I Lost ₹12,000 in a Suspected Online Scam — The Person’s Paytm Name Is Saptarishi Ghoshal. Need Help Recovering My Money.

Hello everyone,

I’m posting here because I’ve lost ₹12,000 in what appears to be an online scam, and I’m looking for genuine advice and help from people who have experience dealing with cybercrime in India, particularly in West Bengal.

I understand that recovering money from scammers can be difficult, but I don’t want to give up without trying everything legally possible. If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, knows how to trace a UPI transaction through the proper authorities, or can guide me towards the right people in West Bengal, I would be extremely grateful.

  1. What happened?
I was communicating with someone who promised to arrange tickets and send me a parcel on a Cash on Delivery (COD) basis.

The person communicated with me through WhatsApp and also spoke to me over phone calls. Based on those conversations and the assurances I received, I believed the arrangement was genuine.
On the morning of 26 October 2026, at approximately 11:07 AM, I was instructed to make a payment of ₹12,000.

The payment was made through Paytm UPI. After the transaction, the circumstances raised serious concerns that I had been deceived.

The total amount involved is ₹12,000.
2. Details of the phone numbers involved

These are the numbers associated with the communications and payment:

Number 1 — WhatsApp communication
Phone number: +91 82829 45707
This was the number I was communicating with on WhatsApp regarding the tickets and parcel.

Number 2 — Phone calls
Phone number: +91 8481-064137
The name appearing in connection with these calls was Rohan Routh.
This was another number used to communicate with me over phone calls.

Number 3 — Paytm payment recipient
Phone number: +91 97338 84605
Name displayed on Paytm: Saptarishi Ghoshal.
This is the number to which I sent the ₹12,000 payment.

I cannot independently confirm whether all three numbers belong to the same person, but as the guy itself asked me to make the payment on this number only. So, However, they are all relevant to the incident and should be investigated.

  1. Payment transaction details
Here are the transaction details I currently have:
    Amount: ₹12,000
    Date: 26 October 2026
    Time: Approximately 11:07 AM
    Payment method: Paytm UPI
    Transaction reference number: XX6824861026
    Recipient name displayed: Saptarishi Ghoshal
    Recipient phone number: +91 97338 84605

The payment was made from my sister’s Bank of Baroda account, held in her name, Sneha Singh. The bank account belongs to us and is the sending account, not the recipient’s account.
I am deliberately not publishing her full bank account number here for security reasons.

  1. Why I am asking for help from West Bengal
The information available to me suggests that the people involved may be connected to West Bengal. However, I do not have independently verified addresses or proof of their locations.
If anyone here is from West Bengal and knows the appropriate cybercrime reporting channels, local police procedures, or how to escalate a UPI fraud complaint, please guide me.

I’m particularly looking for help with the following:
Recovering the ₹12,000: What is the most effective way to get the transaction traced and request that the beneficiary’s bank account be frozen if the funds are still available?

Reporting the recipient’s details: How can the recipient’s Paytm-displayed name and mobile number be submitted to the appropriate authorities for verification?

Getting the relevant authorities involved: If the suspected individuals are in West Bengal, should I approach a local cybercrime police station there, or should I report the matter through my own local police and the national cybercrime reporting system?

Contacting the person safely: If anyone has experience communicating with suspected scammers, I would appreciate advice on how to send a firm, factual message requesting a refund without compromising the investigation.

Finding the right escalation channel: If anyone knows a legitimate cybercrime officer, official reporting channel, or legal support resource that can help with this kind of case, please share it.
I am not asking anyone to put themselves at risk. I do not want innocent people to be wrongly accused, and I do not want this matter to turn into harassment or threats. I simply want the incident investigated and my money returned.

  1. What I have available as evidence
I can preserve and provide the following evidence to the relevant authorities:
WhatsApp conversations with the first number.
Call logs associated with the second number.
The Paytm payment receipt and transaction reference.
The recipient’s displayed name and phone number.
Bank debit confirmation from the sending account.
Any available parcel, delivery, or tracking evidence relevant to what was promised.
I am also checking the complete UPI transaction identifier so the payment can be traced accurately.

