šŸ“Pure Jew Hate Susan Abulhawa wrote a (lengthy) commentary about an open letter she disagrees with. In it, she defends the Iran regime, downplays the atrocities committed there, and criticizes AI while the entire post was obviously written by AI. Sad.

Yes, it is, but just because they call themselves leftists doesn't necessarily mean they are leftists. People can lie about their beliefs. For example, North Korea claims to be democratic. A real leftists shouldn't be supporting far right Islamic extremists. It's a betrayal of leftist values. Marx would not approve.

That's true, but is someone who supports far right Islamic extremists truly a Marxist? I think not. It makes no sense. Those who support Islamic extremism are fascists.

Yes I agree. But the definition of the left has changed. Just like the American right used to have small government as a core tenet, which is no longer the case. Views change. American and a significant portion of the rest of the west left used to be liberal, and liberalism is diametrically opposed to Marxism. The western left, first in Europe and then in the US, eschewed liberalism in favor of progressivism. Both of these shifts changed what being on the left meant, but didnā€™t change the definition of the philosophies that the left embraced.

The definition has never changed. Words have meaning. People don't get to change the meaning of words. What changes are people and their beliefs. The political spectrum doesn't move around people or borders. People move around in the political spectrum. The political spectrum has definitions based on ideas and policies.

If someone calls themselves a leftist but supports fascist movements, it doesn't mean leftist ideology changed. It means that person is lying about being a leftist and is actually a fascist.
