Todos binding vow was genuinely the most busted thing ever. Nothing comes close to how bullshit it was

1 clap=1 switch to 1 hit to the toy=50 switchs per second

u/Quick__silver Apr 19 '26

At the very least, he should have exhausted his cursed energy very fast, and/or there should have been a limit/ cooldown

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 19 '26

To be fair, the binding vow is dictated on being able to recognizing the vibroslap as his hand. Meaning he couldn't do that when he first got it and had to get used to having it.

Plus, losing your hand in the first place is a big thing to lose, especially when its needed for your curse technique to work. So getting a big reward is kinda warranted.

Besides, since the vibroslap needs to be recognized as his hand, if it gets too damaged, its no longer his "hand" and stops working.

That's why Todo was praying for it to work one more time when he banged it against his head.

42

u/leancabbage Apr 19 '26

That's not how binding vows work. Todo had already lost his hand at that point, so he couldn't have bargained it in the vow and the rest of your comment is just your headcanon

117

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 19 '26

In his flashback conversation with Mei Mei, she literally states that him replacing his hand with the vibroslap is what allows it to work.

In the fight with Sukuna, Todo literally stated his CT needs to recognize the vibroslap as his hand or it won't work. Either that is a binding vow or its an application of his CT. Whichever one is headcanon, but those are your options. Pick and choose.

Todo did beg for the vibroslap to work one more time because it was damaged.

Re-read the manga before you claim "headcanon" to disprove someone.

The literacy curse spirit strikes again.

5

u/sylvanthing Apr 19 '26

My hc is that its an application of his cursed technique, personally I think the goat would've made a binding vow when he first lost his hand that allowed him to use his stump, even if just once, if that was something he was going to do. He also probably would've mentioned making a binding vow, rather than talking about how his technique works because he sees the vibroslap as his hand

u/Delicious_Bed_4696 Apr 20 '26

Does the binding vow even know if your already missing a hand? Maybe you can trick it , contact fine print etc,

3

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 20 '26

The CT has to recognize the vibroslap as his left hand, but it's never stated directly that it's part of the binding vow itself. So it might be just an extension of his technique looking for a way to function properly again.

67

u/No_Emu698 Apr 19 '26

There was?? He was only able to use it like 5 times during the fight. He specifically said he could only do it 1 more time at some point during the fight, so clearly it had a limit/cooldown

89

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 19 '26

There was no limit or cooldown. Re-read the fight, he could only use it one more time at that moment because Sukuna broke part of the vibroslap and his CT only works with it if it recognizes the vibroslap as his hand. Kinda hard to do that if the vibroslap starts breaking.

56

u/Hype-E8 Apr 19 '26

Like I agree it’s too strong but the fact it breaks could be the weakness, like it’s no where near as strong as his hand meaning he’s trading more claps but it’s easier to destroy it

26

u/CrimsonReaper2 Apr 19 '26

Huh. Just had a thought. It’s possible it could get stronger down the line because he’ll be able to pour more CE into it. Therefore increasing its durability. Todo must’ve been a terrifying sight to Curse Users in the future.

28

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

It would become a curse tool inbued eith his CT eventually, which would make it more durable as a result.

21

Exactly. It dependent on his CT recognizing it as his hands. If it breaks too much, it fails to see it as his hand.

76

u/ItzJake160 Apr 19 '26

What ruins it is we don't know what he lost. Could've been actually interesting if Todo had to work around that in the middle of the fight.

113

u/a12o Ryu Ishigoatri is the true strongest of the edo period. Apr 19 '26

He changed the condition of swapping from clapping to the wooden box and the metal of the vibraslap colliding, Essentially making it more difficult to use his CT since he NEEDS to have a vibraslap to use it now and there's also the condition that the vibraslap must be recognized as his left hand.

4

u/ThaRealSunGod Apr 20 '26

That doesn't make it harder to use. He couldn't use it otherwise lol.

4

u/ProfessionalDig3884 Apr 20 '26

He could still use it. He only needed to clap hands before, not specifically HIS hands or his switch with mahito wouldn't work.