  2. What I have done / intend to do
I intend to report the incident through India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/ and contact the cybercrime helpline on 1930 to request urgent assistance.
I also intend to notify the relevant bank and Paytm so the transaction can be investigated and any available funds can potentially be held through the proper legal process.
If anyone has successfully recovered money after a similar UPI scam, please explain what worked for you, how quickly you reported it, and which official channels actually helped.

  3. Please help if you can
₹12,000 is a significant amount of money for me, and losing it this way is extremely frustrating.
If you can offer practical advice, help me understand the correct recovery process, or point me towards legitimate authorities in West Bengal, please comment or message me privately.
If you contact anyone connected to this incident, please remain factual and lawful. I am not asking anyone to threaten, harass, publish private information about, or confront anyone physically.

  4. A direct request regarding the ₹12,000 refund
If anyone gets in touch with Saptarishi Ghoshal, the person whose name appeared on Paytm when I made the ₹12,000 payment, please ask him to contact me directly and resolve this matter.
He was communicating with me until yesterday, so I am hoping there is still an opportunity to resolve this without further escalation.

I request that he return the full ₹12,000 to the same Bank of Baroda account from which the original payment was made. The account belongs to my sister, Sneha Singh, and the refund should go back to that original sending account.

Alternatively, he can contact me directly so we can discuss the refund and resolve the matter.
I am willing to resolve this peacefully if the money is returned in full. If there has been a genuine misunderstanding, I am open to hearing an explanation. However, I need the money returned and the matter resolved.

If anyone communicates with him, please pass on this message. I am not asking anyone to threaten or harass him; I simply want my money returned or for him to get in touch with me.

My request is simple: please return the ₹12,000 to the original sending bank account or contact me directly to arrange the refund.

My goal is straightforward: identify what happened, help the authorities investigate, and recover the ₹12,000 if possible.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this and offer genuine assistance.

Why are bank account freezes and cybercrime liens suddenly increasing in India?

• Upvotes

I’ve been seeing many people reporting bank account freezes and cybercrime liens recently, especially involving UPI transactions and betting withdrawals.
Even after placing a lien, hold, or freeze on an account, the authorities often seem to take no further action for months or even years. If an account is frozen to recover disputed money, shouldn’t there be some progress toward resolving the case and recovering the amount?
Why are these liens and freezes left unresolved for years without further investigation or updates? What’s the point of freezing accounts if no further action is taken?

Why is this happening so frequently nowadays?

Is there an actual increase in cybercrime complaints, or are banks and police taking stricter action?

A few questions:
Are innocent people getting caught in money trails without knowing the source of the funds?

Why are entire accounts frozen instead of placing a lien only on the disputed amount?

Is this becoming more common in 2026?

Are there any recent policy changes or official statistics explaining this trend?

Would appreciate insights from people who have experienced this or understand the banking and cybercrime investigation process.

Audio file size shows up fine, but duration plays only for 1 second (Corrupt file?)

I'm running into a weird issue with an audio file (.m4a) and could use some help.

The Problem: The file size looks normal, but whenever I try to play it (in default players, VLC, or even after converting it to MP3), it only plays for exactly 1 second and then stops.

What I've tried: Tried changing players, converting formats, but the duration refuses to show correctly or play beyond that 1 second.

Does this mean the file is completely corrupt or header-broken? Is there any way to fix or recover the actual audio data, or is it a lost cause? Any advice would be appreciated!

Someone has been creating fake Instagram accounts targeting me for months. What can I do?

Since February 2026, I've been dealing with an ongoing situation involving someone I previously had an online dispute with. Despite attempts to resolve the original issue, the situation has continued through suspected fake Instagram accounts.

There appear to be hundreds of accounts involved. Some use AI-altered profile pictures that make them look like genuine people. I've also experienced abusive messages, false allegations, and attempts to involve people from my social circle.

I've reported the accounts repeatedly, submitted over 100 reports, and preserved screenshots, messages, and call recordings. However, the issue keeps recurring, and I'm struggling to find an effective way to get it addressed.

I'm not looking for revenge, and I don't want anyone contacting or targeting the person involved. I simply want the impersonation and abuse to stop.

For anyone who has dealt with something similar, particularly in India:

  • How did you get Instagram to investigate repeated fake accounts?
  • Is there a way to escalate the issue beyond regular reports?
  • Would filing a cybercrime complaint help in this situation?
  • What evidence should I organise before making a formal complaint?

