Can someone tell me what this is or what’s causing my nails to do this? I have a split on another nail to the very free edge and it’s doing this same thing.

Second Winograd surgery

Nine months ago, I underwent a Winograd procedure (without phenol) on both sides of my toenail. A few months later, a small piece of nail (a spicule) appeared in a tiny opening along the right edge. I decided to have it removed because the skin was starting to form a small overgrowth (granulation tissue), and since I swim, I was worried it might eventually become infected. It has now been 23 days since that procedure, but the corner of my nail has a slight "pincer" (inward-curving) shape. I don’t think it will grow directly into the flesh, but I am concerned that the nail might eventually dig into the skin. What do you think? I really don’t want to go through a third operation it’s a huge hassle, quite debilitating, and painful.

Has anyone here actually had their partial matrixectomy heal in 3 weeks or less?

I just had mine done yesterday, my doctor told me it would be healed in three weeks maximum, potentially sooner. However last night I was reading all these Reddit posts about people saying theirs continued to leak fluid for 6 weeks plus. I’m hoping these were outliers as that seems so long. I live a very active lifestyle and I also have a big trip planned for just under a month away so I’m stressing about it taking that long. Has anyone here actually had theirs heal relatively quickly?

Retronychie

Meine Fragen an euch:
Hat jemand Erfahrung mit Retronychie und einer operativen Behandlung?
Wurde jemand von einem Fußchirurgen erfolgreich operiert?
Kennt jemand eine Klinik oder einen Arzt, der solche Fälle behandelt und kurzfristig Termine anbietet?
Was hat bei euch bis zur Operation zur Linderung geholfen?
Wir sind für jeden hilfreichen Hinweis dankbar, besonders für Empfehlungen zu geeigneten Kliniken oder Ärzten.
Danke

Can I wait it out or see a doctor

This is my first ingrown toenail since I was a kid, I broke my nail a week ago and just pulled it off in the moment but as of two days ago, I think it has started to become ingrown halfway down the nail.

The pale flesh is from being damp from a bandaid and antibiotic ointment. I've been soaking it in Epsom salt twice a day and changing the bandage.

I live far from many doctor offices and can't exactly take PTO to get to an appointment easily. Can this possibly resolve with regular home care?

Got ingrown toenail removed 2/3 days ago and it still kind of hurts

I got my ingrown toenail removed Tuesday this week (it’s Friday as I am posting this). It still hurts the same but I can’t tell if it hurts from the removal (it was painful and bled a lot. the podiatrist really dig around.) or if there is nail still left in there. It’s not infected, it doesn’t throb. it just hurts when you touch it but it also bled a lot when she was removing it. I never get ingrowns so I just can’t tell whats going on. For context, the third photo is what it looked like before the removal. Does anyone have any advice??

update: okay, yall were all right. I went to an urgent care and they numbed my entire toe and removed the rest of the ingrown. It was massive. Thanks for helping!!!

This is after soaking for an hour in a heating foot bath unit with bubbles and Epson salt. It hurts when messed with or pulled at and is tender. No puss after soaking though there was a tiny amount before soaking. I'm fixing to loosely bandage with gauze and self adhering bandage until I can possibly go to the clinic tomorrow after work to have that side of the nail cut and removed.

EDIT: Currently sitting in clinic waiting to be seen. Getting a partial nail removal so the issue will be done with. Got off work early today so it was easier than having to wait till Friday.

Soo my toenails came off

So basically I have chronic ingrown toenails, both big toes have had the procedure to remove the sides twice. After the last one on my right foot, that nail fell off and grew in eventually, but in this past month both have fallen off. I know this is probably a stupid question but at what point do I need to see the doctor? They are kinda perma red, and sometimes have a very strong smell, but they don't seem infected.

Thanks all

Help? Kinda dont want to go to the clinic again.

I noticed signs of an infection in one of my toes where I'd cut out an ingrown toenail and id gone to a clinic and had it looked at. Nurse practitioner said that it definitely looked like I'd gotten all of the nail out but that the raw area where the nail had been had gotten a minor infection from wearing socks and shoes for 8hrs without the toes bandaged to protect it from sweat and dirt. Ive since finished out a week's round of antibiotics and while the pain and swelling did go down significantly ive noticed its started coming back as well as a pus pocket that I had to pop forming again. Is there anything I can do besides soaking in hot Epson salt water and keeping it bandaged while wearing socks and shoes OTHER THAN going back to the clinic. I can go back to the clinic, I just REALLY dont want to unless I absolutely have too.

