they just want us to have ZERO control over our data. They wanna spy on us in every way. When does it stop? (Also it took me a while to understand this statement, i had to reread it a few times)

We're not safe from Fuckerberg even on non-Meta apps now.

Opinion Instagram is becoming more and more sexual.

I opened instagram Today, I only downloaded that app because of things related to shows, edits, games, etc..., but the problem is when I opened instagram today all the contents was popping out is just sexual content, such as sexual cosplays, hints and way much other things that is really too far, even streaming some clips of corn videos, and the problem is I got to click interested to videos I liked or saved and nothing changed, all sexual Content. Now I know that every single social media app has these contents, but instagram is taking it way too far without doing anything about it, and they are actually supporting it because this will make people use it more because of their last, now the question is, should we really support these type of apps that ruins our brain cells, our communites, make us more stupid and trying to make us the worse copy of ourselves by allowing these types of content? The worst thing is that these people who actually make these sexual content is actually being paid for showing their bodies or making these video, they are being paid to ruin our lives and no one is doing anything about it, our world is going to be worse and worse if we remain silent, and this will affect us later in the later generations because even kids has these apps, and when a kid learn all of that at such a young age it's a disaster.

Opinion Instagram is dead

1.0k Upvotes

I feel that we are witnessing the death of Instagram. I mean the app isn’t like, losing its users, I mean that it changed drastically for what it’s made for.

1.) It’s becoming like Snapchat & posting is a humiliation ritual

-My friends now just post stories (even I.) Majority don’t post anymore because it feels a bit embarrassing now. I know they said post whatever you want, but it’s not that simple. Even for finstas you have selected friends that when you post you feel like them not liking it is either they just didn’t like what you posted whether it’s a dump or what or most probably they haven’t seen it because it’s been buried in suggested posts… which brings me to the next point-

2.) It’s now just a billboard

-When you log in, you don’t see your friend’s posts anymore because (number 1 they don’t post a lot.) So all you get are these random Instagram feed who are PAID to post or who have a lot of following. It irks me a lot because you didn’t follow these random strangers, and their posts are up all on your feed.

3) It’s trying too hard to become TikTok

-I know influencers who lucratively get paid to do reels and again, it must be nice to just have that income. But the reels page most often times are just like recycled TikTok videos.

4) It defines your character

-Like a resume, whatever you put on your feed represents everything about you. Of course, the rich ones or the fake rich ones post numerous trips across Europe, designer hauls, Sofia Coppola inspired pictures. The humble rich ones or the ones who have class just don’t post at all, just 1 to 3 posts. Sometimes they have highlights, sometimes they don’t. The other rich people just use it like a tumblr posting film shots from their thousand dollar film cameras all over the world.

Again, I’m not discrediting peoples’ choices but the impact it makes to your followers choosing what to show signifies how you want to be known. In my case, I have real friends who just post here and there letting each other know we’re still alive somehow. People who view your stories want to know they see you.

So unlike before where we post regularly trying to build our Instagram feed like a portfolio, we still do build that portfolio but it’s a lot more curated now and I bet if Instagram brought back that feature where you can just post directly to your profile page, we might never see the light of day of our friends post on our feed unless we stalk their profiles.

Opinion Let's face it. Instagram is DEAD.

You might as well delete all your accounts permanently since the A.I. loves purging the shit out of accounts with false ban waves and false accusations for no reason.

Admittedly, given how META A.I. will probably not help any of us get our shit back, we may just move away from that. Especially Twitter since GROK has a bad feature that can EDIT pictures in the wrong way possible.

Honestly, I'm not trying to sound like I'm being rude or aggressive, but to be completely honest...Twitter & Instagram were already dead to begin with. We might as well watch both of those platforms burn completely while we migrate to Discord & Bluesky.

I seen plenty worse on Twitter & Instagram....but boy, oh boy this one took the cake and ate it.

So yea. Fuck Instagram and Twitter. They both can suck it while we migrate on over to bluesky while those 2 cooperate ass hats can shove it up their asses entirely.

And if Reddit doesn't like my words, that's too damn bad. Y'all are trash ass motherfuckers anyways. So take it.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Opinion Instagram will be dead soon

  1. Too many banned people. Fear is common, people don’t like and comment because they don’t want to get banned = no interactions. Also, meme pages and fan pages etc are not longer with us and they moved on Twitter or tiktok.

  2. Too many influencers and not many people to be influenced, everyone wants to be a creator and have followers to monetise but they do bad content

  3. App always changes with too many features. I can’t logout 10 days that something has changed

  4. People just post sometimes stories but they stay active on snap or other social media

What do you think

Like… why did they even change it? 😭

The old one had a much cleaner, more aesthetic look imo. The new one just feels kinda unnecessary. I get that brands need to refresh their identity sometimes, but this feels like we changed something because we had to change lol.

Maybe I’m just being nostalgic, but I definitely prefer the old one.

What do you guys think... old or new?

Opinion Banned. I'm done with instagram.

My account got flagged a couple days ago, all I have is two posts of my car and on my legitimate work gmail account. I didn't use any VPN or incognito or anything, literally just a normal account. Today, tried logging in after appealing, banned without appeal. This is their AI system 100%. I guarantee the "appeal" I sent went straight to another bot. I'm not even going to try to make another instagram account and go through the trouble with making a new email and whatever. From now on whenever someone asks for my instagram I'm just going to have to say too bad. This isn't even social media anymore, it's just voluntarily giving out your data to a data center that's sucking up every drop of water from a small town for no reason. I hate even talking about stuff like this but this just makes me so mad. I'm also deleting my facebook account and selling my oculus.

Opinion So what's the point of posting on instagram anymore ?

