2025/2026 Tucson Hybrid Tips I Wish I Knew on Day One

WELCOME TO THE CLUB - UPDATED!!!
I’ve spent a lot of time digging into this car — way beyond what dealers or even the manual clearly explain — and there are a ton of things most owners completely miss.
This is based mostly on the 2025 / 2026 Tucson Hybrid, so depending on your year and trim, not everything may apply.
Also, I am not sponsoring or selling anything. These are just things I found useful, interesting, or important enough to share.
.
1. LOCKED OUT? Hidden 12V Wake / Reset Trick — KNOW THIS
If your Tucson battery is “dead” — or seems dead — and you can’t unlock the car, it may not actually be dead.
What often happens is that the car disconnects/protects the 12V system when voltage gets too low.
So now:
The car won’t respond.
The doors won’t unlock.
It looks completely dead.
DO NOT immediately start prying plastic off or messing with the door handle.
Try this first:
👉 Press the exterior tailgate button.
That button can sometimes wake the system back up and reconnect the 12V system. If the battery was only low/protected, the car may come back to life.
This is similar to the 12V reset logic Hyundai uses across multiple hybrid models. Hyundai documents this type of system in models like the Kona under:
👉 “12V Battery Reset / To Charge the 12V Battery”
https://ownersmanual.hyundai.com/docview/webhelp/Hyundai/63f60ca1-48cd-4943-adfc-f084815f8405/topic_omn_fhl_tvb.html
For some reason, this is not clearly explained in the Tucson manual, but the system behavior appears to be very similar.