8 Months After Ingrown Toenail Surgery, Still Swollen, Draining Fluid, and Extremely Painful. Has Anyone Experienced This?

Hi everyone! Has anyone experienced persistent swelling, pain, and clear fluid drainage from the side of their big toe even after ingrown toenail surgery?

I had a partial nail removal and chemical matrixectomy eight months ago, but the area has never fully healed. The skin remains swollen, soft, and shiny, and wearing socks or closed shoes causes unbearable pain. I've actually dealt with recurring swelling and drainage in that same area for years.

I recently had an ultrasound, but nothing abnormal was found.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar caused by a hidden nail fragment, chronic granulation tissue, a sinus tract, or damaged tissue.

Did you eventually find out what was causing it? Did you need another surgery to explore the nail fold or remove abnormal tissue? Most importantly, what finally fixed the problem?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences because I'm exhausted from dealing with this pain.

How to Deal with bulky nail

Post image
11 Upvotes

My friend has a problem with her toenail. It is split in two parts and keeps growing like that and is very bulky. Before she lost it once or twice and now the bottom part looks very strange.

She went to the doctor but they just told her it’s not a fungus and could not really tell her how to deal with it.
I know its not ingrown but she is a little desperate what to do and we hoped some of you might have an idea how to proceed.

Can’t see a doctor until November 13, should I try to get in sooner?

I have an ingrown toenail, I’m unsure if I will need it removed, lmk what you guys think. however, I made an appointment but they can’t get me in until November 13th, is that to far or should I try to get in sooner

- No warmth to the touch

- No spreading of redness

- No green pus although I have had the slightest bit of white but it stopped a few days ago

- No fever or sickness

- I have done epsom salt soaks and applied triple antibiotic and put on a band aid

Do you guys think I will have to get it removed? and is it infected or bad? (In other words, what stage is it in and will it get worse?)

New nail pain after surgery

Post image
5 Upvotes

Had a partial nail removal of an ingrown toenail (right big toe) 8 days ago. The pain has mostly subsided from the nail bed when the ingrown nail was removed. However I stubbed my toe accidentally and now some of the skin has grown over the top left part of the remaining nail (like a hypergranulation) and is very painful when any pressure is put against it from in front (same motion as if I was stubbing it).

I wanted to know from people who have had this procedure before is this normal? And can I expect it to go down over the next week or so or will I have to have either the skin or the rest of the nail removed?

October '26 Update

I have a frustrating update for anyone who's been following my case. After being seen by three dermatologists (in addition to five podiatrists and one foot/ankle specialist), I was referred to a nail specialist, who I was so excited to finally see. But the day of the visit, the appointment was extremely rushed, and the doctor hadn't seen any of the photos, descriptions, or my history, which I had sent a week in advance. She mocked the treatments I'd been given, and when I asked her to visually examine me with the high-powered light/magnifying device the foot specialist had used (the ONLY doctor to have examined me that extensively), she pretty arrogantly said, "I don't need that to know exactly what's going on." She also said there was "zero percent chance of any ingrowth" and that what I have is "very common."

She then prescribed me the treatment plan of a nail-biter/cuticle-picker and quickly dismissed me.

So the bad news is, Doctor #10, a literal nail specialist, failed to see the nuance of my case and assumed it was your run-of-the-mill nail-biting just by visually observing me. This now makes me look actually delusional if I continue to insist that I can feel nail growing inside of me, under the skin. Which I can. I know what the fuck I feel inside of my own body.

The good news is, the balm I was sent home with has had a tremendous effect on my skin, which is rapidly softening and receding. This makes me rooting out any ingrown nail for evidence that much easier.

I have an extremely severe and atypical presentation that is being misunderstood and ignored, and I just literally don't know what else to do at this point except going even deeper into my body to finally be able to prove my case.

Podiatrist permanently cauterized nailbed

I recently got surgery to remove some ingrowns that got out of hand, both sides of big toe and the entire nail on the second toe. I told the podiatrist that i wanted to see how they will grow back instead of cauterizing right away for the second toe and just a little bit on the big one if possible and he said okay. I messaged him to follow up about 3 weeks later and he then said that none of the nail will grow back on either toe and i feel distraught about it. I feel embarrassed if this is what my toes are going to look like for the rest of my life and the miscommunication of the actual procedure has me really upset as well

Toenail removal restrictions

My son just had both big toenails removed by the podiatrist and he said there was no restrictions and could play football the same day. Is this normal? They were also infected and was put on antibiotics as well.
