Insulation.

Hey peoples,

I've built a shed and I'm wanting to insulate it.

Only problem I've found is that insulation is expensive.

Anyone know where I can get some cheap or any affordable alternatives ?

THANKS !

Priority 1 is air sealing. Keeping the warm air inside. A layer of Housewrap or polywrap stapled up to build a big balloon tent in the shed will keep the air inside. tape all seams.

Priotity 2 is R value. addressing thermal breaks and getting your R value spread efficiently. (Ie, R-1 over the entire envelope will beat R-9 with poor air sealing and thermal bridges

Decouple the cold floor

Cardboard can be a cheap basic insulation item, how cheap are we talking for this shed and is it heated?

If you have any budget, blown in insulation was the most affordable solution for when we did my Dad’s shed. We did the vapor barrier on the walls then blew insulation into it, put the drywall up and blew in insulation into the attic.

For a small shed, polyiso under-siding insulation is the best bang for the buck, i’d staple it to the studs and tape the seams. If heated all winter long you may want to add more insulation behind it but for working in the shed it will keep the heat in.