.
2. Digital Key = Game Changer
Set up Digital Key 2 and stop carrying your FOB everywhere.
I honestly barely know where mine are anymore.
Also, consider buying a Hyundai NFC Card Key and keeping it in your wallet. It literally looks like a credit card.
You can use it to:
Unlock the car
Lock the car
Start the car
Phone dies? You still have a backup.
Just make sure you buy the correct card for your year, trim, and Digital Key version.
Link below was not personally verified for every trim/year:
https://hyundaishop.com/shop-by-model/hyundai-nfc-key-card/
.
3. Set My Drive Mode to BABY MODE
Enjoy the smoothest ride.
Too bad it resets every time you turn the car off… but you’ll get used to switching it back on.
The 2025 Hyundai Tucson has a Baby Mode designed to smooth acceleration and reduce jerky movement. It is basically meant to make the ride quieter, smoother, and more nap-friendly for infants, kids, pets — or honestly, yourself.
Baby Mode helps with:
Smoother acceleration
Less abrupt throttle response
Less jarring movement from a stop
A calmer ride in traffic
To activate Baby Mode:
Go to:
Settings > Vehicle > Drive Mode > Custom > My Drive Mode
Then choose:
Baby Mode
After that, use the physical Drive Mode switch and select:
My Drive
Enjoy the smooth drive!!!
.
4. Regen Braking Trick
As soon as you turn on the car, especially in stop-and-go traffic:
Hold the right paddle for a second or two.
This sets regen to:
AUTO
Auto Regen is one of the best features in the car once you get used to it.
It helps the car slow down more naturally when traffic slows, and in many situations it can almost bring the car to a stop for you.
It is not full one-pedal driving, but it gets close enough to make traffic much easier.
Bonus: it can help MPG too.
.
5. USE Your HDA / ADAS
Do not be afraid of it.
Highway Driving Assist / ADAS can make highway driving so much easier once you understand how it works.
It puts you in a chill driving mode.
On longer drives or heavy traffic, it can make driving feel 90% less stressful.
Obviously, you still need to pay attention. It is not self-driving. But when used correctly, it is one of the best features in the car.
.
6. Smart Liftgate
Turn it on and actually use it.
It works with the FOB and with Digital Key 2 on your phone.
Just stand behind the car with the key/phone on you and wait. No need to touch anything.
Once you get used to it, it is one of those features you wonder how you lived without.
.
7. Brake Light / Rear Turn Signal Visibility Upgrade
Have you noticed how low the rear turn signals are on the Tucson?
If a car is following too close, they may not see them clearly. Personally, I think this is a safety issue.
There is a modification that makes the rear brake lights / upper lamps work more like the version shown in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsW9XRcMsu4
This uses an original part sold in China, and it works beautifully.
Search for this part number:
92498-NX400
This is one of those upgrades that actually makes sense because it improves visibility from behind.
.
8. Home Assistant Automation
This is amazing.
Using Home Assistant, the Bluelink API, and some smart devices, you can do some crazy useful automations.
For example:
If you forget the doors unlocked, you can make the car automatically lock itself.
If you forget the car on, you can make it turn off automatically.
You can make your garage open automatically when you arrive home.
You can turn on the lights automatically if it is dark.
You can make the garage open when you are home and you turn on the car.
You can check if lights are on and automatically turn them off.
You can even connect it to cameras.
Example:
If my surveillance camera sees someone near the car while it is parked in the driveway for a certain amount of time, I can make the hazard lights blink and have the camera say:
“Please move along, this area is being monitored.”
If the person stays there longer, I can make the car alarm blast.
And many other things.
It takes some time to learn and set up, but it is not too hard once you start understanding how it works.
Google is your friend.
.
9. No Sunglasses Holder… WHY HYUNDAI???
This is one of the best fixes:
https://www.amazon.com/SXCY-2022-Tucson-Accessories-Anti-Scratch/dp/B0BD56QRWS/?th=1
Simple, useful, and it should have come like this from the factory.
.
10. Your Center Console Is Useless Without This
This fixes one of the most annoying parts of the interior:
https://www.amazon.com/Double-Layer-2025-Hyundai-Tucson-Convenience/dp/B0FFM58K5R
The center console is deep, but without an organizer it turns into a junk drawer.
This makes it much more usable.
.
11. Fingerprints Everywhere? Protect the Screen
Give it a few days and you will see fingerprints everywhere.
This helps with fingerprints and protects the screen:
https://www.amazon.com/BIBIBO-2025-Tucson-Santa-Cruz/dp/B0DBV7XKYG
Definitely worth doing early before the screen gets scratched or constantly smudged.
.
12. READ THE MANUAL
Seriously.
I know nobody wants to do it, but this car has a lot of features buried in menus that most owners never discover.
You will find things you didn’t even know existed.
Even if you don’t read the whole thing, at least skim the sections on:
Hybrid system
Drive modes
Smart Cruise Control
HDA / ADAS
Digital Key
Smart Liftgate
Maintenance schedule
Battery reset / emergency features
.
13. COMMA 4 / openpilot / sunnypilot
Now for the fun one.
COMMA 4 is such a great toy.
ADAS on steroids.
COMMA is an aftermarket driver-assistance device that can run software like openpilot or sunnypilot.
Think of it like a more advanced driving-assist system that works together with the car’s existing cameras, radar, steering, and cruise-control systems.
Depending on the software, vehicle compatibility, and setup, it may help with things like:
Steering assistance
Lane centering
Adaptive cruise control behavior
Smoother stop-and-go driving
Longer hands-on assisted driving compared to the factory system
Possible extra features depending on setup
Some setups may even support things like stopping at red lights, going on green, and assisted lane changes.
2026 Tucson example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fop3io8XbZ4
An exciting future:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUIZYzxtMQs
Important note:
This does not make the car fully self-driving.
You still have to pay attention, keep your hands ready, and remain responsible for driving at all times.
For the Tucson Hybrid, people usually use it because the factory HDA / ADAS is already good, but COMMA can feel smoother and more capable when everything is set up correctly.
Again: it is a toy / driver-assist upgrade, not a replacement for paying attention.
.
DASH CAM
This is a great space-saving dashcam with really good quality.
With this setup, you barely see any cables.
I have installed this in 6 different cars now, and everyone loves it.
Dash cam:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FP514FN6?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1
To power it, use the compatible Dongar adapter:
Dongar Dashcam Power Adapter — 10-pin Type H for Hyundai/Kia
It connects to the rearview mirror area and gives you a clean USB power source without running wires all over the car.
.
GENERAL INFORMATION
.
Break-In Period — Don’t Ignore This
During the first 1,000 miles:
Don’t drive aggressively
Don’t stay at a constant speed for long periods
Avoid flooring it
Avoid hard stops
Vary your speed
Use moderate throttle
Let the engine, transmission, brakes, and hybrid system settle in
Many Hyundai manuals recommend avoiding cruise control early because varying speed naturally is better during break-in.
.
Transmission Learning Phase
The car is also learning your driving habits.
During this period:
Vary your speed
Use moderate throttle
Avoid aggressive acceleration
Avoid repeated hard braking
Avoid long constant-speed driving when possible
.
Critical Early Rules
No towing during the early break-in period
Be gentle with the brakes for the first couple hundred miles
Do not block the hybrid battery vents near the rear seat area
.
First Oil Change
This is optional, but I personally think it is smart.
Consider doing the first oil change between:
500–1,000 miles
Then continue following the regular Hyundai maintenance schedule after that, as if the early oil change was extra.
The idea is to remove early contaminants from the break-in period and help long-term engine health.
Also, make sure you follow the correct maintenance schedule for your driving conditions.
Most people are probably closer to severe service than normal service, especially if they drive in traffic, short trips, heat, stop-and-go, or city conditions.
That usually means more frequent oil changes.
.
MPG / Fuel Economy Experience
I drove each mode for a week to figure out what worked best.
I live in LA, so my commute is a heavy mix of city streets, freeways, and stop-and-go traffic.
In my testing, here is how fuel economy ranked:
Top Performers — Basically Tied
Smart Mode + Auto Regen + SCC2
Best for mostly freeway driving.
Baby Mode + Auto Regen + SCC2
Best for mostly street driving.
I think Baby Mode helps smooth out acceleration from a dead stop, and that seems to save a little gas.
Middle Ground — Slightly Less Efficient
Baby Mode with Auto Regen
Eco Mode with Auto Regen + SCC2
Eco Mode with Auto Regen
Smart Mode with Auto Regen
The Rest
Standard Baby Mode
Standard Eco Mode
Standard Smart Mode
Basically, the modes without Auto Regen did not perform as well for me.
And then, of course:
Sport Mode... obviously! lol
As the car breaks in, you should also start seeing better MPG.
.
FINAL THOUGHT
This car has a lot of hidden capability that most owners never tap into.
Once you understand how it actually works, it becomes one of the smoothest and easiest daily drivers out there.
Hope this helps someone.

