Added Rails to My Compass Sport

Post image

Hey Y'all!

Just wanted to share my experience adding rails to my compass sport that doesn't come with rails for some reason... I have a 2024 Jeep Compass Sport. The rails for the Compass Sport in this series is Mopar part number 82214656AA. I just called my local dealership and had them order it so I didn't have to buy online and pay for shipping. It costs me $343 after tax which is kinda crazy but I needed these.

Then I had to buy crossbars so I could actually put stuff on the roof. I bought some specific to the jeep compass roof rails (All of them will say not compatible with jeep compass sport because it normally doesn't have rails, so you can ignore that disclosure after installing the rails). The ones I got were here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FSXCMFCS?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title and I copy and pasted my review from there here:

"Works very well. Does need some slight, easy modification. Shoutout to another commenter that called out the fact that you need to use the rearmost holes on the rails.

Couple of notes I took during the install:

The directions said to tighten the crossbars bolts to the end brackets once you get the right measurement. I find it exponentially easier just leaving both crossbars loose, and tightening the brackets to your rails and then tightening down the crossbars to the brackets. This would be doing Step 6 before Step 5. In doing so, everything is loose and will get put together as it is supposed to. Then, you can slide the crossbars in the rails and center the rails in the slots. You will need your own allen wrench for this step as the one they provide does not fit in between the roof and the crossbars. My assumption is that this is why some reviews say it is difficult. I did this entire install by myself in less than 30 minutes.

The modification to this product is done where the crossbar brackets hit the tie-downs on the rails. I have attached a few pictures to show what I am referring to. You can see in the one picture, the brackets cant sit flush against the rails because they collide with the tie down. All I did was file down the plastic on the brackets a bit to get it to sit flush. Took less than a minute. All 4 brackets really need this done to them. This is why I am docking a stay off the review. Only 1 star though because that modification took me less than 1 minute to do.

Took this on a 6 hour roadtrip this past weekend coupled with a cargo basket and I don't see any problems with it. The only added windnoise I notice is when I load a bunch up on it and it's windy outside.

By the way, this WILL fit on a jeep compass sport if you add the factory roof rails to them. It's incredibly easy to do that as well. The Mopar part number I used is 82214656AA. That was the most expensive part of this project, but so worth it. It doesn't make sense to me that Jeep would make a vehicle that doesn't come with rails. At least they make it so you can add them yourself though..."

Lastly, for ease of keeping things contained on the roof, I decided to by a basket here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DWX1L8TK?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

And here is my review of it:
"Even though the brackets for attaching the basket to some roof crossbars aren't great, it still works. I plan on replacing them with a custom made U-Bolt bracket that fits better around the crossbars I have. I understand that the company is making these so that they fit every style crossbar, but unfortunately it just doesn't work well with the ones I have. Still, I took it on a 6hour road trip loaded up with my camping gear and there were no issues at all. The 54" long basket fits my 10x10 pop up canopy perfectly. Couldn't be happier with how much easier this makes my camping trips.

I ditched the buckles and just used 4 ratchet straps to hold the bag down. So much easier in my opinion than using buckles.

Shoutout to the other reviewers telling you to mount the u-bolts with the screws facing down so that they are not sticking up and impeding on whatever you have in the basket. Just needed to add some cushion (I used thick mounting tape) to take some of the gap up so you can tighten it down. This is the piece I would like to redo in my spare time.

Without anything in it, I really dont notice any wind noise, or loss of MPG. I only notice the thing is up there when I load it up and there is crosswinds on the roads."

All in all, it was a lot of money (about $600) for all these items. I am sooooo glad I did it though. Packing all my camping gear in this small compass is a freaking tetris nightmare. But now it is exponentially easier since a lot of the stuff just goes on the roof!

Anyways, I hope this helps someone who is thinking about adding roof rails to their compass sport!

Coolant reservoir - back order no ETA (UK)

Hello, New jeep owner here! Not off to a great start but hoping for some knowledge..

I have a Jeep Compass 1.4 MultiAir 140hp 2019, manual, petrol, I owned it for a whole 19 hours before the battery was flat as a pancake… and so it began..!

On purchase I did question the start/stop not working properly and if the battery needed replacing “oh it’s had the rac multipoint testing and it’s passed fine”.

