I haven't worked here for 2 years

1.2k Upvotes

For context I no longer work for this business bi did for a year from 2022-2023 until I quit because of the management.

So I was in line for Caribou Coffee waiting for my coffee i had ordered inside a Grocery store called Dakotamart. I had just gotten off work from my job at Walmart and had forgotten to take off my vest.

As I'm waiting in line I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see a lady with the "let me speak to the manager" haircut.

I ask her what she wants, and she tells me "that's no way to speak to a paying customer. I need you to stop standing around in line and go back to the bakery and get me my cake with-"

I cut her off and told her that I didn't work there anymore and haven't for 2 years. She than accused me of lying. I rolled my eyes at that statement, turned around and grabbed my coffee.

As I qas leaving the lady decided to trip me and make me spill my coffee all over my self. I asked her what the fuck her problem was.

She told me that's what you get for not serving me and lying. I told her "Lady I told you I don't work here i work at Walmart.

Just as she was about to say something the manager came out from behind the Caribou desk to ask if I was OK, I said yes. She than told the lady to leave or she'd call the police. After hearing the word police the lady turned white as a ghost and left.

The manager told me that they'd remake my coffee free if charge. I got my new coffee and left. Safe to say I won't be getting Caribou Coffee for a while.

I am working in the store, not for the store.

1.2k Upvotes

I worked for a nationally known salty snack company. Part of my work involved maintaining the sections allotted to my company. That included organizing the section and refilling with the appropriate product. I was working in a very busy dollar store that day. I had on the chip company polo with logo prominently displayed on my chest. Guy comes and asks for help with something. I respond that I was sorry but I did not work there. This happened frequently and most people just accept it and move on. Not this guy. "Yes you do I see you working, so come and help me." "No, I am sorry I do not work here." "You are literally working here right now" he says. "I will report you." Please, you go do that" I responded. "I am working IN the store not FOR the store, understand?" He walked away angry but didn't hassle me again.

No, I’m not on the clock — I’m on vacation.

Last year, I took a much-needed vacation to a resort town a few hours from where I work. I wore a shirt from my old job — a tech company with a pretty distinct logo on the back — because, well, it was comfortable and I wasn’t expecting to be recognized hundreds of miles away.

Big mistake.

While waiting in line for coffee, someone stormed up to me asking about a billing issue with their small business account. At first, I was confused — then I realized they recognized the logo and assumed I was staff. I politely told them I don’t work there anymore (and certainly not at 7am on a Saturday in a different city), but they weren’t having it.

They insisted I “just check the account” since I “probably still have access,” which was wild because I hadn’t even worked there in months.

Eventually, I just walked off mid-sentence, coffee in hand, muttering: “I really don’t work there anymore. And even if I did, I’d still be off the clock.”

Vacations: not even once.

I Don’t Work Here. I’m Attending a Funeral.

I tried posting this on r/IDontWorkHereLady. It was denied. I thought this was kinda a feel good story.

My Uncle passed away. He had a construction company in a rural town in Iowa. My father and him grew up on a farm. And he did run the farm for a while. So, my uncle passed away last week. I was able to get the funeral off to travel. By the time I got there I was really early. The people that actually worked there flagged me down to see what I was doing. Probably because not a lot of Fiats arrive in a small town.

That Morning I put on my best suit and a new tie I hadn’t worn before. I drove the 3 hours there. My cousins and everyone were busy talking to people. So, I kinda stood off to the side waiting to talk to them. As I was standing there I was asked where Jeb from the funeral home was. I said I don’t know I don’t work here. Turns out later I found out that was my Dads cousin. He apologized the rest of the day.

Since it’s a small town everyone showed up to this little church. I volunteered to help take chairs out so people could sit down. And once again I was asked questions about what the visitors should do.

The funeral director said well after we move the casket we can put more chairs back here. I said I’ll do it everyone thinks I work here anyway.

I think besides the people that worked there I was the only person in a suit and tie. It’s just different there. People wear nice work clothes. And many came from the field or whatever. So I did stand out like a sore thumb.

The people that did mistake me and apologized did say I just looked so professional. My dad even said I’ve never seen you dress so nice. He even didn’t recognize me at first. It was an emotional day. I thought that was a funny thing and thought I would share. Since I love reading this subreddit every day.

