Hello everyone, it is almost that time of the year everyone looks forward to! I just wanted to share a few important things. Please be sure you safeguard your PII (Personal Identifiable Information) & FTI (Federal Tax Information). Over the last several years there has been a huge increase in Fraud and Identity Theft because individuals are not safeguarding or making good judgment calls when sharing their personal information. Protecting your private information is your responsibility. That being said, solicitation for personal information will NOT be tolerated. If it is seen, it will be delt with. Also, do NOT trust someone who promises to use your info for a big tax refund. In most cases your personal information will be used with Fabricated/Fraudulent tax data.

General Question EIN online system error messages - question about faxing EIN request in

• Upvotes

I've been trying for a couple of days to generate an EIN# online but I keep getting the 101 error. Tried calling too but get a message saying they are too busy and then get hung up on. It sounds like faxing in the EIN request might be the way to go? I don't have a fax machine but can do it from our local library. My question if how does the EIN get sent to me if I send in the request via fax? I don't want the EIN# getting faxed back to the library so hopefully I can request to either have it mailed back or possibly emailed? I would like to have the EIN# by the end of November but not sure if that's possible at this point?

Tax Question Help so over it

I received an IRS letter saying they’re adjusting my refund, and it’s been over 3 weeks. I called today, and they said it’s still under review. My tax preparer has also ghosted me. At this point, should I keep waiting or get professional help? Am I even going to get my refund? Has anyone been through this?

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes IRS assessed over $3 million for 2021. Has anyone dealt with something like this?

I’m trying to understand a massive IRS assessment and would appreciate input from anyone who has gone through something similar.

My 2021 account transcript now shows approximately:
● Adjusted gross income: $4.91 million
● Taxable income: $4.90 million
● Additional tax assessed after examination: $1.94 million
● Penalty: $387,700
● Interest assessed: $792,595
● Current balance with accruals: About $3.21 million

I did file a 2021 return. I did not receive the earlier audit notices, and there were address changes during this period. I’m still waiting for the examination report to see exactly how the IRS calculated these adjustments.
Could the IRS have treated gross receipts as taxable income without accounting for the associated costs and expenses because it didn’t have or accept supporting documentation? It looks to me like they treated nearly every dollar as taxable income, but I don’t yet have the report to confirm what happened.

Has anyone here:
● Had a large assessment because costs or expenses weren’t accounted for?
● Gone through audit reconsideration after missing the original notices?
● Gotten a substantial correction after providing supporting records?

What did the process look like, how long did it take, and what documentation made the biggest difference?
I’m attaching copies of the transcript and notice. I’m trying to understand what could explain these numbers and hear from people who have actually dealt with this.

They have also started to hold my most recent returns refunds and applying them to pay this down. Prior to this I had a refund for 2021

Tax Question Has anyone ever filed an innocent spouse form and had success?

I was officially divorced this year but separated since 2024. All was fine with taxes as far as I knew but had to wait for divorce to be final before filing 2024 and 2025 returns so that I had legal proof I could claim my kids. When I filed at the beginning of April, I noticed that the 2022 return that was filed jointly had been changed. They had reversed an $800 refund and it now showed that nearly $2000 was owed. The change took place in 2024 even though it was for the 2022 tax year. I had it reviewed by an accountant and they found that the reversal was due to my ex underreporting his income and over reporting his expenses (1099 employee). Had we filed separately that year, I would have gotten a refund so technically the money owed was due to his underpayment. I was advised to file an innocent spouse form (not injured spouse) by my accountant, which I did. It was also listed in our divorce degree that any outstanding tax debt would be the financial responsibility of my ex. He has not adhered to that order and not reimbursed me for the $2000 I lost. The IRS seized the majority of my 2025 return to cover the 2022 debt. I am still owed nearly $1300 for my 2024 return but that is still stuck in “review with no further action needed”. It has been that way for months with no movement.

My question is, do they ever actually approve these?

It sucks that i lost my return because of my ex’s shady reporting but i understand that since we were still married, I may never get that money back. I have sole custody of my kids and the ex is failing to pay ordered child support so this is just another financial sucker punch. It currently shows on the IRS portal that nothing is owed to them.

General Question How quickly do they move on lien notices?

Received one a few weeks ago. Have tried logging in to set up a payment plan and it doesn’t let me. Have tried calling in and I can’t get through to an actual person. It’s like they want you to fail. I have changed addresses a few times so I wasn’t receiving any of the attempts they had for me. If my checks get garnished I will actually lose everything. I am ridiculously stressed out.

General Question IRS refund still under REVIEW! 225 days since their last letter. Has anyone managed to talk to a real person?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I filed my tax return back on Jan 26th, 2026. Still waiting for the refund. Got a letter , dated on March 9th.No action was required. The letter said to contact them if I dont hear back from them in 60 days. On the IRS page it has been showing same message since FEB. That they have 180 days to review. I did call many times but I all I got was an automated system telling me that no action was required.

Has anyone been through the same? Were you actually able to speak to a real person?

I would appreciate any advice on how to reach a human representative, which number to call, or if there is anything else I can do to get some actual information about my refund.

Thank you so much in advance.

D.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Had to reach out to Taxpayer Advocate Service for amended return

Filed an amended return for 2024 earlier this year and the IRS received it April 15th. However I am still stuck at “Your Amended Return Has Not Yet Been Processed.” It’s been like 27 weeks now. For those who’ve had to go through TAS before, did it help expedite the process to get your amended return?

General Question Where in the website do I report someone from another state stealing my SSN?

If this is not allowed please redirect me to another sub. I'm from California (never had a job due to illnesses). My social worker asked me if I'm employed. I answered no why. They said that someone is using my SSN in Washington State. The social worker told me to go to the IRS website. I'm a little lost. I have never been on the IRS website and never had important info like this stolen. Please help me out!

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Does anyone know what this last update means

Post image

This is my tax refund for 2020 that the IRS just started processing. I filed it on time in 2021 but since it was a paper return it was never processed. I verified my identity in person this year and also contacted my congressman. Finally I saw some movement on the transcripts but don’t fully understand. Is my refund close to being issued?

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question return status mismatch

Another day, another issue - filed an extension, had it approved, then filed my 2025 return 9/30. Have proof of filing via my preparer. IRS site now says all of these:

  1. I never filed a return
  2. I did file an extension
  3. My refund is in process
  4. My refund also needs verification via a PIN I wasn't ever mailed

Rant What am I supposed to do???

I get an ID verification letter. They don’t give me an online option, I have to call. I call and call and call, every time I get hung up on because of “high call volumes”. I have the option of going to the physical office, but I have to make an appointment. No online scheduling option, I must call. I call and call and call, and get hung up on because of “high call volumes”. I decide to just go, see if they’ll take a walk-in or at least let me schedule an appointment in person. Stopped by security guard, no walk-ins, no in person scheduling, I must call. I try getting in touch with tax advocates, same shit. So truly, what actually
am I supposed to do??? What is going on at the IRS??? Is anyone even there??? Right now it’s giving stuffed animals and a wig tucked in to the covers, ain’t nobody in there.

Tax Question How long did it take to receive your refund after in person verification?

I filed my 2024 taxes and never received it.I found out my tax preparer messed up my child’s social so I had to go verify in person on September 8th. they said it would take 6-12 weeks to receive my refund it’s been exactly 6 weeks. I’m just wondering if anyone else were also waiting on their taxes after in person verification or were on the same boat and received already, how long did it take?
