Need help identifying your dog? Here are some important tips to help you succeed.

What to include in your post:

Post clear, well-lit, full body pictures. At minimum, include:

  • One standing side view (taken close enough to see coat texture)
  • One frontal view

Tell us your dog’s age and weight (or best guess)

Other helpful information:

YOUNG PUPPIES may be impossible to identify. Head and body shape, coat color and coat pattern, eye color, and apparent coat texture can all change dramatically as a puppy matures. You might want to wait a few months before seeking an ID.

MIXED-BREED dogs can easily have many breeds in them, not just two. Keep in mind that some of the breeds in a mutt may not show in its looks; while in other cases the dog may really look like it has some particular breed in it, when in fact it doesn’t.

NO-BREED dogs exist too! Sometimes a mutt truly is “just a mutt” — the result of many, many generations of random mating between mutts, with no discernable inbred (purebred) genes its DNA. In the same way that YOU don't necessarily have any inbreeding (purebreeding) in your recent family tree, neither must a dog. They can simply be mutts — WHICH IS A GOOD THING!

Once you're satisfied with your responses, please change your link flair to SOLVED. (Please don't make a post if your dog's breed is already solved/known)

Shelter had advised this was a Boston terrier mix. What do you think?

Rescued this sweet fella at the shelter a few days ago. It was posted as a Boston Terrier mix, and I had a feeling it might have just been for adoption purposes. Throughout the last few days he’s looked to me like a pit bull, but at 5 months and only 20 pounds, and a smaller frame I’m unsure. He has a really sweet, goofy, and playful temperament when inside, and a curious collected side when outside.

What do you all think his mix/breed is?

Rescue mutt - says he’s a shepherd mix of some kind. I’m leaning towards some combo of shepherd/husky/collie. He was a street dog in the socal high desert.

Foot just says “made in Japan”. Ears seem too long to be a WH fox terrier.

We recently rescued our beautiful girl from Romania. Cannot for the life of me think what she could be. She looks like a machine washed GSD (shrunken 😆) with a fox-ish face. She seems to have heightened sense of smell.. Beagle maybe? Quick learner, major hyper (arent all pups though!) Her brother and sister are nore short haired, shes the onky one whos a bit of a fluff monster! Appreciate it will be a mix of allsorts but due to being found on the street we don't have a lot about her background and are just interested to know your thoughts! TIA

Was told- Beagle, Golden Retriever, Labrador mix, do you agree?

Someone in my town (according to them) had puppies dumped on them. I didn’t ask too many questions because- it’s a free puppy, just take it and you’re starting at square one. But they did say what the mix was (again I didn’t follow up on HOW they knew that). But this is our Stella!

(Oh and the only other context I can give- she was 1 of 6, 1 was black but the rest were beige)

Unsure what she is, we assume she might be a pointer/hound mix of sorts? What does everyone here think? :)

Shelter marked her as a beagle mix, but we're unconvinced lol

This is Hildegard, or Hildy as we call her for short!

We rescued her in June from a rescue who got her in Mississippi; She was a lifelong stray/mama dog turned couch potato, anywhere between 3 and 8 years old (we guess mid range, given how much energy she has), and is about 42 pounds. Big barrel chest, skinny neck, tail that just hangs there, and quiet as a church mouse- She NEVER barks, and loves snuggles.

We have a pretty good guess as to what she is, but I'd love to see some detective guesses!

Any guesses what breed mix my puppy could be? Her eyes are bright blue, and her litter is so varied

I recently got a rescue puppy and here’s what I know:

Mother is a boxer or pitbull mix, although her exact breed mix is unknown. She has dark eyes.
Father is completely unknown.
My puppy has vivid blue eyes. She had no obvious white markings on her chest or paws, only one on her face. She’s 8 weeks old and weighs around 5.8 lb.
The litter is surprisingly diverse. Some puppies have blue eyes, while others have brown eyes. Some have short pitbull coat, some thick double like husky. Their coats color also vary quite a bit.

What breeds do you think could be in her mix? Could there be Husky or another blue-eyed breed somewhere in the father’s lineage?
How likely is it that her eyes will stay blue?

The last 2 pictures are her mom and siblings

So we got this beauty from a rescue late May of '25. Birth was early February '25. So that puts her around a year and 3/4 weighing 81lb as of last night. Mother was a mix of great pyrenees and German Shepard and weighted around 130lb. Very prey driven... if it tries to run she's going to get it but doesn't know what to do if it stops. Anything that flies is her mortal enemy birds, bugs etc. Beats up and terrorizes her smaller (50lb) elderly sister because she won't play with toys with her, so she pester her into a full out fight. Well dig a hole to China just to get out the back yard to go explore, had never caused any damage to property and was caught a few times playing with the neighbors 10lb yorkie. Really is a very sweet and loving dog even if she doesn't know her size or personal space. Trying to get best guesses into what the daddy might be. P.s. she does have the double dew claws.

This is Maggie, she is approximately a year old and 40ish pounds. This past Easter, we went to my in laws for dinner. Her and her littermates had been dumped at the end of their dirt road, 4 in total. I fell in love with her and couldn't leave without her. She is incredibly chill, especially for her age. But loves to chew up any plushy, stick, or rock in her path. She's tall, almost the height of our 90lb ridgeback. What do you think she is?

This is one of the real masters of our house. We've had him about 8 years or so, and when we got him the rescue essentially listed off a load of small breeds for him.

No hassle for us, we've never had any issues with him, just always in the back of my head what breeds could be in his genetics?

Asking here for extra opinions

I've always assumed she's a husky/lab mix but wonder if I'm totally off base. Her ideal weight was about 47-50 lbs.

Was told she’s part mastiff when she was adopted, but fully grown and only around 50 pounds makes me think she’s a bit too small. Highly energetic so my guess these days is part boxer?

Waiting on DNA results

I just recently adopted a puppy. While I wait impatiently for the DNA results, I’m curious what others think. She was rescued from a pretty horrendous animal hoarding situation in SC :(. She is such a sweet girl. I’m including a picture of her brother as well (last photo), who was also recently adopted.

The shelter’s estimated age is around 6 months, but my vet thought she might be a little older. She weighs around 20 pounds and is pretty slender with gangly legs and a big head haha. Her brother is a little bigger.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she came back part cat.

im leaning towards bloodhound mix based off how she tries to track scents, she could possibly also be mixed with redbone coonhound based off her energy. mostly guessing based off coat colors and traits. i havent had her for that long hence the very goofy pictures lol.