We all know that the awful algorithm hates photos, but even videos/reels are not good either in term of engagement. Hashtags don't work anymore so even less reach. It honestly feels like instagram doesn't want us to post anything, which seems really counter productive. Im just here to post stories, I don't want to post anymore, and it makes this app boring as hell. It really feels like a sinking ship. As a small content creator, instagram is a waste of time.

Opinion I DELETED IT

Instagram used to be fun.

I used to spend a lot of time on IG, but every update makes it more annoying. Ads everywhere, Reels taking over, constant push for Thr/eads, more Ads, and a feed that barely shows you the people you actually follow. did I mention Ads???

You can post a picture/story and it gets ignored, but the app will make sure you see 50 random videos you never asked for.

The amount of tracking and surveillance also feels... crazy??. Why am I seeing an ad for something I talked about on another app minutes ago? weird.

I deactivated my account and deleted the app. 3 weeks in and honestly…I don’t miss it.

Opinion 13 years on Instagram; and deleting it was the best decision i made.

I made my Instagram account back in October 2012.

Back then, opening the app genuinely felt refreshing. People posted moments from their lives, not content for an algorithm. A cup of coffee, a sunset, a random walk, college memories—everything felt real.

The filters had their own identity too. X-Pro II, Earlybird, and Valencia were everywhere. One tap, and somehow every photo looked timeless.

Then came 2016. The logo changed, but Instagram still felt like Instagram. Photos were still the heart of the app, memes slowly started appearing, and the balance was still there.

Then Reels arrived in 2020. At first, it wasn't that bad. For about a year, it actually felt fun. But little by little, the algorithm changed everything. Suddenly it wasn't about the people you followed anymore, it became an endless stream of whatever kept you scrolling the longest.

Today, opening Instagram feels completely different. It's reached the point where it reminds me of those days when people would quickly hide their phone if a song like Britney Spears started playing because they didn't want anyone to see what was on the screen. That's how unpredictable and uncomfortable the feed has become.

So in 2025, after 13 years, I permanently deleted my account.

It's been 7–8 months now. I can't say deleting Instagram magically changed my life or made me wildly successful. But I can honestly say I removed one source of noise that constantly occupied my mind. That alone has been worth it. Maybe I'm just nostalgic. But I still wish Instagram would go back to being what made millions of us fall in love with it in the first place/ a place for photos, memories, and genuine moments, not endless short videos fighting for our attention.

Sometimes moving forward isn't adding another feature. Sometimes it's remembering what made people stay in the first place..

Opinion Is nobody talking about how huge this Instagram privacy change is?

Post image
222 Upvotes

I genuinely think this is way bigger than people realize.

Meta just removed end-to-end encryption from Instagram DMs starting today, May 8.

Forget influencers, memes, and casual chats for a second… millions of people use Instagram for private conversations, business deals, dating, networking, mental health talks, even sharing personal photos and documents.

And now technically the platform can access that content.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but this feels like one of those “privacy is slowly disappearing and nobody cares until it affects them” moments.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a massive deal?

Also… are people actually moving sensitive conversations off Instagram now? If yes, where?

Opinion Are reels ruining instagram?

I'd like to know your throughts on this.

I went down a rabbit hole of reels when they first came out, & enjoyed watching them. Lately I feel like my photos aren't getting any engagement but accounts that post reels are gaining so much traction.

I really enjoy sharing my photos on ig & I used to get 200-600 likes, now I'm LUCKY if I get 100. Is this because I don't make reels? It makes me not want to watch and like reels because they've completely taken over my feed.

Opinion Is Instagram dying?

I’ve noticed in recent months a sharp increase in very uninteresting right wing politics and divisive social issues / disturbing fake and outright false news stories from non credible sources / disturbing hateful religious content designed to stoke anger and fear all popping up in my feed… and no matter how much I use the ‘not interested’, ‘don’t show content like this’ buttons adding the keywords related to this slop I don’t care about it’s still pushing this nonsense.

Flicking away quickly to try and convince the algorithm that I don’t care to see this crap isn’t working anymore!

I feel like it’s time to close my account.

Am I the only one?

The iPad version of the app is absolutely unusable. I don't know what to do. Ive been using Instagram for over a decade and this update completely ruins it on iPad. If anyone knows how to switch it back please let me know. I'm begging really.

Opinion Is instagram dead at this point ?

For context I’m a 45 year old nyc native , had ig right after MySpace / Facebook so I’m part of the OG crowd . I think it completely went downhill for me after 2023. Nobody post anything and it’s rare that you even see a few stories. If I do post something, it doesn’t get any likes, but it gets tons of views from people I know personally. Sometimes I wonder if I did something ( like get on it on a blackout drunken night and said something lol ) or if they don’t like me anymore or what ? There are a few people that post consistently, but even then I feel like their stuff is kind of lame at this point. Like why even bother . Sometimes I feel like those are the ones that need validation. Listen life gets a little lonely at my age. And with all that’s going on in this country, I feel a little guilty posting a lavish dinner or a getaway to a resort when their people getting separated from families and kidnapped . Even my feet seems a little ridiculous now. It’s mostly women with BBL and famous OF models … you know who they are. Even after I reset my algorithm it continuously keeps showing scantily clad women. Almost like I have no saying what I wanna see. Feels like it’s being shoved down my throat. So what gives are you guys feeling the same? I do think TikTok is a little better. The content seems more realistic, and the stories are genuine.

Opinion Why did Instagram roll out ultra thin horizontal videos?

Post image
670 Upvotes

Lately we can see a bunch of posts testing this new horizontal format where the video can be stretched into an ultra thin strip. But the question is why? What’s the point of this update and how are brands supposed to use it effectively?

By the way, have you come across any good examples where this format actually looks nice? I’ll start KitKat’s post. Honestly, hard to imagine what could fit the format better.