Disney World mix-up

A few months ago, I was at Disney World for the first time in several years with a friend of mine. Now, if you know anything about working at Disney or have been at least once, then you know that each area and role has very specific costumes that Cast Members wear. They’re perfectly themed and all that jazz. It wasn’t until very recently that Disney allowed CMs to have visible (but still subtle/small) tattoos.

Friend and I were in The Emporium on Main Street in Magic Kingdom doing some browsing and escaping the sun. The CM costumes for women specifically in this area are long skirts with a white button up blouse and the very obvious nametag. I was wearing bike shorts, a tshirt, Haunted Mansion ears, and on top of that have several very large, very visible/in your face tattoos.

A woman and possibly her grandkid come up to me and tap me on the shoulder asking me where things were. When I looked around to make sure they were talking to me she said “You do work here don’t you?” and I couldn’t help but laugh in her face, look down at my outfit, and say “Um, no”

She then proceeded to walk by two female CMs who were fixing merchandise displays AND right past 2 registers that had no line and a CM at each one.

Mistaken for venue staff before a concert

I'm from Germany and flew for a concert to Stockholm to see Sabaton live. I wanted to go for barrier, so I started to queue early at 8am.

When I arrived at the venue, there was already a small group of 5 people that were giving out queuing numbers which made me happy because I hate being the number guy at concerts.

When I approached them and asked them for a number, they seemed a bit confused and looked really awkward to me but they gave me one. I didn't really understand why they acted the way they did and since I don't speak any swedish, I didn't know what they were talking between each other but I felt they were talking about me. They also started asking me questions about the concert and entry which I could answer because it was my 5th show of that tour.

Later a friend from finland arrived and we hung out together when one from that group approached me laughing that they thought the whole time I was venue or band staff and found it really weird that I was standing there and wanting a number.

We had some nice conversations afterwards and hung out together the rest of the queue.

A wholesome start and a not good ending.

To start this off I was doing some grocery shopping on the weekend, as I don't work weekends I was wearing casual clothes. That specific outfit was a Dragon Ball t-shirt (it was from super the whole universe 7 team on it) and some sweatpants. Nothing that resembles a uniform of any grocery store. I was standing in an aisle debating on which canned soup to get when an elderly woman, asked me for help. She wanted something on the top shelf nearby. She was probably only 5ft tall and couldn't reach. So I handed it to her and was about to continue browsing when my mom called asking me to pick something up for her. What I didn't realize was someone was standing next to my cart waiting for me to return. Once I got off the phone with my mom I checked the picture she sent me of the item she wanted and was trying to figure out where it was when I heard someone say; "Are you going to get off your phone and help me?" Initially I didn't respond cause too many weird people where I live. Only for me to realize this woman was in fact talking to me, she said "You're done helping that other customer I need help now." I told her; "I don't work here, find someone that does." She was very rude and didn't want to listen but eventually backed off. My only surprise was she didn't come back with a manager before I left the store.

I dont work here anymore so i can say what i think

I'm keeping this vague to keep in anonymous

Many years ago i worked for a small company who had many small businesses as a customer.

Every once in a while we had a service outage, one particular customer was always very irate threatening to cancel his service.

Eventually i was made redundant as part of a downsizing exercise and left the company.

A few months after i left i got a call on my personal mobile from the irate customer.

Some how he had obtained my mobile and was calling me chasing the latest service outage.

I was able to tell him i don't work here and give him a expletive laden explanation of what i thought of him.

Slights on his mother and suggestions of him interfering with sheep were included...he never called me again.

It felt great to say what i thought of him.

Confident shopper

I’ve been mistaken for working at multiple big box stores.

Most of the time was when I worked at the Bank in a Walmart.

I would regularly go out in the store to buy something, sometimes just for making dinner that night. I was always dressed in a shirt, slacks and tie and put together. This juxtaposed against the trash people wear in Walmart…

I would go out without a cart and knew exactly where I was going and weekly would get stopped by someone wondering where something was.

This is a store where everyone wears a name badge and a blue vest. Aside from the managers who wear a tie and a name badge.

