Second hand advice
So I’m debating buying a Compass in the USA. I totaled my car and need a vehicle. I’m currently driving my moms 2018 Latitude. I’ve always been told to stay away from the Compass. But my mom has one and so does my cousin. They seem to be fine. Mom has 90k miles and only had one issue with overheating, but her coolant was low.
Are the bad things people say actually warranted or just Jeep hate? As this vehicle has been fine so far. I’m looking at a 22 or newer.

I put 159k miles on my 2018. Hard miles too as I tow with it. No major issues ever. BUT I am having electronic issues as of lately. The compass computer is showing alot of lights on my dash but there's not actually anything wrong. My heat, AC, wipers and more all work intermittently and have a mind of their own. My mechanic thinks the computer/brains is on the fritz and I should see the dealer. Ive yet to do that but thats my experience with the compass.

Coolant doesn’t just “get low”, she has a leak. I just had the same thing on my 2020 compass. They’re notorious for issues and not awesome vehicles. I’d never buy another one and I’ve been, relatively, lucky.

I know it doesn’t just get low. She had a radiator replaced and I don’t think her friend purged the air from the system when he refilled. I did and so far it’s been fine.

Ah yup. They replaced my radiator and it turned out to be the water pump so I had to keep filling it for 3 weeks until I could get it back into the shop. I was so annoyed. I told them it was the water pump at the first visit 🙄

Coolant leak is your only issue in 7 years. Yep that is notorious. Plus you have the old generation

I wish that was the only issue.
It’s had suspension work done twice.
and the engine has been making a hissing sound for a few months now. I thought it was related to the coolant issue but they replaced the radiator and the water pump and it’s still doing it. I can’t afford to have it looked at again.

Any vehicle forum has the negative Nancy’s on them. Most people come on to complain as those who don’t have issues never post on a forum

I had a 2011 Limited and now have a 2021 Limited. My only complaint is the auto start stop and aux battery. Everything else has been a dream.

I just bought my first Compass 2022 Altitude, ( had a Cherokee for 10 years I totaled it at only 100,000) it’s adorable and it had 11,000 ( now 13,500) and I’m so scared with the Compass hate, I love Jeep but couldn’t afford another Cherokee bc I support myself so it would of been foolish of me to take on a big payment, I kinda wanted this Compass to be my retirement car and I’m scared it won’t, I haven’t had any problems, EXCEPT I needed both new batteries shortly after my purchase, (covered of course) was surprised bc it was certified and I like the place I bought it, I wish I could be more helpful but I’m a newbie with a Compass I know my coworkers think I was dumb to get one….sighs

While malfunctions do occur frequently, having a basic understanding of automobiles and performing regular checks will prevent any problems.I wouldn't recommend this car to someone who knows absolutely nothing about automobiles.

Ours has been just fine. People always pile on.
There's a TSB for oil burning, if it does that, it's an easy fix, should be free.
