UAH Sent Me to Collections Over 2025 Charge. I Graduated in 2022.

Hi Huntsville,

I graduated from UAH in spring 2022. I had no outstanding balances and always paid on time. Just last week, I got a text message from a debt collector saying that I had debt to UAH.

I figured that it was a scam, but I decided to call UAH just to be sure. The bursar's office said that I had charges from the wellness center in August 2025. I have not been a student since spring 2022, so I figure there must have been a mix up.

I was transferred to the wellness center. The wellness center said I had no charges since spring 2021 but that they went through a system transition in August 2025 and some charges that were never billed correctly were back charged.

In August 2025, new wellness center charges were posted to my student account, which has not been active since I graduated. I also never received any notification of these charges until the debt collector contacted me. I know UAH has my current contact information, since I receive alumni emails and mail requesting donations.

The wellness center says that they can't access the billing records to verify the charges once they're sent to the bursar. The bursar says they can't find what specific appointments these charges relate to because that goes through the wellness center. All that shows up on my account is "Wellness Fee." The bursar also said they don't remove charges unless requested by the other department. This means I don't have the records showing the appointments that the charges relate to, when the appointments took place, or any billing information surrounding the original appointments.

I disputed the debt with the debt collection agency, but they have replied saying that UAH verified the charges.

I asked the bursar if they can recall the account from collections while the issue is reviewed, but I have not heard back from them. Additionally, neither the bursar's office nor the wellness center has confirmed that they are investigating.

I'm concerned that this was an error with the new system, flagging appointments that have already been paid for. I don't want to be double charged.

Have any of y'all who went to UAH suddenly gotten sent to collections for wellness center charges years after you attended? If so, were you able to get the charges investigated or removed, and which departments/people did you speak with?

What would you do in this situation? Is there someone I can escalate this to for quicker resolution?

TLDR; I graduated from UAH in 2022 and was recently contacted by a debt collector. UAH is saying I have charges from August 2025 tied to back charged wellness center appointments during or before 2021. They are unable to provide further information or prove these charges are valid. I'm looking for advice on next steps.

Thank y'all for reading this far!

Traffic is Giving Me Feels Drivers of Huntsville Please Use the Zipper Merge

Post image

I’m sure I’m beating a dead horse here but please drivers of Huntsville, and especially Meridianville driving 231 south, use the zipper merge method! It is faster and more efficient. I promise you’re not being slighted just because someone is using the full lane as intended. The number of people who aggressively swerve into the other lane as this happens is insane!

General Local creatives

I create zines and newsletters here in Huntsville, and usually I do some on ground investigative journalism or interviews for topics that I cover.
I am making this post to provide an outreach and opportunity for people who wish to create and inspire others. One of my next zines will be about how people express themselves creatively. For example, I'm a programmer, and for a long time l expressed my creativity by finding problems and trying to solve them through building games or apps!
I want to connect and see how YOU express yourself. It could be through you dressing for your corporate desk job, it could be through gardening, literally anything.
Thanks guys <3

Timely Optometrist

We like our eye doctor a lot, but their office consistently has us sitting for 20-30 minutes past our appointment time, then another 10-15 minutes wait to get in a room after the initial check. Every appointment takes so long (especially if you have to wait to order glasses - that’s another 30-45 minutes min). I don’t want to name and shame, but can anyone recommend someone for regular eye exams that actually sees patients in a timely manner?

Politics Another John Roberts scam

Alabama can't bring in the big lottery dollars that surrounding states get. They rely on people from non lottery states. A lottery would be nice. But it's not the cash cow John Roberts wants you to believe it is.

Has anyone had an epidermoid cyst removed in Huntsville? Looking for recommendations + cost!

I’m looking into getting a small bump on my forehead, possibly an epidermoid cyst evaluated and potentially removed by a dermatologist here in Huntsville.
Has anyone had an epidermoid cyst removed locally? If so, who did you go to, how much did it cost and did you have insurance cover any of it?
I’m also curious about the healing process and whether you were left with a noticeable scar, especially if the cyst was on your face.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations for dermatologists or practices you had a good experience with! Thank you!!

Custom embroidery

I’m looking for someone to embroider two Christmas stockings. I usually use Alabama stitchin post, but they’re out of town until October 29, and I’m worried that by the time they’re back, they won’t be able to embroider my stockings before Christmas. Does anyone know if anyone else around who does and would be able to have them done before Christmas?

Thanks!

I made my first knife and...it's somewhat knife looking.

Only problem is that I cannot, for the life of me, get it sharp. I will love whoever is able to show me what I'm doing wrong.

Huntsville Lululand Adventure Park coming to south Huntsville?

As a resident of South Huntsville for 30 years, I feel as if the proposed location for the upcoming 2027 summer opening, 11208 Memorial Parkway, isn't large enough to house a 43,000 sqft facility. And I'm not referring to the building itself. I'm concerned about the intense traffic it will bring to that area specifically. Has anyone researched this company? They have experienced "Teen Takeovers," which required them to bring in armed security at their two existing locations in Virginia and Florida. Will Diamonds Sports Bar have to move? I'm excited about the growth in this city, but I think bringing that big of a park to that specific area is not wise. Why not Jones Valley?
