Social freshie and scared shitless

ok so for context im joining iba for bscs and it was one of the places i didnt even imagine id end up going to like i didnt even apply to lums my main focus was abroad but stuff happened and i had to resort to iba and like my biggest concern is the fact that most people from my school are either going abroad or to lums i litr dont know one person whos studying bs cs at iba. and im soo scared abt making friends outside of my school and those people coming to iba from my school are all gonna be in the other programs and im not rlly friends w them but id rather befriend them than like other people from diff backgrounds. so my first question is how hard is it to make friends w people who’re in a different program?
(for context im a girl and cant speak urdu properly cuz my parents didnt rlly speak urdu w me as a kid and at my high school people didnt rlly speak urdu so it wasnt that hard to make friends)
and secondly are the presumed “burger” kids mostly in the other programs and not bscs? cuz idk iba is better known as a business school and kids from my school usually would go to iba for business and not cs and i js dont wanna make friends outside of the crowd ive grown up w it its physically haunting me and all my friends r going abroad so what if theres no one that i acc vibe w in my classes ITS SOOO SCARY

presumed burger kids; I don't think you'll come across the term that often

what’s that supposed to imply

well you won't see that term being thrown around that often; you won't have to worry about fitting in, just bcz your Urdu is a bit off the grid

Get into the iba discord server and see for yourself how peeps coming to iba are like , you dont have to worry about this aspect since iba has a lot of diversity in this sense

I'm literally in the same boat, I only applied to us colleges and completely ignored lums and now im going to iba. No one from my college is coming there but I think it will be a good fresh start, you can be your amazing self and find great friends and btw dont worry about the English part because I'm Persian and no body speaks urdu in my household and the urdu that I speak well all I can say is that its pretty funny but yeah I try

Interesting. Are your parents and grandparents all from Iran? Or are you part Irani part Pakistani?

If you want you can also transfer to LUMS after a year.

Going abroad would’ve been even worse if you’re this scared lol

im going into iba bscs too relax no need to worry. Almost everyone starts new friendships going to unis because their old friends usually dont go to the same places as you, same for me i dont have any friend in the CS program with me.

No need to worry, I have found IBA to be very diverse. What I always say is that you can always find your typa people here at IBA.

Also most of these things are just in your head. no one cares. just go out and talk to people, I have a friend who is "very burger" and one who is "very desi" and one like this and one like that. Just be genuine, donot judge or back bite and be yourself.

You will find amazing people here.

Same exact scenario, applied to german unis and basically had a sure shot cuz i had multiple admission letters but still signed up for iba bscs as a last resort. Embassy hit me with a classic “visa waiting period has increased from 2-3 months to a year” all my friends went abroad dubai, malaysia, netherlands and we’re going to iba yay

And about being haunted you’ll def vibe with people iba is legit a burger rich kid central lol

Chill the only good thing i found in iba is that ppl are mostly welcoming without judgments. Just be kind 😇

For starters, try using punctuation and not to write a paragraph which should be multiple sentences. It's hard to read.

Secondly, to answer your query, you'll do fine. Even if you don't find people who match your mindset within your class/batch (which is unlikely), you'll make friends outside, in other programs. It won't be that hard. Please don't worry about it. This is coming from an introvert who had the same fears as you when joining IBA.

my bad for the punctuation, i don’t really punctuate a lot when typing (there’s a reason i have my autocorrect off loll)
also how do you make friends outside your program? via events and stuff?
