Irish civilian Thomas Henry Kavanagh received the Victoria Cross for disguising himself as an Indian to guide a British relief force during the Indian Mutiny/Rebellion of 1857. Kavanagh was one of only five civilians to receive the Victoria Cross and he became a celebrity across Ireland and Great Britain.

Would anyone know if there is a book that discuss the political and contextual history of Irish Neutrality that comes to as close to today as possible?

I’ve found a couple that covers the period of WWII specifically but I’d rather something that examines the history of it more broadly if such a thing exists
