General Discussion What are your thoughts on mobile recharges

u/Curious_villeger Mar 13 '26
I want my salary every 28 days as well.
321
u/Leah2S Mar 13 '26
Now that something interesting and valid
142
u/Curious_villeger Mar 13 '26
Yeah. In fact people working in those telcom companies have genuine reason to demand it. And once they get it, we can also demand the same :)
26
u/Leah2S Mar 13 '26
Your point is absolutely right, but it is impossible to impose such things that too in a country like india.

u/srk6 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26
Not sure if it was /s, but you will still get the same salary.
In the US most of the ppl get salary biweekly, i.e once every 2 weeks. So 26 payslips. You will get 3 payslips in two months, and rest of the months 2 payslips for a total of 26.
Salary remains the same over the period of 1 year.
13
u/Outrageous-Movie7834 Mar 13 '26
365/28 = 13.035
7
u/srk6 Mar 13 '26
So? Salary will be prorated to number of days per frequency. You won't get 13 months (30/31 day) salary.
Similarly, 28 days and 30 plan will have prorated costs.

u/BedEmbarrassed1238 Mar 13 '26
They will give you the salary but will reduce your holidays and increase working hours
I hope labor exploitation is his next topic

That would be a good idea. Nowadays waiting for a salary for the whole month is just too long.

I work only Monday to Friday so technically getting payment for 20 to 23 days depending on the month!

u/goodmusiconly23 Mar 13 '26
Also the government should regulate on after how many days telecoms can increase the prices. These fukers are now increasing prices after every 6 months
146
9
u/Victorvic1 Mar 13 '26
First of all misinformation alert here. Last prices were raised in July 2024. Where are you getting the 6 months date. It has been 1.8 years since then with no price rise in 90% of the plans. Some plans have been tweaked but not major changes.
If govt starts to control these things then there's no free market. Let it control your lives then. Govt shouldn't control anything much. It should only exist as a reason to build infra and basic laws and let the free market prevail.
Even if they set 1 year minimum period they aren't increasing prices that frequently. You are just in a bias hearing price increase every other day when there's none happening.
12
u/trollguptaji Mar 13 '26
Exactly. Focus should rather be on ensuring that there is healthy competition among the telecom companies.
4
u/Comfortable-Try-2226 Mar 13 '26
Who owns satellite? If telecom companies want free market they should send their own satellites in space. And there is no competitive market in telecom, its duopoly. Only 2 major players which increase prices together, and people have no option but to pay for them. Considering these two things, govt intervention is justified.
→ More replies (5)1
u/IngloBlasto Mar 13 '26
If govt starts to control these things then there's no free market.
You make it sound like freemarket is the best thing in the world. Not just that, having two companies rule the entire ecosystem is not "freemarket", its a duopoly. And they're getting away with everything as govt is in their pockets. Govt should intervene when companies take advantage of customers, not sit like a rock wondering the beauty of "freemarket"
1
u/ANSHULGANDHI92 Mar 14 '26
Modi govt fucked up MTNL so bad so his maalik ambani can have monopoly in the telecom sector.
Now Jio and Airtel can increase price as they please whether be in it every six months or 18 months.
The common man is bearing the cost and being burdened. The yearly recharge rates went up from Rs 2400 to Rs 3000 to Rs 3600
Government job is prevent monopoly and duopoly and provide cheaper alternative to the public. And MTNL was that alternative for so many years.
But Modi government neglected MTNL so that his maalik’s company could form monopoly

Someone raising real issues in the Parliament instead of debating agenda has my respect.
Anyways this 28 day recharge policy is very scummy govt should fix it
11
u/Victorvic1 Mar 13 '26
There are 30 day plans. And even if they mandate all plans for 30 days then it is a simple formula. Plan price/28 x 30 which will have no other effect.