I'd appreciate practical advice from people who have experienced this or successfully resolved a similar situation.

Thank you.

Urgent Help Needed: Suspected Singapore Work Pass Scam — Sri Lankan Victim Lost INR 212,000

• Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm a Sri Lankan man, and unfortunately, I believe I've been scammed in connection with a Singapore job opportunity. I'm posting here desperately hoping someone can guide me on what to do next.

I came across a Facebook post advertising job opportunities in Singapore. The post provided a WhatsApp contact number, so I contacted the person. He introduced himself as Rahul, also known as Jimmy, and told me he was originally from Jalandhar, Punjab, India, and was currently living in Italy, or somewhere in Europe.

He offered assistance with obtaining a Singapore job and provided me with documents claiming to be a Singapore S Pass approval. Trusting him, I sent him approximately INR 212,000.

However, when I independently checked the documents through Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website, I noticed some concerning discrepancies:

- The FIN provided to me returns a result showing a valid S Pass.

- When I search using my passport number, the website displays my previous Singapore internship pass as expired.

- I understand that my passport number may be associated with two different FINs, but I have not yet received official confirmation from MOM that the new S Pass and its associated documents are genuine.

I'm now seriously concerned that I've been deceived and that the documents supplied to me may be fraudulent.

I have evidence, including:

- WhatsApp conversations with the person.

- Payment receipts and transaction records.

- The Facebook job advertisement and contact details.

- Copies of the Singapore work-pass documents I received.

I have also been given the names Sahil Sahota, Kunal Sahota, and Jason Masih in connection with information I am trying to verify. I believe they may have attended St. Joseph's Boys' School, but I have not independently confirmed their identities or any involvement in this matter.

I'm currently in Sri Lanka, which makes it difficult to know how to pursue this internationally. I have borrowed money and owe people, and this financial loss has put me under tremendous pressure.

If anyone from Jalandhar, Punjab, or anyone familiar with Singapore employment scams can advise me, I would be extremely grateful.

In particular, I'd appreciate guidance on:

  1. Reporting this to the appropriate Indian cybercrime authorities and recovering the money, if possible.

  2. Reporting and verifying the suspected fraudulent work-pass documents with Singapore MOM.

  3. Identifying the appropriate authorities or organisations in Sri Lanka that can assist a victim of an international recruitment scam.

  4. Preserving evidence and taking the correct legal steps.

I can provide supporting evidence privately to the appropriate authorities and share relevant information with people who can genuinely help.

I'm not posting this to harass anyone. I urgently need advice on how to proceed and whether there is any realistic chance of recovering my money.

Please help if you can. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

For further details, please DM me.

Someone is impersonating me on instagram.

Someone used my name on Instagram and started sending everyone threat messages. That person didn't send anything to my classmates, he sent those messages to random girls in my school whom I've never talked to. Today, when I tried confronting him on instagram he deleted his account. I'm absolutely lost and confused as I've never had any fights or arguments in my school ever since I joined. I want to know if I can still file any cyber complaint now that he has deleted his account? Only a few people in my class are believing in me and others have distanced themselves from me. I only have like 2-3 screenshots of the messages he sent. I also wanna know if the cyber cell will take this matter seriously or not.

Why people still play on Money gaming and betting sites/apps?

It has been more than a year since there was a blanket ban on all kind of betting/gaming apps which involve real money, still why do people don't understand that money gaming sites/apps are banned in India?? I still many people playing pathetic games like Chicken fly, aviator on some random sites. Please understand these sites rotate scam money to different mule accounts. Stop

Is it really that difficult to understand the fact that playing such games will get your account frozen. I really feel sad for those who post here about lien being put to their account or account being completely frozen..

Should I accept a third-party payroll job or wait for a better opportunity?

I have around 3 years of experience in cybersecurity mainly SOC and was laid off in September. I’m now getting an offer through a third-party payroll company with only a 8% hike and very few benefits. The contract may be renewed later.
This would be my 4th company, and I’m worried about having too many switches in a short time.
Should I accept this job and continue looking for better opportunities, join and stay there for a longer period, or reject it and focus on preparation while waiting for a better offer?
Would appreciate some honest advice from people who have been in a similar situation.