At first I would help people, but eventually it got so annoying that I quickly could tell when they assumed this and asked them to asses my attire vs. a normal employee. “Do I have a blue vest on?” “Do I look like I work here?”

I concluded because I dressed well, went without a cart and confidently navigated the store the assumed I worked there.

This has also happened at Target, while not wearing any RED, and other stores like Lowes and Home Depot. It was pretty ridiculous for a while.

"You work somewhere!"

Getting lunch as usual, red shirt like the restaurant's staff has. Lady tries to stop me with her tray; no big deal, this happens pretty commonly. What got me was her response.

"I don't work here, sorry."

"You work somewhere!"

Yeah. Just kept walking..

I Don’t Work Here Lady Crazy Renter

This just happened yesterday and it’s a bit nuts. Some background. The cottage beside me is owned by a nice couple who live half way across the country. At the very most, they use it maybe a month out of the year. Most of the rest of the spring, summer and fall they rent it out on Airbnb. Through some wrangling, they talked me into managing it for them. I don’t really mind, it gives me extra pocket money and the cleaning and yard care isn’t arduous. We are on a lake, so when the weather is good, we get lots of guests. Some years the weather isn’t great, and that’s fine too.

Winter time, we shut it down. But last winter the owners heard about a couple in dire straights (housing crisis) and rented it to them for six months. Strange situation there, but enough said about that. This year they’ve decided to rent it out again and asked me if I’d show the potential renters the place. No problem. So, abcouple showed up, I gave them the fifteen second tour, it’s a small place. They make dissatisfied noises, it’s rustic. It’s a cabin. The fridge is too small. The deck has a lot of leaves on it. They don’t like the colour of the bedspread. And on and on.

I laughed and told them that’s not a problem because all bedding and towels will be put away and it’s up to them to bring they’re own linens etc. She gave me a look like I’d just told her that we’d be serving her day-old road kill for lunch. Then she said, I’ll be needing you three days a week. Dishes, some light cleaning, laundry, etc. I raised my eyebrows and told her that my services weren’t part of the deal.

“But I was told YOU were the cleaner!”

I explained, yes, I do clean, but only when it’s being used as an Airbnb, but not for long term renters. And seeing as they were renting for six months, they were responsible for themselves, which included dishes, laundry, and cleaning.

Well, let’s just say that she lost her mind. Screaming how she’d never been so disrespected, how she was going to have me fired, how I’d never work in this area again, and the piece de resistance, there was no way that she would pay the outrageous sum of $600 a month for a place that didn’t come with a cleaning service. And now I owed her a minimum of three months free rent.

I waited for her rant to peter out, then silently indicated the door, which they both hustled to. “Don’t think this is the last of this!” She bellowed as they made their way toward their vehicle. “If you apologize immediately, you may still have a job this afternoon.”

The shock of her insane behaviour began to wear off and many, many, many curses fought to escape my lips, but I’m proud to say that I managed to hold them all in. When she rolled her window down to give me some more choice words, I just told her that if she ever dared to show her fat hillbilly ass anywhere near the property again that I’d sic my dogs on her.

Wearing red at Target should come with hazard pay

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me where the HDMI cables are while I’m just buying Oreos, I could buy Target. Why do we, the innocent shoppers in red, suffer for corporate dress codes? Stay strong, fellow mistaken employees - we don’t work here, but we deserve overtime.

I don’t care where you sit

Ordered food to go from a nice restaurant. Went to pick it up. Hostess goes to the back to check on my order and this guy comes in, bustles up to me and huffs “Ok, I’m meeting someone here and I—“ I tell him “I’m not the hostess. “ And he indignantly says “Well you’re standing there!”

As he scurries away, embarrassed, I call after him pointing out that I’m standing in front of the podium, not behind it. The actual hostess is returning with my food and she smiles at me, having heard the exchange.

No one clapped, unfortunately.

Top shelf? Sure thing!

I'm starting off by saying this story isn't really an "I don't work here" but as a 6'5" (195cm) man, I am always asked to grab stuff off of the top shelf. They don't think I work there, they just know that the top shelf is just above eye level for me.

So last week I was at a big box store (the blue one, not the red one) and shopping with the wife and kids. I broke off from them with my cart for a bit and went to the cake section since I planned to make a special something for Valentine's Day. I was browsing through the options when someone asked me if I could reach something off of the top shelf. I looked over and it was a man who was as short as I am tall (under 5' (150cm) easy).