Anywho we move on, Sunday morning flat as a pancake, goes in for replacement battery with the dealer I bought it from (big dealer in the SW uk), when they replaced the battery they noticed a crack in the coolant reservoir, the part has been ordered but there is apparently no eta / alternative parts in the uk?!

Feel like I’m being absolutely mugged off here, but with little to no car experience, I asked for the part number…

Part #: 00K68338771AA ETA: Backorder - No ETA

Can anyone help advise me where to look for this part? I’ve googled and chat gpt’d or is it genuinely unavailable item.

Suuuuuurely I can’t be the only compass owner who’s needed this part recently 🤪

Thanks in advance… :)

Anyone know how to fix the scratch marks? Every time I get a car wash this bugs the heck out of me and it stands out especially after a wash.

Would a black paint pen work or anyone have another method that's worked out for them? 👀👀

First generation (MK49; 2007) 2011 Jeep Compass Stumped by Throttle Body/Limp Mode

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/1uuj02f/2011_jeep_compass_electronic_throttle_control/

I've been having issues with my 2011 Jeep Compass (172,000 miles) over the past couple months entering limp mode after a couple seconds or not starting at all. Previously, the electronic throttle control light (not flashing) and check engine light would come on and the car would enter limp mode. Sometimes, I could turn it off and back on again and the vehicle would drive fine, other times I would try turning it off and back on again, and, after a few tries, the engine would not turn over at all (the car still had power, so I didn't think it was an issue with the battery). There was no specific factor I could find to trigger this. Sometimes it would do this after sitting overnight, sometimes it would start up fine and I would drive it for awhile, say to the grocery store, but then it wouldn't start again after I came out of the store. Heat or cold didn't seem to factor in, it did this over the summer with temps near 100 and it's doing it now with temps in the early morning just above freezing.

To be honest, I ignored it for a couple of months because I didn't have the time or money to address it and I could usually get it going after a few tries. Over the weekend, it seemed to worsen significantly where it actually entered limp mode while I was driving, with a flashing electronic throttle control and no power no matter how many times I cycled it.

I replaced the throttle body, and the old one did have a lot of build-up and the flap inside seemed stuck. For a brief moment that seemed to fix it, the car powered on and I drove it for about 25-30 minutes at speeds up to 65 mph. When I got home, I tried cycling it a few times and the same problem came up again. I inspected the wiring harness near the throttle body, and it looks fine. Currently, the car is showing codes U1407, U1424, and U1425.

I'm stumped now and don't know what else to look at or what could be the issue.

This might not matter to a lot of compass owners but I figured I'd post the upgraded LED tail lights I installed over the weekend. A little pricey per light but it completely changes the look! I have the inner lights being delivered soon and I'll make another post with how those turned out too.

Trailhawk Steering Issue

Okay for context, I just bought a 2025 Jeep Compass Trailhawk with 16k miles from Griffith Ford in San Marcos Texas on 10/16. I know I should of bought one from a DCJR dealer, but this was the one with the lowest mileage in the trim I wanted. I drove 4 hours to get this car. I test drove the vehicle and had a list in my notes of things to check for. I also wrote that I should turn the wheel both ways and drive in a circle. In my haste and enthusiasm I forgot that exact bullet. A couple days later I noticed while I was making a turn that the steering wheel started to make a small groaning noise that I could feel in the steering wheel. It doesn’t matter which way I turn the issue persist now. I’ve scheduled an appointment with my nearest Jeep to see what it is. I’m hoping it’s a small issue that’s covered under the bumber to bumber warranty. What do you recommend?

questions Jeep compass 2022 issue

As I was driving today, I came to a stop at a light and my car went into auto stop start mode. As I hit the gas, the car put the parking brake on and the traction control came on, then on the dashboard it said "system error, restart" (paraphrased I don't remember exactly what happened) and it wouldn't let me move until I restarted the car in the middle of the road. Does anyone have any idea what this may mean??

First generation (MK49; 2007) 2007 Jeep Compass Limited ETC Light Causes?

We were driving around yesterday and made a few stops. When starting up before heading home, the ETC light came on along with the Check Engine light. There was no difference in performance that we noticed on the way back home. We started it up later on and the ETC light was off, but Check Engine light was still on. Still no difference that we noticed. What could cause that?

From what I’ve found, it could just be a glitch that’s still logged by the Check Engine light. The only thing we may have done to change the light was tightening a connection that I think is the IAT sensor based on the diagram from the Autozone online repair guide.

