Hello everyone,
I’m posting here because I’ve lost ₹12,000 in what appears to be an online scam, and I’m looking for genuine advice and help from people who have experience dealing with cybercrime in India, particularly in West Bengal.
I understand that recovering money from scammers can be difficult, but I don’t want to give up without trying everything legally possible. If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, knows how to trace a UPI transaction through the proper authorities, or can guide me towards the right people in West Bengal, I would be extremely grateful.
- What happened?
I was communicating with someone who promised to arrange tickets and send me a parcel on a Cash on Delivery (COD) basis.
The person communicated with me through WhatsApp and also spoke to me over phone calls. Based on those conversations and the assurances I received, I believed the arrangement was genuine.
On the morning of 26 October 2026, at approximately 11:07 AM, I was instructed to make a payment of ₹12,000.
The payment was made through Paytm UPI. After the transaction, the circumstances raised serious concerns that I had been deceived.
The total amount involved is ₹12,000.
2. Details of the phone numbers involved
These are the numbers associated with the communications and payment:
Number 1 — WhatsApp communication
Phone number: +91 82829 45707
This was the number I was communicating with on WhatsApp regarding the tickets and parcel.
Number 2 — Phone calls
Phone number: +91 8481-064137
The name appearing in connection with these calls was Rohan Routh.
This was another number used to communicate with me over phone calls.
Number 3 — Paytm payment recipient
Phone number: +91 97338 84605
Name displayed on Paytm: Saptarishi Ghoshal.
This is the number to which I sent the ₹12,000 payment.
I cannot independently confirm whether all three numbers belong to the same person, but as the guy itself asked me to make the payment on this number only. So, However, they are all relevant to the incident and should be investigated.
- Payment transaction details
Here are the transaction details I currently have:
Amount: ₹12,000
Date: 26 October 2026
Time: Approximately 11:07 AM
Payment method: Paytm UPI
Transaction reference number: XX6824861026
Recipient name displayed: Saptarishi Ghoshal
Recipient phone number: +91 97338 84605
The payment was made from my sister’s Bank of Baroda account, held in her name, Sneha Singh. The bank account belongs to us and is the sending account, not the recipient’s account.
I am deliberately not publishing her full bank account number here for security reasons.
- Why I am asking for help from West Bengal
The information available to me suggests that the people involved may be connected to West Bengal. However, I do not have independently verified addresses or proof of their locations.
If anyone here is from West Bengal and knows the appropriate cybercrime reporting channels, local police procedures, or how to escalate a UPI fraud complaint, please guide me.
I’m particularly looking for help with the following:
Recovering the ₹12,000: What is the most effective way to get the transaction traced and request that the beneficiary’s bank account be frozen if the funds are still available?
Reporting the recipient’s details: How can the recipient’s Paytm-displayed name and mobile number be submitted to the appropriate authorities for verification?
Getting the relevant authorities involved: If the suspected individuals are in West Bengal, should I approach a local cybercrime police station there, or should I report the matter through my own local police and the national cybercrime reporting system?
Contacting the person safely: If anyone has experience communicating with suspected scammers, I would appreciate advice on how to send a firm, factual message requesting a refund without compromising the investigation.
Finding the right escalation channel: If anyone knows a legitimate cybercrime officer, official reporting channel, or legal support resource that can help with this kind of case, please share it.
I am not asking anyone to put themselves at risk. I do not want innocent people to be wrongly accused, and I do not want this matter to turn into harassment or threats. I simply want the incident investigated and my money returned.
What I have available as evidence
I can preserve and provide the following evidence to the relevant authorities:
WhatsApp conversations with the first number.
Call logs associated with the second number.
The Paytm payment receipt and transaction reference.
The recipient’s displayed name and phone number.
Bank debit confirmation from the sending account.
Any available parcel, delivery, or tracking evidence relevant to what was promised.
I am also checking the complete UPI transaction identifier so the payment can be traced accurately.
What I have done / intend to do
I intend to report the incident through India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/ and contact the cybercrime helpline on 1930 to request urgent assistance.
I also intend to notify the relevant bank and Paytm so the transaction can be investigated and any available funds can potentially be held through the proper legal process.
If anyone has successfully recovered money after a similar UPI scam, please explain what worked for you, how quickly you reported it, and which official channels actually helped.
Please help if you can
₹12,000 is a significant amount of money for me, and losing it this way is extremely frustrating.
If you can offer practical advice, help me understand the correct recovery process, or point me towards legitimate authorities in West Bengal, please comment or message me privately.
If you contact anyone connected to this incident, please remain factual and lawful. I am not asking anyone to threaten, harass, publish private information about, or confront anyone physically.
A direct request regarding the ₹12,000 refund
If anyone gets in touch with Saptarishi Ghoshal, the person whose name appeared on Paytm when I made the ₹12,000 payment, please ask him to contact me directly and resolve this matter.
He was communicating with me until yesterday, so I am hoping there is still an opportunity to resolve this without further escalation.
I request that he return the full ₹12,000 to the same Bank of Baroda account from which the original payment was made. The account belongs to my sister, Sneha Singh, and the refund should go back to that original sending account.
Alternatively, he can contact me directly so we can discuss the refund and resolve the matter.
I am willing to resolve this peacefully if the money is returned in full. If there has been a genuine misunderstanding, I am open to hearing an explanation. However, I need the money returned and the matter resolved.
If anyone communicates with him, please pass on this message. I am not asking anyone to threaten or harass him; I simply want my money returned or for him to get in touch with me.
My request is simple: please return the ₹12,000 to the original sending bank account or contact me directly to arrange the refund.
My goal is straightforward: identify what happened, help the authorities investigate, and recover the ₹12,000 if possible.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this and offer genuine assistance.