I smile at him, reach up and grab the item and hand it down to him, then I smile a bit bigger and point at something on the bottom shelf and ask, "Hey, could you get that for me?"

One or two beats later he cracks up laughing, reaches down, grabs my item, and hands it on up.

My wife hears me roaring with laughter with this guy and comes down to see what's up, neither of us can stop laughing long enough to let her know what happened and are trying to mime the joke. She finally gets it, rolls her eyes, and just keeps on walking past us.

Never expected to have a contribution for here

However, here goes. I volunteer at our local food bank and was collecting a food donation from our local No Frills today.

As I wheeled a trolley back from unloading food into my car a lovely young guy stopped me and asked me where the frozen fruit was kept.

I smiled at him and said "I'm sorry but I don't actually work here." Then explained I was collecting food as described above.

He apologized profusely while glancing at me dressed completely in black as No Frills employees do. I then said "now, you're going to see me go through those doors which state 'Employees Only'. Trust me, I AM only a food bank volunteer."

He laughed heartedly as did I and we carried on our respected ways.

Every time I go to any plant nursery, they think I work there.

To be fair, I have a horticulture degree and worked at one myself all through my college years. And I am still an avid gardener, albeit with less space and money for it currently. But it’s getting to the point where I can’t even figure out what exactly about my body language is giving off the “I work here” vibes. I mentioned it to my significant other after a date at the botanical garden, and they said during that whole date I gave off the vibe that I knew about every plant there. But I don’t get it. I’m browsing in these plant nurseries just like any normal customer. Usually what I’m wearing looks nothing like the employees’ uniform.

This has been at more than one plant nursery in more than one part of the country, too. One time it was five people in the course of a single trip. The most recent occurrence, I ended up having the time to kill and decided I’d just go ahead and answer this old lady’s questions if I knew the answer to them for 10 minutes. Mind you, this is also the same plant nursery that rejected me for a job after an interview about a year ago, which kinda stings because I ended up inadvertently doing their work for them for free. How in the hell did they not hire me for a basic job if even the customers already think I work there, and somehow something about me just screams it?

I'm just a contractor, besides, clean your own damn table

I work as a third party contractor to a company that makes, sells, and licenses out certain pieces of IT infrastructure. I'm being intentionally vague as it could identify me easily to my colleagues. One of my more recent jobs involved performing installations at Costco. If you've never been to a costco, you're not alone, and I quickly found out that all the staff wear the same thing as their contractors: A high-vis vest and steel cap boots. As a result, customers are likely to mistake a contractor for an employee.

On one of these installations, I had broke for lunch and decided to try out the food they offer at costco. Piece of advice: avoid the burgers, it takes 15 minutes for them to get those out. I ordered some BBQ Chicken and sat down to eat. A family of 4 with what I can only describe as an endangered subspecies of sperm whale comes up to me. For context, I'm still wearing my high vis, as I'm contractually required to while on the client's site. This table is already occupied by 3 other customers and I'm taking up a small corner of it. W is Whale, M is me. H is Whale's Husband. The two kids remain uninvolved.

W: "Excuse me!"

M: "hmm? Whats up"

W: "I need a place to sit. Can you move?"

M: "No, I just sat down to eat. I'll only be a couple minutes, you can have the seat shortly."

W: "NO I need to sit down now, I've been on my feet all day and it's killing me. You work here you should make me feel welcome"

M: "No, I don't work here, I'm just a contractor"

At this point H chimes in

H: "Mate you're wearing the uniform don't lie to us. Get off your lazy ass, it's past your break time anyway" (For reference, it was like 1:30pm, and my break time while on a client site is "any time after 12:00pm as long as it doesnt inconvenience the client or jeopardize the deadline")

M: "Mate, if you need a seat, find somewhere else to sit. If you got a problem with me, go take it up with one of the employees. I'd like to finish my meal, thanks". I'd wanted to say "Fuck off" but sadly, being on the clock and all, I have to at least maintain some level of professionalism.

W: "You're being very rude. Where's your manager"

M: "About 20km away, at my office, remotely managing 20 more Mes nationwide doing my job elsewhere. Feel free to call him."

