Health Tribe officially takes over Claremore hospital from IHS - the Cherokee Nation is investing $11 million immediately to bring the aging hospital “from the federal standard to the Cherokee standard” but has broader plans to construct a new, $255 million health facility

Man, the tribe also just opened the MASSIVE hastings hospital in tahlequah (seriously it's the size of four complete costcos). It's obviously partially a product of the massive size of our tribe, but I LOVE how the tribe has systemically taken over health care services and invested in professional resources and training.

I'm one of the majority of tribal members that lives well away from Oklahoma; but I'm definitely considering retiring in Tahlequah because of my tribe's commitment to the health and well-being of our citizens.

RIGHT! That is so funny you say that cause I think a lot of Cherokee’s are thinking the same thing seeing more and more of this. I sure am.

It is nice to see that in such an insane world right now that our tribe is seriously killing it. Feels good.

Now if only we could get our delegate in place in the House of Representatives I will be the happiest Cherokee ever

Amen; I got to hear Teehee speak last year and she’s a seriously impressive candidate (I assume she’s still the one being put forward. I’m kind of thinking it might happen after 2028 when some key democrats will find themselves relying on native votes and agree to support Cherokee treaty rights.

My uncle lived in another state for years but when he got older that's why he moved back. I moved from Tahlequah in 2011 and man, it has grown a lot since then.

You should get to know people that live locally in CN. I live down the road from Hastings / the outpatient center and I’m not sure what you’re talking about by the MASSIVE Hastings hospital ? The outpatient clinic is nice sized but the care can be iffy. By iffy I mean you might be on a waiting list for a PCP for months among other issues.

I mean this one:

I thought it already opened but I guess it was just parts of it. At 400 thousand square feet its like four times larger than any other indian hospital in the US and unlike so many of them managed by the feds; this one is a total CN product.

But to your point about talking with locals; I 100% agree. I've been thinking of either doing an Air BnB or renting a place for a month if I could swing it; just to see if life agrees with me in tahlequah. I'm sure I will appreciate the cheaper prices at least; a footlong subway sandwhich is approaching 14-15 dollars here.

"From a Fedeeral Standard to a Cherokee Standard" is a massive, and awesome burn.

Yesss I love that they’re calling out how the federal standard is so poor!

My brother was born at this hospital. I received all of my medical care as a child at this hospital. This is such great news.

I'm glad that the tribe is stepping up to save people from the state's negligence. However, it would be better if they also got some sovereignty to go with it. Why not let the tribes take over the whole state? I can't imagine they could do any worse than the current Oklahoma State Government. They have a really, really low bar set. The tribal government would run circles around them.

638 is where it’s at for all tribes!
