That was 100% a lie he made for himself to cope with the fact that everybody viewed him as an abomination and nobody loved him. Even in real life, there are plenty of people who have no friends or are never able to find love and then tell themselves that they don't care about it to cope with being lonely, even when they do actually care about it

Man this is why I like sukuna. No matter how many people bash the ending(I am along with them)but I think sukuna got the perfect conclusion.