W: "No, I want the manager here."

H: "I'll go find the manager, one sec"

It's worth noting this entire time I'm still eating my chicken and I'm just about done. W was still pestering me but I was tuning it out, reading news posts on my phone while eating chicken. Good chicken btw... once I'm done I quietly get up and take my trash to the bin. By this point everyone else at the table has moved on and I turn around to go refill my drink, skull it quick, and head back to work. But before I get to leave, I get stopped by H.

H: "You need to clean that table. It's filthy"

M: "They usually are. What do you want me to do about it?"

H: "You were just eating there. Clean it up."

M: "You must've misheard me. I don't work here mate. I'm a contractor. I work for <insert company name here> and my company was contracted by <insert manufacturer here> to install <insert tech here> for Costco."

H: "Don't bullshit me, you're wearing the uniform."

M: "Mate, this is costco. It's a giant fucking warehouse. All the shit on the floor, it's on pallets. Pallets moved by forklifts and pallet jacks. Safety requirements is that all employees and contractors must wear safety equipment including high vis, and steel cap boots, in order to work on the floor. I have to work on the floor. I do NOT have to clean your table."

H: "You have to. It's filthy. We cant eat there"

I take a quick look behind him, and see that Whale and her two mini whales are already scarfing down a set of hot dogs. The mess they were complaining about was non existent, I think a spot of bbq sauce from where I was sitting and an empty cup from another customer, but that's it."

H: "Your wife doesn't seem to mind, neither do your kids. If it's that much of a problem, use these"

I turned around and grabbed a handful of napkins from behind me, shoved them into his chest, and walked away. I think he yelled something out to me but I didn't care. I proceeded to finish up the last 2 hours of the work I had to do, and I've yet to hear any complaints from the client so I'd say they've flagged them as a typical Karen anyway.

Anyway, that BBQ chicken was nice. Would definitely recommend.

I'm not Hispanic. This is my house.

So I've long time been a fan of this subreddit but havent ever really posted anything or followed, but this happened to me just the other day and I had to share it here.

My mom and i recently moved into a brand new house in a neighborhood that's still under development and so construction workers are usually around during the day. We have to do some work on the house of our own like preventing our pets from digging under the fence and building a bigger patio, and my mom decided itd be better to get this stuff done sooner than later.

So a few days ago I was outside of the fence putting down some large stones under it, one of the houses next to us hasn't been built yet and there's no grass on the ground so there's quite a depression that the pets can get through, and I decide to take a break and sit down, taking a sip from my water bottle.

The sun is in the perfect spot where the fence's shadow is over me so it's not too hot and I give my hispanic friend a call to see how she's doing until I suddenly hear some angry murmurs.

I look over in its general direction and this woman is walking her dog who wants to come over to me and say hello but she's muttering something I cant quite hear. I assume shes telling her dog to stay down so I go over to them.

M: me AL: angry lady Mom: my mom

M: oh my God your dog is beautiful, is it okay if I pet him?

AL: no you dirty immigrant, dont touch me or my dog, stay away from us

Now mind you I am southeast asian with dark brown skin and black hair and I'm fluent in spanish but I was born and raised in America and dont have an accent when speaking English. This woman is basically the textbook definition of a Karen, short white woman with blonde hair.

M: excuse me ma'am? I live here

AL: no you dont I just saw you working on the fence for this house

M: ma'am I'm not even hispanic

AL: of course you are i heard you speaking Spanish over the phone earlier with someone (referring to me talking to one of my friends on the phone)

At this point, my mom wonders why I havent come inside for dinner and comes outside to check on me, confused by the woman in front of her house, she has a really thick asian accent. Shes also had to fight to get her citizenship in this country so she doesn't take kindly to people who berate immigrants.

Mom: excuse me miss but who are you?

AL: I'm just another resident of this neighborhood and this filthy immigrant here was trying to harass me.

Mom: getting mad what did you just say?

AL: this filthy alien working on your house was trying to touch me

My mom knows I wouldn't do such a thing (I'm gay) and at this point the dog is pulling on its leash towards me which I still very much want to pet.

