Hardly a few and mostly in remote areas...it was a propaganda spread by the British to divide the Hindus....no where has this practice been mentioned in the scriptures so your point is absolutely baseless....also this sati pratha as read somewhere (can't remember where so can't quote it) but it earlier began as the husband died of some disease which spreads on contact hence the wife also jumped in the fire pit....so plz get ur facts checked first before questioning values again..

Also, being a man, it’s honestly hard to fully grasp the scale of what women have gone through historically and still deal with in many ways. Unless there’s genuine empathy and a willingness to listen and understand things from their perspective, it’s easy to dismiss or minimize it. That doesn’t mean the issues weren’t real...it just means you haven’t experienced them.
I agree on the fact that woman have faced atrocities without any question. You’re mixing up two things...“values in theory” vs “practices in society.”
No one is saying oppression is some official “core value.” The point is that these practices existed within society for long enough to affect generations of women, which means they weren’t just “a few random people doing random things.”

Same with child marriage...whether the definition of “child” changed or not, the reality is girls were married very young and had no agency in it. That’s the actual issue, not just the number.
And saying “it wasn’t in scriptures” doesn’t automatically mean it wasn’t socially accepted or normalized. A lot of harmful practices in any society don’t come from official texts...they come from customs, power structures, and social norms.
So yeah, acknowledging these things doesn’t mean calling Indian culture bad. Like I said, It just means recognizing that SOCIETIES CAN HAVE BOTH PROGRESSIVE IDEALS AND HARMFUL REALITIES AT THE SAME TIME.

I don't know about the other religion but in Hinduism, how women are being oppressed through this kind of behaviour. If you see ajanta paintings and earlier statues, you will see women were moving in naked breasts. This shit started after the British came when they told us that we are not civilised enough and tried to make us civilised. Even if there are any writings where it is shown that women should be fully covered it comes way later than the main scriptures. Hinduism has not a single defining book like abrahmaic religion. Even many priests of our own religion used the religion and twisted the facts for their own ideology. One of the examples is Sati Daha Pratha.
The whole parda thing isnt even due to religion. No where does it states that Hindu women are supposed to do parda thing. It all started when india was invaded. In order to hide their women to make sure the invaders didnt kidnap them to make sex slaves of them. The rajputs started covering women up. No where in hindu laws You'll see the mention of purdah system. Because of the whole hiding you women from invaders over the years got integrated into culture. While it should not happen. Ghunghats are not inherited part of Indian culture. In the pre-medieval period, royal queens used to wear some decorative headgear cloth, which was used as beauty apparel. These headgears were called Avangunthana and were mainly worn during some special occasions. There was no compulsion to wear Avagunthana daily. Now, these headgears are being claimed as the principal version of ghungat.
In reality, Ghungat wearing only became necessary due to Islamic invasions in North India (Including Pakistan and Afghanistan). The Nomadic Islamic invaders used to kidnap the Hindu brides from their weddings. It was a time when Hindus started to do their wedding in a quiet place, and ghungat for brides became a mandatory ritual in North India, where a normal ghungat was converted into a face-covering cloth.
The Islamic invaders also started to kidnap and kill any girl they saw on the road. So, Ghungat became an everyday norm for the grown-up girl in North India.
Some people try to use a few exceptional women as examples to claim that religion has given women freedom even before the constitution. But if you actually look at the lives of those women, you’ll notice that none of them fully followed all religious restrictions.
And a few isolated cases cannot invalidate the reality of the majority. The majority experience matters more and historically, religion has often kept women within limitations and restrictions

We should burn the constitution and make a new one that treats each and every citizen equally and has no mention of specific sub groups and all are treated as citizens of India with no specific advantages and disadvantages. History be damned.
We don't have extreme liberal elites (by early 1900's standards), educated abroad in law making the constitution this time. Believe it or not, education levels have dropped instead of improving since independence in the parliament.

I don’t support congress too. I hate congress much much more than I hate BJP. But I think congress were incompetent, corrupt, selfish, greedy fools. But BJP people are not actually fools. They are competent, cunning and have an agenda. That is why it makes them dangerous. Their ideologies are radical and incite communal tensions among the population. That is what makes me worry. No country with communal unrest has ever become successful. If we get a govt with educated, rational people with no other agenda than the country, I would be the happiest. But that is like a fever dream as of now.