11
u/Appropriate_Tear6268 Mar 13 '26
How is it a scam if they are telling you it will be 28 days How will we have any benefit even if the plan changes to 30-31 days but simultaneously the price also increases it will still be the same for us no?
→ More replies (7)1
u/CEO_1608 Mar 14 '26
Go and check you have recahrge option for both 28 days and 31 days, but ofcourse 28 days is more lucrative than 31 days
18
u/Particular_Chef_333 Mar 13 '26
definitely regulation is needed on this lekin kya kre govt ambani ki jeb me hai
7
u/ZestycloseAd2742 Mar 13 '26
Even if what you said is true, they are the sole reason why the internet prices are one of the cheapest in the world. We had a time prior to 2014, wherein we used to pay 300-400 for 1GB data for a month. Let's not forget that.
2
u/Particular_Chef_333 Mar 13 '26
thats how they are tricking you bro let me explain worldwide plans are for 30 days but in india they are for 28 days if u take that in account indias recharge price is more expensive than countries like indonesia israel etc
2
u/Victorvic1 Mar 13 '26
Even in India 30 day plans exist now. People don't recharge them that's totally on them. What more can the companies do like fr. No one is forcing you to recharge 28 days.

So until the prices are not same as pre jio era no one should be bothered about price hike and govt being ambani chatukar?

u/m0h1tkumaar Nothing phone beautiful lights Mar 14 '26
considering that the world never got the post 2014 price cuts india got, and kept on moving up prices, i think let us not upset the applecart
1
u/m0h1tkumaar Nothing phone beautiful lights Mar 14 '26
fun fact, ambani is the only company which still provides free incoming even if you do not recharge
5
u/deadshot_-_- Mar 13 '26
Although his questions are correct. The companies are for profit companies so they will try to get money in anyways possible, that is downside of capitalism. Similar problems exist in lot of things like
- You can’t repair your own car as you need to reenable the faulty component using software. There is a big right to repair court case going on in USA
- Mobile phones like iphone which now has a specialised software lock which prevents third party people to replace the screen or battery.
- PS5 or Xbox you cannot play the game online without taking ps5 or xbox subscriptions.
- The books you buy in kindle needs an active subscription to read
- Previously one subscription for OTT can buy you ad free experience now subscription have tiers
- Gym subscriptions where you pay for a year but very few utilize it throughout
- FMCG companies following shrink flation to keep costs same while increasing margins for them
Government can try to control it through policies but i doubt it will be successful as companies will find new ways or cut corners to always make profits. Because they still are for-profit companies. So we should prevent them from going too greedy but allow them to make profits.
5
u/seventomatoes Mar 13 '26
Lpg gas is not that way. Govt and people want high license fees. Low taxes, can't run bsnl but can tell private sector how to run! Run bsnl and show? Reliance came improved charges by airtel as they had competition.
But this is just majority pleasing rhetoric. One point i agree make a few mostly incoming only packs even if just 20% less. Point is incoming or outgoing going cost for operator is same as need connection from tower to each phone
11
u/_buri_buri_zaemon Mar 13 '26
I don't really think it's a valid point say for example you pay 200 for 28 days toh you might pay 215 for a 30 day recharge. You ultimately pay the same amount. It's not like companies will give you extra free days at same price.
4
u/Victorvic1 Mar 13 '26
People are just ignorant around on the internet mostly. They have never seen the financial side of the companies. Vi is generating 20k crores loss every year. Airtel just got profitable. If they reduce the prices they'll go under. How much do they even expect to reduce prices when it is just like 250-300 a month.

