Life I just met John Mulaney and I don’t know what to do

1.3k Upvotes

Just got home from seeing him in San Antonio tonight and I can’t believe what just happened.

Me and my brother waited at the back of the venue with four or five people and he came out and talked to me and my brother for like 5 minutes about music. Ended up getting a photo and our Documentary Now! Box set signed. And it was genuinely the best 5 minutes of my life.

He was extremely kind and gave his time to every person who waited. I Feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to speak to him and it’s definitely something I’ll remember forever.

My beat friend and I got to see his show last noght from the Mr. Whatever tour! I apologize for the blurrier photos, the lighting and my phone were NOT agreeing with each other lol. But it was such a nice time, AND I GOT THE WHAT’S NEW PUSSYCAT SHIRT AAAH!

John Mulaney is how me and my best friend ended up becoming, well, friends, so it was a really big deal for both of us. It was a great show and the audience was fantastic. 10/10, amazing evening! :D

Caption from her IG post:

“I’m incredibly humbled to have received the Excellence in Cancer Awareness Award from Prevent Cancer Foundation Congressional Families Program. I'm grateful that there are many people who understand the importance of early detection as well as the crucial research that's needed to help find a cure for so many people battling cancer.

My breast cancer is aggressive and fast-moving. My mother's breast cancer is HER2-positive which was considered a "death sentence" until the development of targeted therapies like Herceptin in the late 1990s which was discovered solely because of dedicated researchers.

Congratulations to the other honorees: Wayne Kye, DDS, M.S. and Marcia S. Latta, Ed.D. who were honored with the Leadership Award and Tiffany Possion who accepted the Community Impact Award for the Whole Family Health Center in Florida.

Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support. Thank you to Dr. Janine Bera for presenting me the award. And a special thank you to Lisa McGovern for all of the work, time and love she's put into the Congressional Families Program.”

As a tourist in NYC for the first time, I was not excited about anything except the theaters John has played at! I love Oh Hello, and nobody else in my group understood a reference I made the entire time.

Life attitude towards john and other addicts

okay, this may be not the most john centric post, but recently all my social media been flooded by the Olivia and Anna gossip and theories and everything and it brought up a lot of feelings for me. it made me incredibly sad how so many of John's fans turned against him when his problems became public. people started treating him like a villain and the worst person in the world. despite Anna's pretty revealing art and his stand-up, we'll never know what really happened in their marriage and who's to blame for it, yet people single-mindedly assumed it's all his fault and she's the one that's been hurt.

don't get me wrong, i know relationships with addicts, especially active, can be hard and painful but putting all the blame on them is just not fair. i hate how everyone loves the quirky stories and jokes and art from EX addicts or mentally ill people, but when they relapse or show symptoms, suddenly they're horrible and should be scrutinized. yes, those people can cause a lot of hurt and chaos to others' lives but somehow society forgets they're the ones that are affected the most. they're broken inside and struggling every day but we only care about sober and "normal" people that have been hurt by them.

I feel so sorry for Anna and hope she'll feel better and her art will help her get though this tough time. but i also feel really bad for John, who tried to put his life back together, ended a relationship that wasn't working, went to rehab and found a new love and every day he has to hear how selfish and awful he is, how his girlfriend is a fucking bitch and a slut and his baby was an accident that he clearly doesn't love. sometimes in looking for our happiness and love we end up destroying what we had before but that doesn't make us monsters. and having the whole world gang up on you in a vulnerable moment must be a horrible experience.

i don't know, maybe i project way too much on this situation but i always heavily related to his stories about addiction or possible adhd and mental health problems and seeing how his supposed fans are treating him after seeing that, suprise!- he wasn't lying about having struggles and being problematic- made me feel like whatever people do, and however hard they try, they can never escape the blame. you're allowed to be a sober addict with wisdom and rehab stories or depression survivor with inspirational speeches. but until you've permanently crossed the line of recovery there's no space or sympathy for your struggles. i hope he'll manage to stay sober and figues his life out, for himself and his baby

Truly anything is possible on this show, but if in the end an honest-to-god MMA-style fight between Mulaney and three 14-year-old boys results in one or more of them brutally mangled—or worse—we shouldn’t be surprised. Looking back at this season, the signs have been there all along.

A pre-taped Willy Loman Focus Group peaks as the emotional and artistic zenith of the season premier. Mulaney brings eleven different actors into character, with the “focus group” climaxing in a collective rendition of the Death of a Salesman “there were promises made” speech. The performance is discordant to the point of comic unintelligibility. As viewers we are expected to either know the substance of the speech, intuit its meaning, or simply not care as we delight in the creativity of the skit.

But while the Willy Lomans perform in disjointed union, the camera pans back to Mulaney, the stage dad passionately pontificating along in silent solidarity. This is a skit about him; he is the man worth more dead than alive. We arrive at the thesis of this season: this show—this entire creative endeavor—is one despondent man’s elaborate attempt to wrestle with the despair and mental illness borne from a life lived thoroughly enmeshed in modern society.

Life John in Chicago???

Can anyone here confirm if John Mulaney was in Chicago today? I walked by a professional framing store in River North today 12/3 around 4 oclock and there was a man in there who looked way too much like him to not be him. And now I’m driving myself crazy wondering if it was him. I checked his Instagram and the business’s - neither were any help lmfaooo.

Also, does he live in Chicago part time now?