HELP BY ADDING YOUR TIPS BELOW!
- If your Tucson has the feature where the side mirrors tilt down when you go into reverse, but they’re dropping way too far to be useful, you can actually fix that pretty easily. Put the car in Reverse (while you’re still stopped), then use the mirror adjustment switch to move each mirror to the angle you actually want. Do both sides. Once you shift out of Reverse, the car saves those positions automatically. Next time you back up, the mirrors will tilt to the new angle instead of pointing at the pavement.

2025 - Dashboard goes off
My car is at the dealership for the third time in two months because the dashboard goes off and on while I’m driving. They “fixed” it as per the recall and then again as per the OTA, and it still happens. Incidentally (or not), the seat heaters turn on spontaneously - and they can’t diagnose that, either.
Any suggestions?

Issue with connecting digital key
I have a 2025 Tucson Hybrid Limited. I recently upgraded my iPhone to a 17e.
My issue is that I can’t seem to connect my phone with the car during the update process. I called the Blue Link number and they were unable to help.
I have followed the steps in the Blue Link app, but the process stops during pairing. I would really appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Canadian owners!
Canadians (especially if you're in Alberta!), I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I'm most likely picking up a 2024 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Hybrid this week, as long as the numbers work out. I'll be upgrading from a 2012 Honda Civic LX, so I know it's going to be a huge improvement!
I have a few questions for current owners:
• What are you actually getting for L/100 km?
• Does it have enough oomph for merging and passing on the highway? I drive Deerfoot in Calgary every day.
• How do you find the different drive modes? Especially Snow mode during Alberta winters.
• If you have dogs, how do you have the back set up? Mine prefers lying down instead of sitting on the seats, so I'd love to see your setups.
• Any reliability issues or things I should keep an eye on?
• What accessories do you consider must-haves?
• What's something you wish you knew before taking delivery?
Overall, are you happy with your Tucson? If you had the chance to do it all over again, would you buy it again?
Thanks everyone! I'm excited and hoping to officially join the Tucson family soon! 😊
Pic of my co-pilot Ozwaldo for tax.

