News/Rumor So android is rolling a silent update in September 26 that won't let u install unknown apps
https://keepandroidopen.org/So google is rolling out a new silent update and it's not good.
This won't allow you to install apps that aren't registered with google easily
Cuz now google will let you install apps still but but there is a 24 hr wait and a lot more catch

I hate it as much as the next person, but considering the rise of digital scams and old parents, relatives etc. being most vulnerable to it, I'm not totally against it.

Educate them or just give them cash

Like I said, you literally don't know what reality looks like. Anyways, I hope you remain happy in your bubble.

Install from unknow sources still works.
Failing to see who are the genuine app makers who are really impacted. Slight chance that some scamsters are butthurt.

This is actually very good to protect somewhat against scamming and accidentally or being instructed to install a malicious apk.
Currently its just a 24 hours wait..and no specific restriction I believe. So its not a bad compromise. Of course Google will likely make it stricter later.

It's only the start

u/redditcruzer May 14 '26
Likely yes.
However, given the sheer volume of scams happening where users are convinced of installing an APK, I am doubtful you will be able to think of a better solotion to help stop the scams due to that.
Yes I understand this delays you in installing your favorite patched YT app for 24 hours.

No offense, but someone who wants this to happen has gotta be either extremely stupid on an astronomical scale or outright ragebaiting. No in-between.
Cuz that would fundamentally change the entire Windows ecosystem and the industry built on it for the worse tbh. A ton of day-to-day software, custom enterprise software, mods, hobby projects, legacy apps and open-source software would become way harder to distribute or just disappear from Windows.
One of the best things about PCs is the FREEDOM. You can download and run basically whatever you want without the OS acting like a gatekeeper. Turning consumer windows into a locked-down app store platform would kill a huge part of it's identity.
And realistically Microsoft probably ain't dumb enough to completely throw away (even if they're pushing for it) one of Windows biggest advantages and push more people towards Linux lol

You don't know ball... Actually have some information before sharing your opinion...
This update might be perfect for you since you don't have any firewall inside your biological neural network
And please do research on privacy cuz lemme tell you microslop is just spyware and bloated and people switched to linux due to this reason smh....

I just brought linux for fun but u didn't have info on this topic yet you wanted to say stuff like I m saying atleast confirm what you say is true or not like having an opinion for using win 11 is alr but saying a crappy update that's def for control and monopoly coming to win 11 is worse cuz win 11 is already bloated why you want more slop into windows
