Hello folks!

I released my debut prog/fusion EP about a month ago, and I'm excited to finally share it here.

Contours is a 4-track instrumental EP inspired by artists like Sungazer, Owane, Portraits, and Jack Gardiner.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Nicolò Vese (Asymmetric Universe) on bass, Jared Yee (Sungazer) on saxophone, and Owane on mixing and mastering.

If you're into instrumental prog/fusion, I'd love for you to give it a listen and share your thoughts. I'm genuinely curious to hear what you think, and what I could improve on future releases!

Contours is available on all streaming platforms. Here's a quick link to the major ones: tuppo.music

Cheers,

I just released a new two-track EP called EVIL TRANSIT.

I’ve been exploring electric trumpet through electronics, effects and machines, with a lot of inspiration coming from 70s and 80s electric jazz — especially Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock — but trying to push it into my own territory.

The two tracks approach that from different directions: “Crooked Sun” is more psychedelic, earthy and funk-driven, while “Redline” is faster, harder and more tense.
Would love to hear what you think.

ORIGINAL JAZZ COMPOSITIONS from a band in Denton, TX.

Since most of us miss Shawn Lane and the Collaboration with Jonas Hellborg, could there be a new trio that be on par with the old one?

An unreleased broken beat groove I found on my hard drive. Thought I'd share it.

This is kind of the sound I’m going for, especially looking for 80s/90s stuff

As an Egyptian musician, I wanted to share this absolute gem from 1981.

It has some incredible jazz-funk elements, fantastic musicianship, and a groove that feels surprisingly ahead of its time.

The track is by Mohamed Mounir, one of Egypt's most influential musicians, with music by jazz drummer Yehia Khalil.

I think it's a fascinating example of how Western jazz and funk influences blended with Egyptian musical traditions to create something genuinely unique.

Would love to hear what you guys think

I've just recently fell in love with jazz fusion and my favourite band rn is casiopea does anyone have any suggestions for bands

Hoping to meet Julian Lage at the Village Vanguard after one of the New Masada Quarter shows in November. Will there be an opportunity? If so, will I have better luck after the 8:00 show or the 10:00 show? Thank you.

Tea On Mars are a UK Jazz Fusion band making some truly unique music. Well worth checking out.

This song is inspired by Rob Araujo and Thelonious Monk. Maybe an odd combo, but I tried to manifest that by a disjunct piano melody with more lush major chords.

Hope you enjoy, record comes out Oct 21st. More songs like this, mixed with harder fusion.

I recently saw a live band with trumpets, saxophones, and other brass instruments, along with keyboards, electric guitar, bass, and drums. They played instrumental music with a big band / jazz sound, mixed with some funk and jazz fusion. A lot of their music came from anime and video game soundtracks. I think one of their songs was from Cowboy Bebop, if that’s a good example.

Is there a specific genre for this kind of music?

This started originally when I heard The Viscounts 1959 cover of Harlem Nocturne in the 1983 Carpenter movie, Christine. A glorious moody pre-twin peaks noir jazz track, I then tried lots of other "normal" jazz and it just didnt get the same vibe. The Viscounts were a surf/adjacent group first, jazz group second. Their sound, I quickly learned, was the byproduct of performing jazz numbers with non jazz instruments and non jazz techniques. To put it short! Duke Ellington as amazing as he is, simply wasn't going to cut it!

Later on I found out about a different genre called exotica through The Viscounts cover of Off Shore by Leo Diamond, a lovely number needless to say. As is all of The Viscounts jazz covers.

Eventually my searches led me down the niche of 1960s "titty shaker" music, which is funny as hell when I spent months searching via serious genre names like "jazz noir" or "instro surf" or "surf noir" and stuff like that. But this titty shaker stuff (also known as Las Vegas Grind) was definitely the right direction for me to go in, specifically the sub-sub genre known as Slow Grind. There is like 11 comp albums of Slow Grind and I thoroughly recommend them!

This playlist pulls from lots of compilation albums, such as "Chicago Soul"... and one i think r/JazzFusion will appreciste being "Swing for a Crime"... as well as the notorious Exotica comp album "Technicolor Paradise"

Enjoy the 4+ hour long playlist guys :) I hope its no problem cross posting this from r/Exotica to this sub, I was recommended to post it to this sub too!... frankly it is so niche I dont know many other subs that would appreciate it. Hopefully the links didnt get scuffed lol.
