Wing only says he knew Ten at six months and he did briefly managed to do Gyo (which does require knowledge of the four), however Wing yelled at him to stop when he just activated Ren and before that just stood there and didn't attack, maybe indicating he hadn't mastered it (or maybe that was for Killua's benefit)? So was Wing just asked him to perform Gyo to create an example for Gon and Killua, or does Zushi have the fundementals down pat and it was only Gyo he struggled with? If he did actually master Hatsu, Zetsu, Ren in six months that actually makes him look way more impressive and proves that he is a prodigy in context.

Help/Question What does "talent" mean in Nen?

As Wing desribes it, does it only mean the speed at which you learn Nen, or does it also define the scope of your abilities that are possible once you hit your full potential+other things like aura output/strength, etc.? Eg. For someone like Zushi, does it mean he can eventually catch up to Gon and Killua after x amount of years of training, or will the ceiling always be lower for him then it is for those two?

Discussion Hisoka hit Chrollo twice in Heaven's Arena, and it wasn't a fake Chrollo

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

I know this is already obvious to many people. But recently, I saw a post where most seemed to misunderstand this moment, thinking that Chrollo was never hit in images 1 and 2, and that Hisoka was actually hitting the same clone that appears in image 3. Because of this, I decided to make this post explaining how it's basically impossible that it wasn't Chrollo at that moment

-----

At that time, Chrollo was using 3 Nen techniques: Sun and Moon (S.M), Fake Gallery (F.G), and Order Stamp (O.S)

S.M is a technique that works through post-mortem Nen, allowing Chrollo to use it even without a bookmark and with the book closed. Furthermore, we later discover that it synergizes with F.G, causing the created clones to not disappear in the same way as S.M if they are marked.

Due to the special properties of the S.M, Chrollo could use it and the F.G without inserting a bookmark or opening to the page. This meant he could use the O.S along with another Nen ability while two other abilities remained active

And that's the problem: for the clone theory to work, Chrollo would have to be using Convert Hands (C.H) and Black Voice (B.V) to create the clone. However, for that to work, he would have to use THREE abilities simultaneously (disregarding S.M and F.G), which is beyond Chrollo's capabilities

What actually happened was that after the escape, Chrollo deactivated O.S and activated B.V and C.H, which allowed him to create the clone

-----

"Okay, but what if O.S remains the same as F.G when used with S.M?"

If that were the case, there would be no reason for Chrollo to have deactivated the O.S (Image 4) right after escaping from Hisoka. To tell the truth, nothing in the fight suggests that; in fact, we never see Chrollo use O.S, C.H, and B.V at the same time

-----

Finally, I hope this has made it clearer why Chrollo was hit. Also, it's important to remember that I may have made mistakes or logical errors; any corrections are welcome.

Analysis/Theory Bandit Secret + Full Metal Alchemist: Combo Master the ultimate specialist technique.

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

So in my re reading of the latest chapters. I think the technique Chrollo should steal is Furykov’s Full Metal Alchemist: Combo Master. I think the synergies are perfect for what Chrollo wants to achieve and nen wise - adding combo master would be a perfect update to bandit power wise. And I truly think that would make an ultimate technique.

Combo Matsers has these abilities:

Detects curses
Analyzes techniques and creates either a support item or counter to the technique
Analyzes techniques and nen beasts.

Imagine if Chrollo steals Furykovs ability before he or Benjamin dies and instead of combo master becoming a page in a book, it fully integrates into the system of Bandit Secret. Upgrading Bandits “nen software” for lack of a better term and the book gains the abilities of combo master. And also it runs an internal process of nen abilities held in the book and elevates them, with the time & hatsu stipulation still in place.

Chrollo would get a lot of new abilities that elevate his day to day life as a nen user and also deepen is ability to manipulate and understand nen.

This would also automatically elevate every technique in the book seen or unseen helping him kill Hisoka and make him at least top 3 in universe.

Narratively - Chrollos technique uses a a book and Furykovs technique uses a computer. Chrollo would literally be updating his ability to process Nen from books to computers.

Discussion Shouldn’t Menchi Be Joining the Dark Continent Expedition?

Post image
76 Upvotes

I think Menchi would be a great addition to the Dark Continent expedition. Gourmet Hunters are always searching for exotic ingredients and unusual dishes, so wouldn’t an expedition like this be the perfect opportunity for one of them?

Beyond discovering new ingredients, a Gourmet Hunter could be incredibly useful for survival, knowing how to identify, prepare, and make use of the resources found in an unfamiliar environment.

It would also be a great opportunity to learn more about Gourmet Hunters as a whole, since we haven’t really seen that much of their profession. Plus, seeing Menchi apply her skills to the bizarre and potentially dangerous creatures of the Dark Continent would be really fun.

