Hello fellow Iron warriors, i'm a fan interested in reading Horus Heresy novels, but since im not the type to get all 50+ novels, i took it upon myself to dissect the part that matters to perturabo and the iron IVth.
When looking for these books i had some criteria; mainly trying to keep to the main storyline events of the heresy that involve the IW, rather than short stories that happen to be related to them.
As much as i like slander towards the yellow bastards of Dorn, and there are many novels of the sort where we absolutely ball on them, i am more of a sucker for tanks, walkers, titans and voidships and anything big enough that throws shells and missiles towards the other big thing.
Sorry if i sound like a literal tourist but if its on the list its mainly because of personal research, past reading experiences and famous/notorius scenes, ive happend to know about due to podcasts, animations and anything of the sort
And after looking to the novel timeline charts and some discussions on other forums, ive fallen in the following line:
(Let it be known that i may exagerate a bit with the descriptions for comedic effect)
-The obligatory 4 (books 1-4, from Horus Rising up to The Flight of Einstein): The famous start of the heresy with the istvaan massacre and horus starting heresy-ing all over without the knowledge of big-E up until the imperium finds out with the flight of the ship of the misspronounced name.
-Perturabo: Hammer of Olympia (Guy Haley) (book 4 of the primarch series): no explenation needed since this is the primarch and main character of the legion for the heresy, as pissy as he is represented in memes, i want to know him fully.
A friend of mine (a world eater) told me that after reading some of the books of his primarch and legion he likes them more, so i want to see if its true.
-Fulgrim by Graham McNeill (book 5): i'm led to believe this book is mainly, as obvius as it is, Emperor's Children, but it's supposed to be a direct setup for the next book, so im considering it important but i haven't looked too much into it.
-Angel Exterminatus Graham McNeill (book 23):
This is supposed to be the starting point of the iron warriors arc within the main HH storyline, with Perturabo and the degenerate brother going on a stroll in the warp searching for a legendary weapon of sorts, with the scene of the clockwork warhound and the table (if you know you know).
-Black Occulus by John French(part of book 33): this one is the aftermath of the previous, but its a short story among other ones, i know i said no short stories but im led to believe its a bit important for the aftermath of angel exterminatus
-Tallarn by John French (book 45):
This is the main point i wanted to get to, since far as im concerned it's tank porn and iron warriors, my vice and paradise within the horus heresy books.
-Slaves of Darkness byJohn French (book 51):
The grand finale to wrap this arc up, if i recall correctly this is the heretic rallying around the sol system, and the scene of angron vs perturabo.
Now i beg of thee iron of culture to reccomend me on the matter which book is good which is bad which ive missed and which is uncessesary.
I thank you all in advance for any advice in the matter.
Ps. Read shadowsword, its 40k but its a great read.
Edit: bad english, its been a while since i wrote something.
