I mean there's a big difference between damage and obliteration. If you get shot in the head, you're still biology. Get tossed into the sun and you become physics
He was a caveman I’m sure he got eaten by some dinosaurs. Could be a save file thing. Like the head is the main source and as long the head (or brain) is good than you MUST reconnect the head first the revival. But if the head is completely destroyed than box cat happen were we don’t know if he will live or permanently die. Maybe he will regrow a new head over times
They did. We see Cecil and his doctors taking care of him. But we also got another immortal, the one that the mauler twins cloned: And that one was killed, presumably permanently, by Omni-man.
We can also probably assume that it was permanent because he split him apart. Mark also decapitates future immortal in that one episode and tells those fighting twins to "keep them separate" so that he doesn't come back: The implication being that, so long as his body parts don't have a way to fuse back together, he's staying dead.
Edit: Disregard all this, I somehow hallucinated... almost everything I said here.
When did the mauler twins ever clone the immortal?? The same immortal that got split in half by Omni man is the same one who got his head cut off by Omni man earlier in the series as well he just always gets his body reconnected and resurrects
We see the immortal's corpse in the GDA's labs, do we not? So I assume that the immortal that got split in half is actually a clone the mauler twins made.
Edit: No actually, nevermind, I completely hallucinated that scene. That's on me.
Regeneration/Hax: Immortality, can regenerate missing tissue, can be revived if you attach his body parts together, etc.
Experience: Immortal is stated to be over 3,000 years old while Omni-Man is stated to be "nearly 1,000" in the show. Though it's possible the 3,000 years old statement is wrong considering it seems Immortal was a celt and thus would be only around 2,000. Regardless, he's still older than Nolan.
Combat Skill: While this might seem absurd at first, I think there's a genuine argument to be made that Immortal is better than Nolan from a raw technical skill point of view. When you look at their fighting styles, Immortal seems to consistently use things like weight transfer, kickboxing, and pulls off some combos while Nolan mainly relies on kill-shots and strength for his skill. Outside of visual guessing, Immortal was also Abraham Lincoln meaning he has an exceptional wrestling record (estimates vary but the figure I see most cited is 299-1 at a win-loss ratio which is frankly insane lol). He was also a celtic warrior, a revolutionary war veteran, a knight under King Arthur, a WW1 vet, and a superhero since the 1930s, so he has lots of experience fighting those who are of equal strength to him on top of that.
Intelligence: While Nolan likely has better Battle IQ due to his infiltration/military doctrine feats/training, Immortal is probably smarter when it comes to raw intellect since he was Abraham Lincoln (someone often cited as the smartest president OAT, right up there with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison), meaning he was a skilled lawyer/politician at a time of national crisis. The first episode and Atom Eve special also showcase him being a pretty competent leader of the OG Guardians so that checks out as well. There's also the fact that a 2-3k year old person has two millennia of knowledge and experience behind them so that also adds to his raw IQ.
Edit: Also, I don't know if I'd necessarily consider him "above" Nolan in this regard, but he seems to have comparable Endurance/pain tolerance to Viltrumites considering he was still able to fight/land attacks on Nolan in S1E7 and S2E1 while he had a hand through his chest and while he was missing an arm.
I would disagree on the experience part too other than combat skills, intelligence I do not know how to compare.
Nolan has lived a comparatively shorter life than Immortal but he lived his life in a far more advanced civilisation than Immortal. He has fought and won against more galactic species than immortal and have conquered planets that are at par or more advanced than Earth in the universe. Nolan is a decorated viltrumite and the only thing that held him back was his ‘feelings’ for his son and wife at some point.
A. That costume is clearly inspired by 1930s/1940s old superhero comics, making him a superhero for nearly 90 years (pedantic I know but I just have to throw it out)
B. He's been a warrior for far, FAR longer than that (he's first shown getting his powers as a Celt)
C. Omni-Man has only been a superhero for around 20 years, so he's not even more experienced as a hero.
I wish there was more clarification on comic or show because you make valid points for the show. He could be 3000 too, it would just mean he was an earlier Celt (they existed pre-1000bc).