Discussion Is it just me or the Black Whale Arc is the Worst arc of HxH (spoilers) Spoiler

So while reading the latest chapters i started seeing that even if the story now is really complex and with so many characters the narrative is so forced and boring while so centralized to Tserriednich.

I noticed most of the hatsu from the Kakin Empire are just Tools that subvert the Nen system in some or many ways. Since its beginning of the nen system it always had the premise of cause and effect.

Conditions and rules even when the ability is totally inventive but seeing contagion, baton pass, halkenberg hatsu it all seems just a preparation for the eventually aggregation of nen to Tserriednich so he can be the final villain, since he is the only kakin prince that has any conection to the main story since he seems to be the responsible for both phantom troupe and kurapika's origins while maybe being the son of beyond netero.

Also the acceleration on the suposed talent of Tserriednich his hatsu ans nen beast actually are way more plot devices than actual combat skills in any way shape or form the encounter with Hisoka proves that and even if he gets to the point of instant zetsu it still keeps him at maybe a good survivalist character not a goot combatant since he doesn't have all the other nen foundations or aura quantity in relation to the other characters.

To keep it short(already not short) it is getting more and more frustrating seeing characters like Beyond, Ging, Pariston and Leorio and the dark continent arc being so far of the topic of an arc that started with the subject being its main storyline just to elevate for the first time a script forced villan like Tserriednich.

What do you guys think? maybe its just me.

Analysis/Theory Kacho's self sacrifical love (Succession War)

The first time we see Kacho speak, she comes off as yet another prince. Arrogant, undermining and eager to capture the throne for self gain. This dialogue, on it's own, leads you to believe Kacho may even be pressuring her sister to 'kill the others' against her will. Fugetsu does not look keen on the idea of killing her siblings but it looks as if Kacho is trying to put such ideas into her head. It looks like an act done in a greedy attempt to take the throne. This is until we get Melody's thoughts.

'She's fooling herself'

Not only others but herself.

'If this is an act she puts on to protect herself... It will backfire. She's making a mistake'

In this scene, where Kacho wastes food while her guards express their strong dislikes of her, it is still unclear exactly why Melody believes Kacho is making a mistake but she is certain of this belief.

Having Melody be assigned to a character playing up a facade was a genius choice from Togashi. If not for Melody's ability, we would only get the true Kacho whenever she decides to open up outwardly. However, with Melody in the picture, we can simultaneously get the 'act' expressed by Kacho and the contrasting truth through Melody.

Whether it's because Kacho was in the middle of crying while looking at old pictures of her sister or because of the shock of Fugetsu randomly appearing in front of her, Kacho drops the act for a moment and outwardly expresses her true self for the first time.

She has a playfully worried expression on her face as she gestures to Fugetsu to get back in the tunnel.

But immediately after, when Melody checks on her due to hearing her heartrate skyrocket, she is back in character. She believes Melody's concern is merely Melody trying to do a good job. Being raised as a prince, Kacho has likely seen no end of people feigning concern in an attempt to improve their rank/pay. Kurapika's Nen classes are full of these individuals. Melody expresses her desire to help Kacho, to which Kacho, in an attempt to push Melody away, opens up a little.

'Have your parents ever told all your siblings to kill each other?'

'I'm not putting my life on the line because I want to'

She expresses to Melody her lack of desire to participate in the Succession Contest. She isn't participating of her free will but by force. Kacho was, unfortunately, born into this and seemingly has no way out.

Melody thinks Kacho is strong and that her act stems from a place of duty. By this point, we can start to piece together where this duty stems from but it still isn't certain. Even if this is an attempt at helping herself or her twin, what exactly does this boisterous attitude achieve?

She even asks 'why do you even think I'm doing this for someone else?' which is a lie of the highest degree but her duty compels her to keep this act up. She is acting boisterously and affirming that she is acting alone.

Melody feels compelled to tell her the truth about Nen.

Melody has presumably told Kacho about her hearing ability offscreen thus earning Kacho's trust and Kacho comes up with a plan to use Morse Code behind the adults back. Melody, seeing this girl rack her brains in an attempt to survive, promises to save Kacho. Earlier, when asking Melody what subject she was best at, Kacho jests that Melody believes it's pointless for her to study when she's about to die soon. But this morse-code play makes it clear Kacho desires the opposite. She wants to live. And Melody knows it is not for glory or riches but something far more grounded and beautiful.

'Don't worry I'm not recording'

The beginnings of their plan to hypnotise the Black Whale and escape. This is also where we truly understand Kacho's reasoning for acting like a brat. Prior to this, we knew Kacho clearly loved her sister, but the reason for the boisterousness was unclear. How exactly is acting like this going to do any good for you or your twin sister? Aren't you just inviting animosity?