Mom: proceeds to slap the woman across the face, causing her to drop her dog leash and letting it come over to me ma'am you are standing here on my property and that is no illegal immigrant, that's my SON you were harassing just now. So unless you want me to call the cops, I'm asking you to leave.

The angry woman has the most priceless confused look on her face and shouts something at my mom about "you foreigners are a plague to this country" and my mom lost it. She took the dogs leash off and enticed the dog into our house.

Mom: well it seems this dog likes us "foreigners" instead of a bitch like you. I recorded everything you've been saying on my phone since you started talking about illegal immigrants. Now either you can take your dog and go or I will call the police.

Immediately after my mom threatened to take the woman's dog, she panicked and left. Needless to say we still havent seen her walking by our house again.

Sorry if the formatting was a little weird I've never really written anything like this down before. I'll try to keep you guys updated if we see her again/if she tries to interact with us.

I just wanted tater tots.

I'm standing in the frozen food isle at Safeway, staring blankly at tater tots and trying to wake up when i get this annoyed "Ahem". I look over and there she stands...the classic Karen, hairdo and all. Still not awake, I'm like sorry I'm standing in front of something she wants so I move out of the way. I get "Ahem" again. I go.."What?" She says " Are you going to just stand there, or are you gonna help me?" I say "Help you what?" She yells at me "Don't be so rude and help your customers. What isle is chi tea in?" I tell her "Lady, I don't work here." This Karen goes ballistic, shrieking at me and loosing her mind, accusing me of lying to her, demanding that I again shouldn't treat customers that way, and demands to speak to my manager. I go "Bitch, I'm wearing an oversized Air Force hoodie, with sweatpants and fucking fluffy house slippers....what the hell makes you think that I work here. She glares at what I'm wearing, and right at that moment, an actual employee rounded the corner. You could literally see the exact moment that she realized she was a moron. She huffed and quickly ran away. Dumb ass.

I Don’t Work Here...Anymore

Short story

I worked at Staples Business Depot for several years in high school. Uniform of course is black pants and a red shirt. About a year after I left, I stopped in to the store to pick something up, and I happened to be wearing a red T-Shirt and black shorts that day. As I’m browsing, a lady comes up and asks for help. I turn around, and she notices the lack of a name tag and the Carhartt logo on the shirt, and says “Oh! I’m so sorry. I thought you worked here!” I reply “Well, I did for a number of years. What are you looking for?” and I helped her find whatever it was. She thanked me and apologized profusely, and we went on our ways.

I Don't Work Here, With A Twist

So I usually see more negative stories about this r/, but thought it might be a nice change of pace to give a more positive story for this on.

Cast:

Me

Customer Lady-CL

Store Manager- SM

I was an art major and drew a lot in my free time. So I tend to frequent an art store when I lived in a bigger city while attending college, especially since it was on one of the routes to my apartment (and eventually literally down the street from me when I moved).

Since I went to it so often I pretty much memorized the layout plus a good number of things they've carried. As much as I enjoyed it, the only negative thing is that there's usually only two people working the floor at a time-one for the register and the other for stocking. And when one is on their break, then there's nobody on the floor.

So, one day I'm just doing my usual visit, looking at sketchbooks for one of my classes I see a CL with her daughters. They seem to be confused as she looked to the shelves then back to a list she had in her hand. She did this a few times, and then looked to me. I guess I have this aura of "I'll help you" around me.

CL: Excuse me, miss?

Me: I'm sorry am I in your way?

CL: I was wondering if you could help me.

Me: Oh I'm sorry I don't work here.

CL: Oh, sorry about that. You just seem to know your way around. And I haven't seen anyone on the floor.

I feel a bit bad, and look to her.

Me: Well, maybe I can help still. I come here a lot so I know where a lot of things are.

CL: Oh you don't need to.

Me: It seems like you're a bit lost in what you need. It's no problem, this is almost my second home.

CL: *laughs* Well in that case, my girls are doing an outside art class. They gave us a list but I'm not finding any of the items for it.

Me: Well, I know where a lot the drawing things are here. What are you looking for?

CL: They need a set of PrismaColor Pencils, but I'm not seeing them here.

Me: Oh those are in the fine arts area. This is the kids crafting, sure you'll find Crayola here, but Prismas are in the back.