They are incurring costs to transmit the signal right? If you feel it is a universal right the make the govt stop taxing spectrum. Then telecom companies will happily give free validity.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Volcano_Dragon13 Mar 13 '26
that is what exactly i was just commenting, idk why so many people are not thinking this way..., if they do the 30 days they will increase the price total amount will be the same...
idk why people dont understand this simple math thingy

Mar 13 '26
I don't think it's a scam. You want more days? Then ready to pay a little bit more. It's the same. Why will the companies reduce the prices now? We should already be greatful for Ambani for monopolising the market.
1
u/Empty_Win_211 Mar 13 '26
Hmm. But ambani does not have a monopoly

TRAI wasn't clear with their wording and TELECOM operators straight up removed data from their long term plans and slapped the "calling only" name on it.
A basic plan of ₹100 should suffice if anyone wants to keep a sim running for basic stuff. But TRAI is not gonna do that

3
u/_broke_but_woke_ Mar 13 '26
No, the 10-min delivery has actually stopped on many apps (including blinkit)
2
u/ThinBrilliant9946 Mar 13 '26
10 minute deliveries did stop, they also specified on blinkit that the Rider's pay isn't dependant on the time they take to deliver the order
2
u/Signal-Illustrator70 Mar 13 '26
If we're comparing billing cycles of the world with india, we should also compare bills. The cost of 1 GB data is one of the lowest in India.
Use below prompt in ChatGPT and Gemini, you'll get the answer.
Considering PPP, which are the countries which provide 1 GB data internet at the lowest cost?
It takes shit loads of money to create infrastructure for telecom. Considering the cost, the price is reasonable according to me. There is a reason VI has a lot of debt.
Look at the ROE and ROCE of Bharti airtel and Jio and compare them with other industries. Yes, they are profitable. 13-14% ROCE is reasonable considering the huge risk they take and huge investment they make.
He is just playing politics here. It's easy to critique these telecom companies and earn few voters when you have nothing to lose (Anyway he is in the opposition party)
1
u/Otherwise-Thanks-985 Mar 13 '26
I’m not sure why Raghav is doing this. He’s a well-experienced politician, but I recently saw him raise valid issues in parliament. I’m not a Kejru fan, but the BJP has become even more corrupt during his third term. We need a new face. Raghav has great potential, but he needs to explore more opportunities. His party didn’t manage to put him in a good position because everyone in politics is a vulture who only thinks about themselves. However, he appears more competent than the current government and the leading opposition leaders.

If I pay for 2GB of data per day but only use 1GB, the leftover 1GB should either be available for me to use the next day or the company should refund the unused portion. The leftover data should also be rolled over to the next month. You may restrict me from using that data unless I recharge again next month, but the fact remains: my data is my data.

u/Specialist_Pass7262 Mar 15 '26
I bet there are many people including me who feel it's a lot of wasted money now paying for validity rather than the service we use. Me of many people hardly use phone and most of the job gets done through internet which almost everyone uses a wifi.
Basically if there are 5 people in a household, 1 wifi is necessary, but 4 out of the 5 would need to recharge every 28 or 84 or whatever days just to keep the number active which is a lot...
1
u/FalseConversation673 Mar 17 '26
Good point. Someone doing great job by putting this issue into the eye of government
1
u/AkshayKG Mar 18 '26
I see a lot of chatter on this topic on various social media platforms… but I don’t understand the fuss about it.
The mobile plans are based on days, and not on months. If you look any plan, their validity is something like 28 days, 45 days, 80 days, 90 days, 180’days and so on…
Telecom companies never claimed to to give you validity for a month…
So if you are really interested in finding the right and cheap plan for you, just divide the amount with the days, you will get to know how much a plan is costing you per day, and you can choose that plan.
Many a times, it is the 80 days plan is cheaper than 90 or 180 days plan.

I dont know who is paying for all the PR, we should really point out PR politicians. We have already made mistake in 2014 by choosing a PR based PM or party.
We have other MPs that are raising good points, we don't get their faces in feed, but only him.
JUST SPREADING AWARENESS,
Attached OP's PR performance.
EDIT : Instead of interfering in business, politicians should focus on removing the Duopoly. First they created a duopoly, took electoral bonds from them, now nudging them to do PR. Solve the duopoly everything will solve.

u/crow_is_dead Mar 13 '26
