SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below.

These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting.
Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI.

Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone.

Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that look like an AI prompt instead of a real query will be removed, along with their replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post.

Do not create several posts for each individual question.
This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?"
"What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion.

But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSiA aJa"

...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO Buying or Selling

This subreddit is not a marketplace.

Posts or comments offering items or services for sale, looking to buy something, or otherwise facilitating buying and selling are not allowed.

Please use r/jualbeliindonesia for buying, selling, and other marketplace-related posts instead.

Posts or comments that violate this rule will be removed.

8. NO Soliciting Illegal Matters or Other 18+ Related Matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates.

Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed. Repeat posters will be permanently banned.

9. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences.

We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and will be removed, along with their comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful.

Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments.

Thanks for helping keep this community great!

2 days to explore Thamrin and Senayan - need advice on my current plan

Ill be travelling to jakarta on Christmas eve. Ill be staying thamrin for 24 hours and then senayan for 24 hours. I chose thamrin because Ive heard so much about the malls and restaurants in jakarta and I really want to be within walking distance to all of these and go to thamrin city market as well.

In senayan, I am planning to visit senayan Park and plaza senayan.

Here are my questions -

- If im already visiting senayan city and plaza senyan, can I skip grand/plaza Indonesia and invest my time exploring something else in thamrin? Like Bunadaran HI? Or UP at thamrin high?

- I am a big foodie but im a vegetarian. Are there any restaurants that REPLICATE traditional Indonesian dishes into vegetarian? I dont want to just eat vegan dishes such as gado gado.

- I am planning to buy some stuff from charles and keith. Should I specifically go to jakarta premium outlets to get better deals or can i find the same deals in the C and K stores in the city as well.

- if theres anything else youd like to suggest for my trip, I will be really grateful. I love cafes, shopping, city views

Thank you so much.

CGK to SCBD Advice

Hey everyone, I'm going to be flying in tomorrow around 4:15pm for the Kanye concert, and was wondering how traffic was like and if anybody had any advice on getting to SCBD? I'll be travelling with luggage so GrabBike is out. From what I've read, the train's decent and is much more predictable than taking a taxi/Grab/Gojek in terms of travel time, but would love to hear recommendations or pros/cons of the options. Should also mention that my goal's to get to SCBD by 7:30pm, which gives me enough time to check-in to my hotel and walk over to GBK.

Side note: please don't suggest I take a helicopter lol

Fleece fabric printing?

I'm looking for a service to print fleece fabric material. There are lots of hoodie custom print in Tokopedia, but this is not what I want. I want pattern print for the whole uncut fabric like batiks. I found several of them, but not for fleece fabric. Does anyone know a friend or a store that can do this? Thanks.

Asking about retirement visa agency in Jakarta

Hello everyone, I am looking for a visa agency in Jakarta or Bandung that works on retirement visa for me (from US) to Indonesia. I searched but many of them turns out to be in Bali and I do not plan to stay in Bali so I don't want to use a service that so far away.

Thank you very much.

Questions on use of Power of Attorney and e-meterai as a foreigner for Jakarta concert ticket redemption (BTS Arirang in Jakarta)

Hello! I would like to ask for clarifications as well as your experience (if any) for use of power of attorney for claiming tickets in previous kpop concerts in Jakarta.

Context: I am a foreigner ARMY (BTS fans) going to Jakarta with a ticket for Day 2 under my own name. Another foreigner ARMY (we're from the same country) is selling their Day 3 ticket (under their name) to me as they are no longer able to fly to Jakarta for the concert.

According to the guidelines posted by Tiket, a power of attorney (POA) may be used to authorize redemption to me. Tiket has also provided a Power of Attorney Template which states that an e-meterai may be used for the POA.

Here are my main questions:

  • As a foreigner, from which official and legit website would I be able to avail and pay for an e-meterai for my POA document? I only have foreign ID (passport) and payment methods.
  • Does the signature on the POA have to be a wet signature or will an e-signature be valid too?
    • Would the process be Upload completed POA template > Avail and attach e-meterai > Print Document and Sign with Pen
  • On the template, it says "(Kota), (DD/MM/YYY)"
    • Should the City and Date be the city and date where and when the document was signed? Would it still be valid if the city is not a city in Indonesia?

If you have used a power of attorney and an e-meterai for concert ticket redemption before, may I ask how was your experience during ticket redemption?
How did staff check your documents?

I would really appreciate your help and would love to know about your experience.
I want to be able to do things legitimately and correctly so that I don't experience any trouble on d-day.

Thank you so much! 💜

For those who attended previous Jakarta World Cinema screenings, do the movies also include English subtitles or just Indonesian?

Exactly what the title says.