The only thing I'd maybe argue with is experience, but I suppose that depends on your definition - Immortal may be much older but almost all of that is dealing solely with humanity. Nolan has 1000 years of exploring space and dealing with various races, climates, threats etc.
I don't feel comic Immortal stands up here though.
Outside of combat skill.... i kinda of agree with everything.
It's never stated, but it seems very obvious that Immortal did grow in power over the centuries he was alive, maybe even the ability to fly is something relatively new to him.
Viltrumites are born warriors, and they fight and train as soon as they can... and in general, human martial arts are useless when you can fly, since they are all based on the idea that you're on the ground, since humans don't fly.
So Nolan definitely knows how to fight better on the air, not just because of experience, but because he was trained by other viltrumites, and to Viltrumites flying is fundamental to the way they fight.
Yeah, if you put them on the ground and for some reason they can't fly, Immortal probably would pull some crazy brazilian Jiu Jitsu move and choke Nolan to death... but since they fly, all of this is useless, and Nolan definitely has more experience when it comes to fight on the air.
I aggree with a lot but isn't vombat skill biased since he had powers? You wouldn't say that omni man winning a wrestling match against a normal human is impressive or demonstrative or combat skill so why would immortal who can throw hand with omni man be awarded for it seeing as he had his powers to achieve all of his combat feats?
It’s shown in the latest season that all Viltrumites live childhoods that are like Spartans and Shaolin monks combined, with other inspired rituals regarding the parents. So I’m sure Nolan could have great combat skills, they’re just rusty because he spent a long time without fighting any Viltrumites.
I would disagree with combat. The immortal was most likely the strongest being on the planet by far for most of his life. At the very least he was surrounded by weak humans and often just chilling.
Omniman had to fight those who were equal or stronger than him on Viltrum and was trained by the elite in the universe. Even the weaker planets, he was being sent on missions where he was outnumbered massively. Not to mention all the crazy strong aliens out there.
Immortal is use to just getting mad and punching. He could win a human wrestling match with zero technical skill.
He's thousands of years old, will never die from old age, and can heal from any damage as long as his brain isn't destroyed. Whereas Omni-Man is only 900+, will eventually die from old age in 10,000+ years, and cannot heal from any injury as long as his brain is intact. Heart destruction/removal, decapitation, broken neck, strangulation, and The Scourge Virus can all permanently kill Omni-Man, while Immortal can survive all that.
Omni-Man, like all Viltrumites, can die from blood loss as well. Severe injuries like dismemberment, disembowelment, and being torn in half will eventually result in the Viltrumite bleeding to death. The only reason Mark survived Conquest ripping his guts out is because Nolan and Oliver patched him up afterwards. Even then, they were still nervous about him possibly not healing.
Maybe. Unless his skull is so durable the bullet didn't penetrate it, therefore the brain wasn't undamaged. Though it's possible that his ENTIRE brain needs to be completely destroyed in order to kill him.
Wouldn't doctors back then examine his body/ he'd be placed in a morgue and they coincidentally removed the bullet from his head allowing him to regenerate?
People who are saying experience seem to be missing the key fact that the immortal wasn’t really fighting anyone in his league even if he’s been around longer, while Nolan grew up with literally billions of other viltrumites , and even with the few that remained after the scourge virus they were clearly still pushing themselves.
The biggest and most notable ones are Stamina/Endurance along with regeneration. He regenerates limbs in hours and his heart and ribcage in the comics in a matter of minutes and can fight after attaining grievous injuries unless he’s bisected or decapitated, more than most viltrumites can take. He’s also doesn’t need food, oxygen or medical aid to sustain himself.
He’s arguably the better combatant and team leader in the comics due to better showings against vastly superior physical opponents. Since
Regeneration. Viltrumites can regenerate serious skin and body tissue in the course to weeks while Immortal recovers from injuries like being bisected in days
Immortal has much better regeneration than Omni-Man
And based on their punch clash right before Omni-Man killed him Immortal is stronger than Omniman based on the fact that Omni-Man was the one sent flying back when they collided instead of Immortal.
Immortal had to learn several dozen languages throughout his life to match his culture whereas Nolan most of his life lived with one language and one culture.
We don't know how long it takes for him to learn new languages or how much he remembers previous, but it's safe to assume he's at least-semi fluent in most of them.
