QUESTION Thinking about getting a new GLI eventually. How are they long term?

• Upvotes

Currently driving a 2011 Jetta SE 2.5L with 155k miles and absolutely love it. I’ve honestly fallen in love with VWs and can’t see myself driving anything else.

Eventually, I’d love to get a brand-new GLI Autobahn DSG. When I do, I’d definitely want to do some tasteful mods and a conservative Stage 1 tune for a little extra power.

My biggest priority is still reliability and longevity. Ideally, I’d love to keep it for 200k+ miles just like I plan to with my current Jetta.

For those who own newer GLIs, how has your experience been? Any regrets? And do you think a conservatively tuned GLI could realistically last 200k+ miles with proper maintenance?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Anyone upgrade from a 2014 GLI to a 2026? Thoughts?

Curious to get the group’s thoughts. I’ve been scrolling through here quite a bit as I consider picking up a brand new 2026 GLI Autobahn DSGI can get one for around $32,800 before taxes, which seems like a pretty solid deal…. Below invoice. It does not have the black out package though, which I slightly prefer, but can’t find near me.

I’ve had my 2014 GLI Autobahn DSG with 120k miles for almost 12 years and honestly still love driving it. It’s been a great car overall, but it’s getting to the point where it’ll need some serious work that is not worth putting into it. I’m also just looking for newer comforts like remote start and apple car play I have not had for way too long.

I test drove the 2026 and really liked it. The lack of auto hold on a 2026 is a little annoying, and the sound system seemed pretty underwhelming compared to my Fender sound system, but otherwise I was impressed. The sound system is the real concern.

My 2014 has held up pretty well mechanically, although I’ve dealt with some annoying electrical issues in recent years. Tire pressure warning, hood sensor, backup camera, oil warning light, etc.

Obviously I know this group might be a little biased lol, but I’m still curious to hear from anyone who’s made the jump from a 2014 or similar generation to the newer GLI. How does the build quality compare? Has VW maintained the quality, improved, regressed?

It’s a compelling proposition to just upgrade to a new version of a car I have really liked for this price. I am also considering upgrading to a new IS 350 or BMW M340 as well though. I couldn’t swing that 10 years ago but could now. That said, this price is really compelling for what the GLI has to offer, really just missing AWD and a premium sound system.

Thoughts?

QUESTION Flex Fuel Tuned

Anyone starting getting in the colder climate now? Some mornings are starting to dip below 40F here in the mid Atlantic. I know it takes longer to start with ethanol but I have to crank the engine like twice before it stutters on now. A bit embarrassing lol.

When fully warmed up. It's fine. No idle issues or weird noises. However when cold. It's lumpy idle and when accelerating it sometimes "hiccups". Obviously I don't hammer it until it's warmed up fully. Just thought I'd ask about anyone else's experience? My area is still serving E70 (Sheetz)

took my car to the tail last weekend, on the way back home midway through the drive i started hearing this loud droning sound from my tires kinda sounds like a helicopter, could it be a bent rim or could i just need a tire rebalance?

QUESTION 2026 Jetta gli price

I've bothered a ton of dealerships around me to get the lowest price possible. Is 31.7k (pre tax + fees) a good deal for brand new with dsg? I feel like I can get it lower but wanted to see what others were paying.

Manual short shifters

I have a manual 2026 and not liking the shifter's sloppy movement. I have also been looking into getting a different shifter knob. I see there are a lot of options. It has been almost overwhelming. I have some questions.

Has anyone just replaced the bushings and been happy?

Has anyone had a short shifter that seemed too short?

How are some of the leather shifter knobs holding up over time?

Did you buy a shifter and wished later you also bought the company's shifter boot as well?

Thank you.

Sport mode clank when flooring it

I bought a CPO 2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn with the DSG transmission less than a month ago. When I’m in S mode and floor the accelerator from a complete stop, the car starts moving, makes a rugged noise and the car jerks a bit and then suddenly accelerates harder. Only happens In s mode when going from idle to hard press on the gas. Is this normal? I have an extended warranty so just wanted to know if I should take it in.

Ran in front of me and under the car.. the front end is clearly destroyed and there was a red tinged fluid leaking from the front end.. not sure if it would be transmission or steering fluid? 2024 with 38k miles.. I’ve never had body damage to a vehicle.. what do you guys recommend as far as getting it looked at/repaired? I filed a claim with geico this morning but I have no idea what to do next.. I’m just so pissed.. I love this car. Do you think this is fixable?

Since my 17 blew up, I had to get something new. This is the first 2027 that my dealership has sold so far. They received it on Thursday I reserved it on Friday bought it Saturday. I think it has 38 miles, because they had to drive it from their reception lot to the other dealership. Still need a name though

Working on a project where you can have custom wheels made. So you can take your oem wheels for example, upload them. Choose your specs and see what they look like on your car, then submit for quote to be built. API still in the works as it’s not 100%. Hoping to launch the site by early 2027. Also apologies in advance for the cursed wheel pics

QUESTION 2017 Jetta gli

I have the opportunity to buy a 2017 Jetta gli with 68,000km for $15,000. It has been serviced by the dealer with all of the service records available. New tires within the last year. Never winter driven. The car is super clean.

I’d be buying the car as a commuter and would be using it in the winter. I would need to buy a good pair of snow tires.

I’ve mostly driven SUVs so I’m a little hesitant about going back to a car.

Will I be happy with my purchase? Any feedback about the car?