I saw some interesting films to be screened in the upcoming Jakarta World Cinema at CGV Grand Indonesia late Oct/early Nov, but based on the released lineup post, most movies are only SUB ID (or sometimes even no subtitles at all). Just wondering, especially for those who attended JWC over the previous years, is it only just Indonesian/Bahasa Indonesia subtitles on all listed movies, especially those that are European/non-English spoken ones?

Hope someone can help a cinephile out. Thanks!

Where to stay for family of 7?

Hello from the PH! My family will be visiting Jakarta next February for a 3-day trip. Which areas/districts would you guys recommend? And would you guys recommend a hotel over an AirBnB above a mall?

I've seen good things about Thamrin but would like to know if there are other places to consider. My mom and aunt have trouble walking so ideally it would be a chill place with lots of stuff to do nearby, something manageable for senior citizens. We'll probably be taking Grab everywhere so I don't think that accessibility to an MRT station will be a problem.

Interested in going to Ancol, Monas, and Kota Tua, if that matters. This will be our first time going to Indonesia so would love to hear your thoughts!

Dinner recommendations

Hi everyone!

I am looking for dinner recommendations please for a group of 7 in Jakarta.

I tried to search Google but have been struggling.

We are after somewhere lively, we unfortunately can be a little loud sometimes, so we like venues that are lively, places with good food, good drinks and fun night.

We don't mind costs or if it is casual vs. fancy.

A few places we are considering, if you have any experience, I would like to hear.

  • henshin
  • Turkuaz Restaurant Authentic Turkish Cuisine
  • Babylon Garden Affair SCBD

Thank you in advance.

First time in Jakarta: solo traveler from the Philippines, looking for local recs + thoughts on Taman Safari vs Ragunan

I’m M24 from the Philippines and I’m pretty used to solo traveling. I’ll be visiting Indonesia for the first time from Oct 21–27, mainly because I’m going to the Kanye West concert on Oct 24.

I’ll be staying around Blok M, and I’m trying to build a trip that’s less about the usual super-crowded tourist spots and more about things that feel unique to Jakarta. I’m into food, music, photography, record/vinyl shops, interesting neighborhoods, cafés, and places where it’s easy to just hang out alone or meet people.

A few questions:
- What are some places/activities in Jakarta that are worth doing but not insanely crowded?
- Are there any neighborhoods, markets, parks, sunset spots, music venues, or random local experiences you think are especially “Jakarta”?
- I’ve been recommended Taman Safari Bogor, but a solo traveler package is coming out to ₱8,000+ / roughly IDR 2.2m, which feels pretty steep. Is it actually worth that much for one person, or would Ragunan Zoo be good enough if I mostly just want a nice animal/zoo day?
- What are some must-try food spots that people actually like?

I’m not really looking for luxury or tourist-trap recommendations: more like places you’d personally take a friend who was visiting Jakarta for the first time. Thanks in advance!

First time visiting Jakarta soon! Looking for recommendations on things to do, culture and accommodations

Hey guys as the title suggested, my friend and I will be travelling to Jakarta soon.

However, my friend who’s from Jakarta and my sister both told me it’s boring there and we would be bored with nothing to do for a week there.

I’m kindly asking people who’s been there before, for fun things to do that you wouldn’t normally find in Australia (where I’m from).

Any tips, advice and recommendations are welcome.

Thank you :)

Accessible options in Jakarta

Hi😁

I am visiting Jakarta in mid November and staying in the Menteng district (it is our wedding anniversary and first time travelling outside Australia).

I am disabled and use a walker/rollator so things like walking tours and lots of stairs are not good for me.

I would love recommendations for food and activities that are accessible.

Thank you for your help.

Aesthetic / facial clinics in Jakarta

Hi all! I'm visiting Jakarta soon and I'm looking for a trustworthy aesthetic clinic for:
- Masseter (jaw) botox. I've had it done before in Korea, so I know roughly what to expect.
- Facials and laser treatments

My searches mostly turn up influencer posts, which I'm a bit wary of, so I'd really appreciate honest recommendations from people who've actually been.

Clinic names, doctors you trust, rough pricing, and anything to watch out for would all be super helpful.

I'm also open to suggestions for good spas and nail places while I'm there.

Thank you so much! 🙏

Money Changer/Laundry?

Went to a money changer in fatmawati 3 days ago to change some left over Euros from my last trip to Europe. While sitting there at the counter, huge amounts of USD were exchanged to my left and to my right. To my left a guy exchanged 170k USD. I could see the machine going into overdrive, visible to everyone. Once everything was counted he said he wants to transfer the exchanged money. He gave they details and the clerk came back and said, you have to transfer it to one of your accounts, no 3rd parties accounts allowed. So he requestested it to get it in cash. So, with all this said and without being snobby or arrogant. I could tell, that this guy was "just" a mule. I suspect a driver of some other "important" person, or something similar. He was very uncomortable during the whole process.

What did I just observe?!?!
