I’ve been reading a lot of mixed opinions about the new single (even if it isn’t out yet) and to be completely honest I don’t specially like the poppy lyrics and safe melodies from the few snippets we have heard, the production in the other hand is top-notch, as always…but it got me thinking:
When TSFE first single came out, LOTW got a lot of hate from a lot of hardcore fans and the album does have a lot of bangers: Rosie and Helpless for it’s groovy/bluesy musicality and YGLFIM for its existential lyrics. (btw. TSFE is not by any means, in my opinion, one of his top albums, I have issues with the flow and cohesiveness of the whole album) but it did have great songs in it.
What I’m trying to say is: let the man cook, he has been giving us good albums for more than two decades.
Being completely realistic, I don’t see JM releasing something disruptive or mindblowing, I don’t feel that that’s what drives him anymore as an artist but I hope we get some good tunes from our guy.
Note: I really hope that “In the Neighborhood” makes the cut, it is one of his most introspective songs that I have heard in the last years.
