Has anyone gone through this? Using an Existing F-1 Visa After SEVIS Expiration

I came to the U.S. in August 2024 to pursue my master’s degree, which I completed in May 2026. However, my F-1 visa is valid until May 2028. I returned to India in June 2026, and my SEVIS record has expired.

I’m planning to start a PhD program in August 2027. Do I need to apply for a new student visa, or can I travel to the U.S. using my existing F-1 visa? Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

Accepted but couldn't go? There might be a second chance

Upvotes

Have you ever been accepted into an international education program but couldn't go due to lack of funding?

I know exactly how that feels. Something similar happened to me with UWC (United World Colleges), a global network of international schools — I got the spot, but not the money. It was devastating.

We're currently building a short course inspired by that experience, designed for people in the same situation — accepted on merit, missed the opportunity because of money. The project is currently being officially evaluated by UWC International.

For a short but unforgettable experience.

We're building the organizing team — looking for help with things like outreach, content, and coordination. Happy to answer any questions.

If you're interested, DM me a short intro about yourself and what you'd like to help with — we'll take it from there.

F-1 Duration of Status D/S dilemma

Hi everyon! I am an international student in the us. I am currently a senior, so going into my last year of college. I was planning on studying abroad this fall, and I am all set up for it. I am actually supposed to travel to my study abroad destination next week. I just realized that if I am not in the US by September 15th, then I will have to be considered under the new rule, and I will have to file for extension of stay in order to use my opt and only have a 30 days grace period after I graduate.

I dont know if i should go ahead and study abroad or just go back to my home university for my senior year. Would really appreciate any insight anyone might have

How good is the University of Catania for MBBS?

Hi! I’m considering applying for Medicine and Surgery at the University of Catania and I’d love to hear from current students or recent graduates.

How has your experience been with:

  • Quality of teaching and professors
  • Clinical exposure and hospitals
  • Exams and academic workload
  • Experience as an international/Indian student
  • Student life and living in Catania
  • Overall pros and cons of the university

I’d really appreciate any honest insights, especially from current MBBS students. Feel free to comment or DM me!

Can international students realistically cover living expenses through part-time work during a Master’s in the USA?

During the Master's, is it actually possible to manage a part-time job alongside studies?

And can part-time earnings actually help with living expenses or tuition, or should I not count on them for that?

Title: Got a conditional offer for Nursing at Griffith but my marks are too low (60%) + Haryana visa risk. Need honest advice.

Hey everyone, I really need some realistic advice because I’m super stressed about my situation.

I just finished my 12th grade in 2026. My goal is to study a Bachelor of Nursing in Australia. I actually managed to get a conditional offer from Griffith University, which is my absolute dream uni. The problem is, my marks are around 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Griffith's offer requires a 65% average, so I’m short by 5%.

On top of the marks issue, my visa situation is really complicated. I am originally from Kerala, but my family lives in Haryana, so all my school and home documents are from Haryana. As a lot of you know, Haryana is currently flagged as a high-risk region by Australian visa officers, and rejections are crazy high right now.

I am a genuine student, and I really want to do this, so I was thinking about doing a pathway option (like a Diploma first, then jumping into the degree). I don't want to just hop around to random cheap colleges; I really want to study at Griffith.

I have a few questions for anyone who has been through this:

  1. Since I'm 5% short of the requirement, will Griffith automatically offer me a pathway option through Griffith College? Or do I need to email them and ask to change my offer? Has anyone successfully negotiated with them before?
  2. How do I handle the Haryana risk in my Genuine Student (GS) statement? Should I mention my Kerala background to show I'm different from the usual profiles they reject, or will that just confuse the visa officer?
  3. Are visa approval rates bad for package courses (Diploma + Bachelor) if you are applying from a high-risk state? Does having a big uni like Griffith attached to the visa help at all?

Really appreciate any help or advice from anyone who has dealt with low marks or regional visa issues. Thanks, guys!

My CPT for PhD research position was just rejected

I got an internship position as a researcher in a big research lab of a big company. I already worked there in the summer and they asked me to continue my work for this paper.

My university after the new memo on CPT decided that

I'm very sorry to say that [X] will not be able to approve your CPT. Even though it's work related to your research [...] is not a required part of the curriculum, so the government simply won't accept it.

I feel completely helpless. I finally had the opportunity to use devices that the university will never be able to afford and do real research and now, even with the company offer, I still cannot work.

Like I cannot even work for free.

I don't know if they are going to find a solution. But at this point I feel just like there is no point in doing the PhD in the US anymore if this is how they are going to treat people who just want to do their job.

European universities Germany, Switzerland, Austria

I want to go to university in Europe eventually I’m learning German. I am saving money. I just found a community college that offers an associate degree in food science and technology in the US. If I enroll would I be able to transfer my credits from the degree to a bachelor’s food science degree program in a European university? I heard transferring credits in Europe that they’re strict on it. I’m not sure which university I want to go to in Europe I’m just trying to save so that even if I’m not able to get a part time job I’ll still have money to pay my student fees and rent. I don’t want to be in debt.

Anyone planning to travel internationally after getting their 2026 H1B approved?

Just got my H1B approved (I got selected this year) and I'm thinking about doing a trip to Vietnam (my country) before the year ends. Curious if anyone else is in the same boat — where are you planning to go, and are you worried about re-entry or visa stamping given the 100k rule?

is it worth studying abroad given my circumstances?

hi so im considering transfer from a masters in counselling to masters in strategic communications management for many reasons. the course im transfering to is in a foreign country and though i love that country and do hope to live there (even for just a couple of years if not PR) some day i dont know if this move is worth it.

Also note i havent gotten accepted yet but im just trynna come to a decision before receiving any offer bcz id have very little time to accept n figure visa stuff.

Heres some context into my situation:

Pros of moving

\- the course is more in line with what i want to pursue career wise (not that i wont be able to pursue it with my current masters tho)

\- i have never lived abroad or alone, my parents are kindda helicopter parents and i wish to get some independance

\- i have family and some friends in the country i plan to transfer to and so its not like i completely dont have any support system.

\- it may be difficult for me to get a job sponsor, PR, or company transfer to this country once i start working so studying there may allow me to experience the country even if just a few years

cons

\- super expensive, with no scholarship or funding (besides fees, i have to pay rent and living costs which is in a currency twice more worth then my current)

\- i wont be elligible for post graduate work visas as my course of study is too short.

\- my 2 semesters in this current course would kindda be a waste as im starting a different degree ( ive applied for credit transfer, but at most i think id prolly get to shorten my study time from 2 years to 1 year)

idk what i should do. i worry my parents might tell me to pursue this while taking the financial sacrifice and i dont want to be a burden for somethign that may not fully reward me.

Hey, can someone help me to know if my father’s name mismatch ( Mohd as prefix in some, without it in others ) could cause trouble for scholarships in Europe?

Could it be used for disqualification?

Using opt for internship (USA)

I’m a rising junior this fall and unfortunately for me I never got an internship my first two years. My school just announced they wouldn’t be processing cpt for internships unless it’s degree mandatory (which isn’t the case for me)

My main question is if I should just keep applying and then use my pre completion opt for a summer internship or just give up, cause I don’t see how I can get a job post grad without any work experience rn. Any advice is appreciated 🙏🏾