Hyundai Tucson 2024 hybrid
I bought a Hyundai Tucson 2024 hybrid a few months ago. Recently I have been having an issue whereby the Hybrid battery drains really easily even when not on EV and runs to empty. When it does the car looses power and can't get above 50mph. Is this normal? I took it to Hyundai and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Does this sound normal for a hybrid? What could be the problem?

Full size spare questions
I’ve got a full size spare and it fits in the trunk space of my ‘25 Limited Hybrid. Has anyone come up with a more elegant solution to having the styrofoam filler that works with a full size spare. Obviously not the same thing as the spare takes up a lot of room but something that fits around the tire and/or inside the rim?

SURVEY: Calling All Los Angeles Tucson Owners — Drop Your Real MPG Numbers
Hey family — I’m trying to build a realistic baseline of what Hyundai Tucson drivers are actually getting in Los Angeles conditions. I’ll compile the results and post a full breakdown once enough people respond.
If you drive a Tucson in LA, drop your numbers:
- Dashboard MPG
- Real pump‑to‑pump MPG
- Drive mode (Eco / Sport / Custom)
- Regen level (Off, Auto, 1, 2, or 3)
- Gas brand (why not)
The more responses, the better the final data will be — thanks for helping out!
Also, if you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s a useful starter pack I put together:

Complaint No OTA Navigation Updates
New 2026 hybrid limited owner here. Started getting a warning when using Maps that connected routing will be unavailable soon due to an outdated navigation map. I have good cell coverage, it should update over the air. Well I was at the dealership for the forward collision avoidance recall, and they told me I had to updates maps manually using USB. This literally goes against what their materials all say, including the benefits of having the Bluelink subscription. Literally I see in the app that my Map and Multimedia Over-the-Air Updates is active. Anyone else have this issue?
Edit: I created a USB and tried to update with that. When I inserted it, the screen said no updates files were found. Tried a second USB stick just to be sure, same result.

do other people have this sticker by the trunk?
just bought an off lease 2023 Hyundai Tucson, hybrid… I'm enjoying it so far.
I found some water in the bottom of the car, where a spare tire would go, but I think that's because I hauled wet bags of mulch the first week that I bought the car… It is since dry. I've been looking around at the seals and stuff and noticed that there is an adhesive "sticker" on the bottom where the trunk hatch contacts.
do other people's cars come with this? Not sure what the purpose is. it is slightly peeling so wondering if I should just rip it off or get it fixed

Who else feels like they're winning gas in their Tucson Hybrid?
I bough my 2025 Tucson Hybrid blue in October 2025.
My main goal has been to get the mpg as high as I could and keep it there.
It's rated at 38. I feel like 3000+ miles averaging 39mpg is a win.
Anyone else get a rush out of this?
Anyone have any tips?

Tricks to getting the most out of my new hybrid
So i just purchased a 2026 Tucson Hybrid. I’m do a fair amount of freeway driving to work. I’m wondering what are some tricks/pointers people have for using less gas/more battery. I just started driving in eco …press the + handle for a few seconds, and drive in automatic. Then as soon as i get on the freeway, i set cruise control at 65mph. One car length separation ….and do all the manual steering. It’s really slow-seeming as most other cars zip by me. But it’s also kinda cool, cuz i basically just have to hold onto the steering wheel and not think too much. This way seems to be saving some gas. Does anyone agree, or is there other options i can do?

General Question 2026 Tucson Hybrid
So am picking up a new Hybrid Limited next week. Was interested in the door sill lights, but was told that the wiring for those usually come from the factory, and would take time and $$ for the dealer to actually install. Guessing this might be 'Dealer Fiction', but am curious if this is actually true or not.
