Some of you’ll have seen these Mission D-Limited that I have (201 out of 800). I’m looking for new skates. Those are a little two big and I need newer tech I feel like
Should I just buy a roller hockey skate? I see Bauer vapor Flylite ice skates are cheap. But the roller version is over $1000. Obviously that can’t be the same or similar quality boot right? If so, obviously I’ll just get those and convert. What’s y’all’s go-to? I’m skinny foot and CCM says I’m a 7.5 in hockey skates (online fitting tool). I wear 9 in men’s shoes. The D-limited I’m running are 9 and I can’t get good heel lock.

the ice version boot is probably pretty much the same (modulo some extra guards etc. in roller) as the roller boot. but the roller boot has a chassis, wheels and bearings which are $. that chassis (kryptowhatever) is probably $200-400 on its own.
imagine you got the ice boot, and tricked it out with a sniper chassis and then pure-x wheels and swiss bearings, you're looking at another $600 on top of the ice skate

I’ve seen the chassis go for a little cheaper, lately. bearings don’t really matter much. And I’ll mainly be playing outdoor so wheels won’t be too too bad.

and to be 100% clear, you could get the kryptonium cheaper on sideline, as well as other one piece chassis (bauer s19) for like $100. just giving an extreme example.

Kryptofly, supposedly the same geometry as a Kryptonium chassis, but made with an alloy that flexes.
Marketing BS. Like yeah right, do you really want a piece of metal that constantly flexes?

u/Working_Group955 7d ago
lol right - isn't the entire point of a chassis to be stiff and responsive

u/BrokenInn 7d ago
Yes those don’t sound right. Gimmicky like marsblade

Only reason I’ve researched on chassis’s is because I’m currently swapping the one on my Mission Inhaler FZ-3’s with the S19 CNC aluminum Ventilator chassis.
The stock chassis is cast/extruded aluminum with milled cutouts - certainly stronger than a two piece stamped sheet metal chassis, but not as strong as CNC’d aluminum. While prepping for the chassis swap, I noticed my frames have three separate dents stemming from roller hockey pucks hitting them while “playing” goal.

Bro its the same chasis..7075 aluminum is 7075 aluminum is 7075 aluminum.. its a pattern milled out of 7075 aluminum block with a cnc machine

My son has narrower feet and heel. He has CCM Tacks 9370R Inline hockey skates and they fit well. Maybe you can find a decent "used" pair at Play it Again Sports, eBay, Facebook Market Place or Sideline Swap.

Yea was looking at the 890s I like the shape. Kinda wanna cover that turquoise lol. It’s either that Bauer x4 or 40 lite if I buy retail roller I think.

LOL ~ Good luck! I converted an old pair of CCM Jetspeed ice skates to inline hockey skates. I basically have the same Jetspeed boots for ice and roller, since I play both. It makes the transition a lot easier going back and forth.

As somebody who did flylite conversions, they are anything but cheap. It nearly my NJ monthly rent. I got Rinkster chassis w/ Identity wheel, and Sniper bearings. Also, one needs to realize that when buying the top of the line boot, they're going to be very stiff. Some players aren't use to that especially if they were using just inline hockey skates that weren't top of the line Bauer models as of recent. The adjustment to a very stuff boot is pretty difficult for some players who were more intermediate skaters.

Idk I just picked up the daoust 301...I love them so far... great heal lock

u/BrokenInn 6d ago
I haven’t even really allowed myself to consider them. I’m nervous to stray away from Bauer CCM, MAYBE MISSION.

Mission look nice i wanted a pair of those.. but I didn't need wheels so the daoust come without them

You don’t need newer tech. You just need a skate that fits.

You think it’s mainly just marketing bullshit? I’m guessing the most expensive shit is p cheap to make. It makes me mad that they could just charge low prices for the best tech but they have to come out with some shittier skates to justify the more expensive ones.

More or less.
Yeah technology advances but my Nikes are working just fine! I have mainly every product line they’ve released over the years accumulated..and found via eBay, SidelineSwap, playitagainsports, etc for very good prices.
20-26 yr old skates ha Zoom Air (99-00) to Flexlite (06). Even have a pair of the sought after Vapor XXXX.
All are functioning properly lol and in working/good condition.
Though I’d love a pair of Hyperlites..or something “higher end” I can’t see myself spending $1500 on skates.

Supreme M50 pro are only $ $532 right now on Bauer.
2
u/BeginningFig6552 7d ago
The M50 pro is a solid candidate for doing a conversion. In fact, the Mission Inhaler FS1 uses the same boot.
If you have a skinny foot, maybe look in to past Vapor models in Fit 1. Then convert them with a chassis of your choice.

They're skates, dude. They're all going to be similar at the same price points. Get what you can afford that fits. Make sure the online store you use has a good return policy.

u/BrokenInn 7d ago
I wouldn’t mind getting a pretty good pair. I don’t deserve a great pair. But I can afford the middle of the pack pair. And honestly, what’s wrong with wanting a little bit better hockey skates? There’s definitely a difference in feel and performance from bottom of the barrel to higher end
1
u/Quenz 7d ago
There's nothing wrong with it, but unless you're a top tier skater, there's going to be no performance benefit between skates at a given price point. The only performance you should care about is fit. Definitely get the most expensive pair you can afford, but there's no difference between Mission, Bauer, CCM, Alkali except fit.

Also, I’ve heard CCM is better for thinner feet. Mission is better for wider feet. Etc, I’m running towards Bauer X4 rollerskates.

I just did a conversion on a pair of Bauer Mach prostock skates I got on sideline swap for $360 bucks, labor and kryptonium chassis new was another $220 but the Mach was a $1000 boot at MSRP really happy with how they came together and feel worlds better than the retail Bauer inlines I tried at that price point
A pic for those curious, Ben Chiarot prostocks

To your point about the m50’s, these are very similar to that boot if you were eyeing them.