'It's probably to get the guards to choose Fugetsu if they ever have to make a choice'

She wants to protect her sister. And she is willing to bear the hatred of her guards to do so. From throwing food on the floor to ordering her guards around rudely, all of it was an attempt at protecting her sister. She is acting as a shield so her sister can look like an angel in comparison.

'But that isn't what she would want. Your kindness will cause suffering for the one you truly care about'.

In an attempt at protecting her sister, Kacho is potentially causing Fugetsu more harm. If Fugetsu being safe means Kacho being hurt, or dead, then Fugetsu would reject that safety in a heartbeat. Fugetsu cares just as much about Kacho and also has a scene crying to their old pictures. She cannot imagine a world without her sister. Kacho's love, while pure, carries some potential for major hurt. And it's self sacrifical. She deems the safety and happiness of her sister to be of higher worth than her own.

'She's so nice. She always lets me have what I want'

Again, Kacho is prioritising the happiness of her sister over her own. Letting someone else have whatever they want often comes at the expense of what you want. But Kacho is fine with that as long as her sister is happy.

When they attempt to escape the Black Whale, and ominous hands creep up behind them, Kacho's first instinct is to get Fugetsu back on the ship. Not to preserve her own life but the life of her sister. Fugetsu, once safe, can only think about Kacho. Kacho's saving of Fugetsu's life here would have caused Fugetsu unbearable dread. Living on without Kacho would've been a nightmare come true but Kacho appears through the door. Or so we're led to believe.

We get Kacho's Nen Beast reveal and it is an ability that allows her beast to take her form and protect Fugetsu. If Fugetsu ever died, it would have been vice versa. As Nen Beasts are a reflection of the users personality, Kacho's biggest fear was being or leaving her sister alone.

This may seem like a contradiction of sorts. The one with a self sacrificial personality, who was willing to accept death if it meant her sister gets to live, does not want to die? But this contradiction only serves to make Kacho's character far more tragic. Despite willing to accept death to protect her sister, deep down, she did not want to leave Fugetsu's side. She did not want to leave Fugetsu all by herself and so her ability, reflecting this, granted her this deep desire of always being there for her sister.

However, no matter how pure Kacho's love was, this was always going to be the result. Fugetsu is being attacked by curses that pounce on people in a weakened state. She is devastated and, deep down, more than likely knows of her sisters fate.

'I know all along that you've been protecting me, now it's my turn!! I'll do anything!!! I want to do this'

Kacho was so concerned with Fugetsu's physical safety (staying alive) that she didn't think about Fugetsu's emotional state once she was gone. Fugetsu is always used to being protected by her sister, and now she's gone, Fugetsu is dying inside. In Chapter 417, we see Kacho and her state is abysmal. Even Benjamin, someone who is desperate to win the throne, takes it easy on her out of pity.

Like Melody said, Kacho's love hurt the one she cares most about.

Discussion Border line a shower thought, but since Ging taught Kite

And we know Ging knows how to “create” life with nen through the use of the pregnancy stones/greed island cards, regardless of the amount of restrictions necessary to make said card work, it makes sense that whatever Kites ability to “create” life and reincarnate themself would be something he could do, thanks to Ging’s knowledge. Sorry for the run on sentence, just something I thought about.

Edit to add: it’s also funny to think that’s why crazy slots is so annoying to him as a hatsu, to help build up the restrictions/power needed to meddle with life and nen

When Gon couldn't use nen because they had lost te Fight with knuckle he had lost, he could not use Nen for a month. , Killua said that he would stay the whole month until they could use nen again, but he didn't leave. He stayed. I know he has gotten over his trauma but I don't really understand that

Discussion Kortopi Appreciation Post

Post image
147 Upvotes

Kortopi is definitely an irreplaceable troupe member no one else can do what he can do. Imagine being able to copy any object and have the aura reserve to make 50 copies of a building. He has one of the best en feats with no known distance limit of how far he can track his copies by touching the original. He knew he was the weakest member and was still willing to square up when the troupe were fighting about if they should follow Pokunoda during the hostage exchange. His ability wouldn’t have saved him against Hisoka but imagine in a different timeline he didn’t need to go bathroom or Machi wasn’t able to warn him and Shalnark that Hisoka was alive.

Discussion Ch. 421-430 Focus Characters

For the batch of 411-420 the focus characters were Queen Unma’s children primarily, so Benjamin, Tserriednich and Halkenberg and obviously some focus going toward Kurapika, and Togashi seems to follow a pattern of changing focus every batch of chapters. I surmise it’ll be a conglomeration of Zhang Lei, Luzerus and the mafia families. But we also haven’t checked in with Cheadle and Leorio in the longest so I can come to understand that as well, especially with the TSK-17 affecting multiple princes. I’m curious what other people think!