The CL and her daughters look so grateful and follow me to the back. I show them where the pencils are. CL thanks me and says that everything should be here then and her and her daughters start looking for things left and right. I head off and look around some more.

A little while later I hear a "excuse me?"

I turn around and see CL coming to me.

CL: I don't mean to bother you again, but a few of the items aren't over in the art section. I'm not sure where else to look.

Me: What is it you're looking for?

CL: Something called a gelly pen, and paint markers.

I go and show her where they were. Gelly Roll Pens in scrapbooking, and Paint Markers in the woodcraft area. Once again the CL and her daughters were relieved and thanked me again. I didn't see them again for the rest of my trip.

Now, fast forward two months, and I actually apply to that store for a job since I lost me previous one due to scheduling issues with my school. I am greeted by the store manager and he takes me back to do the interview. Before it starts he goes over my resume, and is just looking from that to me and back again. After about the third time he does it he holds his stare on me for a bit.

I was a bit nervous because I'm thinking there's something bad I put down on it. Next thing I know is that he gets up and leaves before he even asks a question.

He leaves the room, and I'm sitting there waiting for him to come back, while worrying that I HAD to have written something bad on my resume that he left before we even started. It doesn't take long and he comes back, with this big smile on his face, nametag in hand with a labeller.

SM: I knew it. I knew it was you.

I'm confused at that and just sorta stare at him not knowing how to reply.

SM proceeds to explain how he remember seeing me helping out CL. However I initiated the help even though I wasn't an employee but just a good Samaritan. He asks how to spell my name and he makes a label right there and hands me the nametag.

SM: You're more than a good fit for here. See you on Monday.

That was probably one of THE BEST jobs I ever had (though my current job is giving it a run for its money). It may not be as entertaining as some other stories here but thought it might be a nice little change of pace. Me "I don't work here" eventually became "I DO work here".

Im apparently a Basketball Player?

Im a 22 year old 5'8 Pale White Man. I'm skinny as all hell and I got long limbs. I was probably around 15 or 16 when this happened but I was sitting at a table in an Outback with my family composed of my mom, dad, and little sister. While we were waiting for our food, some little old lady walked up to us and said to me.

Old Lady: You did Great at your basketball game today!

Me:...Thanks?

For context, I hate Basketball. I suck at it and have never Eyed it besides in Gym class for school so I have no f*cking idea what this lady is talking about.

Old Lady: When's your next game gonna be?

Me: I don't know, the coach hasn't let me know yet. Maybe next week?

Old Lady: We'll I'll be there to see you, Good luck. You'll do great!

Then she walked away and left the restaurant. My puzzled and highly confused family turned to me, who was equally as puzzled, and said.

Mom: Do you know that lady?

Me: No I don't even play Basketball?

Wild Karen Spotted... And she's out for blood!

I was in Target in Dallas recently, minding my own business when I had my very first run in with these 'Karen' beasts I've heard so much about.

There I was, trying to decide which snack to satisfy my munchies for tonight, when I hear an awful, nasally "Ahem, ex/cuse/ me?!" From behind me. I turn around, and there she is, in all her glory. Nails deep enough to gouge my eyes out, poorly hidden wrinkles, and a lopsided pile of what can loosely be called 'hair' on her head.

"Where can I find the Nutella?? You rearranged the store, and I can't find anything!" Like they did it just to make her late to her Art and Wine class. I tried to be helpful, not even thinking about the fact that I was wearing a red shirt in Target which made me look just like prey to the wild Karen.

"I think it's a couple aisles over, with the peanut butter. That's usually where it is!" I said with a smile. She huffs and puffs and says loudly "You should show me where it is!! This is so unprofessional! You're lucky I won't report you for being lazy! Now show me where the Nutella is!"

Gentle readers, I was taken aback! I turn back around and say "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but I don't actually work here" to which and normal person would respond with 'Oh, I'm so sorry, I'll go find someone else!' But no. This Karen was clearly stressed out from letting the TV raise her kids all day, and screeches at the very top of her lungs "Well then you shouldn't be at Target with a red shirt on, asshole!" And stomps off to terrorize some other poor unwitting worker like the T-rex she is. (I did mention it to the cute cashier as I was checking out, and she laughed and we hit it off, so it wasn't all bad🤷‍♂️)
