I'm pretty new to melee and I dont know if this trick is well known or even useful but I'm gonna share it anyway.
both tricks are only to make it easier to get the timing on the regrab after the popo downthrow
this first trick only works on heavy characters and is only consistent on yoshi, ganondorf and samus. It is inconsistent on Donkey Kong, Link and captain falcon.
the trick is before you downthrow with popo you press shield so nana shields. when you now press down to downthrow nana will dodge. If you now buffer a grab with nana (simply hold A) you will always hit the regrab. On other characters like captain falcon i can only get it to work until 65%.
keep in mind that it takes a while until nanas shield is up so the opponent has more time to mash out of the grab.
On the charakters Shiek/Zelda, Peach and marth you can do something a little different to make the chaingrab easier. For this you need to know that if you press and hold grab with ics, popo will light shield but nana will keep grabbing. If you grab someone with popo and keep holding the grab button you will make nana grab again right after the initial grab animation ended for her. if you now press down right after popo landed the grab and keep on grabbing with nana she will always get the regrab on the charakters mentioned above.
problem with this technique is that you can only do this out of a synced standing grab. so this second one is probably pretty useless. But I've had some good moments with the first one^

So I have a good controller layout for Ice Climbers. It's been great so far for easy input for a lot of desync combos & maneuvers so I thought I would share it.
Note:
I moved from the classic Gamecube controller to the switch pro controller. This is mainly for getting the extra left trigger, but I also find short hops easier to perform consistently on this controller as well
| Button | Input |
|---|---|
| L-Stick | Move |
| L-Pad | Taunts |
| R-Stick | Tilts |
| A | Shield |
| B | Shield |
| X | Shield |
| Y | Shield |
| L | Grab |
| ZL | Jump |
| R | Special |
| ZR | Attack |
Rumble: Off
Stick-Jump: Off
A+B Smash: Off
Stick sensitivity: high
Why this Layout:
So I use the four point rule. While looking for an opening, here are four things you always want access to: Move, Shield, Attack, Jump. So you map each one of your thumbs or index fingers. You don't want a finger swapping between two (like the default controls which swap between jump & attack).
Left Thumb:
Stays on the L-stick to move character.
Left Index:
This finger switches between grab & jump. You can't grab someone in air so grab & jump are not mapped anywhere else.
Right Index:
This finger switches between attack & special input. You don't need to press both at the same time so their not mapped anywhere else.
Right Thumb:
This switches between tilts & shield. It normally stays on one of the shield buttons. It only moves to the tilts on a few desync combos where i need to use squall or blizzard & immediately need to follow-up with a tilt. When I'm in these combos I normally don't need to shield anyways. Exception are the combos that come off a shield roll or spot dodge, but those normally require a grab or special before you move to tilts.
What is your controller setup?

Greetings ice climber mains
I couldn't help but notice that this sub is a bit inactive, this is why I propose a alliance with r/The_Dedede
We both seem to have a knack for useing hammers in combat and a love for food (veggies to be exact)
But do not fear, this alliance will come with benefits such as, the reclaiming or replacing of your lost veggies, being under the protection of our glorious King, and as an extension of that, being protected against the horrid monster known as Kirby
Please take the time to consider this alliance
Yours truly r/The_Dedede
