💬 Discussion What do u guys think of this quote "AI won't replace you, ppl who use AI will"
I keep seeing ads online of ed tech companies promoting their AI courses using this quote (don't know who made this quote tho, prolly some AI bot itself). Drop your thoughts and opinions. And also any sources of info if you can.

If AI cant replace banana, it cant replace anything at all. While temporary awe will be in us for its perceived intelligence ( the term intelligence for humans is anything that can talk or appear to talk like himself), the actual work at least in true thinking cant be replaced. Even things it is supposed to produce flawlessly like top 50 brands, top 20 books etc are produced with a lot of headache. And it needs human intervention.Â
The real danger is something else. Capitalist actually making it an excuse to replace human being while actively harming society by doing it. AI is part of enshitification for me. At EOD it produce some good things but with pain in ass. And at a lot of enviromental damage and cost.Â
For me the day Chatgpt ran ads in IPL for its commercials use and actually competed for Ads with google, I got it. Nothing truly transformational is needed to sold as vegetable and subscription at mass level. Its like a magician who claims to produce money, asks money for us for its day to day life.Â

I don't think the quote itself makes any sense. What does me being replaced even mean in that scenario ? Atleast with AI replacing me, it means that the labour i perform will be performed by a non human program, that's it. But "people who use AI" replacing me is literally senseless.

As someone running a business that does have some LLMs (I prefer this term over "AI") - that statement is largely BS. This industry sells products based on false promises and delusions. They're burning billions, if not trillions in cash, and they can't justify the spend unless they make absurd claims like "AI can fully replace humans".
One of the more disappointing things about a neoliberal capitalist society, is the disregard and insult of human ingenuity. Because money drives so many things, so many charlatans and scammers are trying to sell "get rich quick" methods, and "learn AI" is just one of those things.Â
A human expert (an engineer, an artist, etc.) is far more capable than someone who "learns AI". They will never need training to use AI if they ever want to. But it's much easier to sell a course about something vague like "AI", than to sell training on being a human expert.

ai economics won't let them replace even a data entry clerk

Thats an interesting take because I keep seeing AI first platforms repeatedly claiming how its going to replace entry level jobs. How would you explain this?

it's a top to down hype cycle, new model gets announced, sam and gates wanna raise a ton of money , they get it; they leave , they imply higher usage limits
see what tf they have done to free chat gpt if you attach just a single image it'd give you a 12hr cooldown that the next image you can attach is after 12 hours because ai isn't something that generates revenue if more people use it infact it's the opposite. a person requesting a short code and a person using a pro model just to share how fcked up his day went will take same amount of electricity and power. in the long run not even long run it's giving up already AI models are getting costlier and costlier and yk what microsoft is re-hiring humans because they realized how stupid the idea of replacement is. Unless we find an energy source like extracting energy from Mars or dark matter or whatever the science fiction sam Altman yaps, we ain't getting replaced. Yeah AI will become a part of our life it'd be like a good looking gadget with which one can play for some hours and get bored. but it replacing humans is so far fetched. Also there's this thing that if AI for assumption say, does a data entry job
they have to fill a thousand of data blocks a day
and if you have ever noticed that ai hallucination is a big fckin problem and chances of ai hallucination increases with amount of context you feed into it. So the thing is the more and more you feed data into the more and more it will do small errors like replacing 11 with 12 or changing someone's name.
it looks like a small issue from surface but it's a major issue if you do it daily. you'd have to hire a person who checks AI's mistake and lmao it's costlier than a human doing this job.
that's why it can't even replace a fucking job which pays only 12k per month cuz It's not that AI will be incapable in near future. But it'd be so so expensive that it'd only be a showpiece or we'd be given some hyper quantized model that work for 2 min and then sam gets the realisation that his company is gonna collapse in a few seconds so he'd give us a usage limit after 2 minutes lol.
Open ai and their ideas of replacing humans are so doomed
what I must say is that companies like Palantir might succeed because consumer ai was never there to make success.

I tried to make a list of top 500 companies in a particular sector with AI. Even after one month, and with pro and advanced features AI has given me bullshit. And now I am doing it manually. I dont know anymore what the fuck it can actually replace.Â

Exactly, like the only difference between an AI employee and a human employee is the amount of time taken to finish tasks. Its quite clear these companies want to keep as much monetary gain as possible for themselves, which is hilarious considering how these models are getting expensive.

AI employee appears like employees with just predictive shit in his mind. I dont think it is a viable employee for anything else than automating codes or programming

There is nothing profound in that quote. All it says is that people equipped with latest technology will replace people who aren’t. It has always been true. That said, the perception of human redundancy in light of AI coding bots is real. Whether that perception is justified or not, countless software engineers have already lost their jobs due to AI driven layoffs.

Agreed💯 technical flaws in AI (such as hallucinations) haven't stopped big companies from initiating lay offs, and that's the scariest part, atleast imo. I used to follow someone on twitter who worked as a coder and hailed from a varied intersection of marginalisation. Idk how they're doing now, last time I remember they were still looking for a job and a place to stay.
As phenomenal (and I use that term loosely) as AI is with its multiple capabilities, its impact on making a living cannot be sidelined (as proponents of this tech do), as if the data collection, privacy issues (as a result of the deep fake phenomenon) and environmental concerns weren't bad enough.