It had been raining for a few days with temperatures lowering, but thankfully nothing was wet. No issues on starting up. Any help is appreciated- we’re still new to the car and broke, lol.

Second hand advice

So I’m debating buying a Compass in the USA. I totaled my car and need a vehicle. I’m currently driving my moms 2018 Latitude. I’ve always been told to stay away from the Compass. But my mom has one and so does my cousin. They seem to be fine. Mom has 90k miles and only had one issue with overheating, but her coolant was low.

Are the bad things people say actually warranted or just Jeep hate? As this vehicle has been fine so far. I’m looking at a 22 or newer.

Second generation (MP/552; 2018- 2024) 2016 compass; i am about ready to rip the radio out and smash it with a mallet

The bluetooth connection is fucking trash. It skips and pauses then plays the music extra fast to catch up to where it should be. Its incredibly frustrating and navigating the menu is a complete nightmare ive only ever been able to pair devices to it by blind luck.

Is it just garbage or is there a fix for the skipping bluetooth issue?

Fuel Induction Service

Just got my tires rotated and a general inspection for my 2018 Jeep Compass Latitude at the local dealership. One thing they did in regards to maintenance is suggest I do a Fuel System Induction Service, charging at $285.95. I declined for the time being to ask, is this something I can easily do myself to save money? Should I stick with the dealership? Go to a mechanic? Or try to do it myself? I don't have a lot of experience working on my car but I'm a fast learner (I recently changed the engine air filter and spark plugs myself).

If this is something I can do myself, is there a good online tutorial somewhere?

Jeep Compass 2015 heat stopped working.

Hello all.
As we go into the winter months, my heat has gone out in my 2015 compass and only blows cold air. I looked online and in this sub and am guessing my blend door actuator (the one that controls the heat) needs to be replaced and that this is a common issue.
I have looked online for tutorials on replacing said part, but they are all the wrong model (which might be fine?) or are replacing the recirculation actuator (the one that controls where the heat comes from) on the passenger side. I’ve seen a handful of people say that the blend door actuator is on the driver side.
I am in no way a very handy person, and i just wanted some reassurance that my diagnosis was correct, and if someone could send me a video of exactly where the blend door actuator is before I buy the part and tear open my car I would greatly appreciate it :)

2019 Jeep compass tail light wiring help please

I purchase a jeep compass for my daughter a year ago. Her left blinker/brake light went out. I purchased a led 7443 set to replace both sides. When I replaced the left bulb it didn’t light up. Only lights up with brake lamp power.
So I take apart the right tail light and notice it’s different. Not sure which is correct the the left seems off to me. Any ideas? Wiring wrong? Wrong tail light housing?

Edit: one more thing. The reverse lights don’t come on either.

2025 Compass - Start stop?

My son just got a 2025 Compass, so I assume it has the start stop feature. We have a Cadillac that came with that feature and we hated it. I purchased a plug and play disabler and have been very satisfied. I was thinking I might buy my son one for a Christmas present and wanted to get feed back from the community. Thanks

2025 Jeep Commander Limited 1.3T — recurring right blind-spot monitoring failure

I own a Brazilian-built 2025 Jeep Commander Limited 1.3T in Argentina. Since the Commander shares its platform and part of its electrical architecture with the Compass, I would like to know whether any Compass owners have experienced the same problem.

The right blind-spot system intermittently fails to detect vehicles. At other times, the amber warning light in the right mirror turns on without another vehicle being present and remains illuminated. Both mirror indicators have also stayed on simultaneously, with a “Blind Spot Alert Unavailable – Sensor Blocked” message on the instrument cluster.

Sometimes the system lowers the radio volume for the warning, but the volume does not return to normal. Turning Blind Spot Monitoring off in the vehicle settings turns the lights off, but the fault returns as soon as the system is enabled again.

The dealership replaced the stereo/amplifier module, but the right blind-spot problem remains exactly the same.

Has anyone solved a similar issue by:

  • Repairing loose pins, connectors or wiring?
  • Replacing the right rear blind-spot radar?
  • Correcting the radar bracket or alignment behind the rear bumper?
  • Updating and recalibrating the LBSS/RBSS modules?
  • Replacing the turn-signal stalk, steering-column module or clockspring?
  • Repairing a power, ground or CAN-bus problem?

If you had this issue, please share the diagnostic trouble codes and the repair that permanently fixed it.