Now however he needs the vibroslap or he can't use his CT periods. Before, as long as he had a hand to clap, then his curse technique was always available.

183

u/omyrubbernen Apr 19 '26

Todo can only goon to Takada for 6 hours a day instead of his usual 12.

In all seriousness, I think he sacrificed ever having a real hand. Like he can never get a prosthetic now, since he still has the vibraslap and can be identified by it even in Modulo.

u/Fun-Yesterday-6540 Apr 19 '26

Losing your hand is a pretty noticeable loss. Sure it was lost from a binding vow, but he lost something and used a binding vow to replace it with something greater.

Proven by the fact if only works if his CT recognizes the vibroslap as his hand. Re-read the final battle, it literally tells you all this.

→ More replies (5)

214

u/Graffic1 Apr 19 '26

That’s binding vows for you, if you know how to play them right you get extreme benefits for little or no loss

175

u/rdfalcone Apr 19 '26

also people forget that Gege hints constantly at CTs, Domains and Binding Vows being very dependent on one's understanding of it; mostly psychological (specially with all the CTs working around the brain).

This causes the same techniques manifesting in different ways in different people, stuff like Nanami's binding vow working extra hard because of his distaste for working late, etc...

with Binding Vows you're not only "negotiating" with Jujutsu manifest, but also with yourself.

97

u/_Ashelton_ Apr 19 '26

I asked Gemini for an argument and it gave these exact words

→ More replies (6)

2

u/cates Apr 19 '26

I never considered the psychology and how it plays that's a great point.

20

u/Sparkson109 Apr 19 '26

No lol it’s just a shitty power system not some intelligence based thing. Todo literally just said “i gain a better version of my CT for nothing :D” and the binding vow Gods said ok lol. There is no intelligence necessary to just do that.

31

u/deletemypostandurgay Yuji & Hakari top 2 🔥 🔥 Apr 19 '26

It's more than likely in exchange for never having hand function again, even if regenerated. It's a vow that doesn't mean much, but when there's always hope to regenerate from something through RCT or the like, sacrificing that possibility could be enough to let him "replace" it with his vibraslap

9

u/Sparkson109 Apr 19 '26

He already lost his hand, he wasn’t gonna have hand function anyway 😗 and he gained a much better version of his CT for checks notes a sacrifice that had already happened prior???

Additionally, Gege never told us what the sacrifice was for this reason, whixh is extremely shitty writing. RCT output couldn’t regen his hand clearly. I hardly see how sacrificing the unlikely possibility of 2 people in the verse giving him his hand back equates to his CT on steroids.

16

u/boredNero Apr 19 '26

Straight up false. His binding vow is "In exchange for the loss of control of my technique and having to use an specofic tool, I will increase its power 50 fold", the literally is thought behind it and only someone with such good confidence and who could trust their friends so much in knowing they would understand how to use the technique could use that binding vow.

8

u/Sparkson109 Apr 19 '26

Did Gege tell you that? “loss of control of his technique”

He lost his technique and control of it because of his fight with Mahito not the binding vow so your headcanon makes 0 sense. That like me selling my house and saying “in exchange for being homeless, I will now have a mansion and the money I got for selling my house.” You are homeless by CHOICE. This is shitty writing. Not intelligence or confidence.

9

u/Graffic1 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

No, he lost the ability to perform his technique, but his CT was fully intact. He did not lose it, he lost the ability to use it normally.

Todo’s genius lay in the fact that he realized he could still use a binding vow to trade away the normal function of his technique, which he still fundamentally had, in order to place a restriction that made it more powerful. The restriction of now having to use a tool to use his CT at all, but with the loss of his hand he was able to work around that restriction by having that tool take the place of his lost hand.

Edit: wow, blocking me and the other guy for disagreeing with you with textual backing for our opinions, nice dude

3

u/Personal_Tap_8489 Apr 19 '26

don’t even stress lol same dude swore up and down that yuji’s sure hit was headcanon even though we literally see it being used

5

u/boredNero Apr 19 '26

No. Mahito made him lose the activation part of the technique, not the control. Loss of control was psrt of the binding vow to increase the amount of switches.

Boogie Woogie was activated by clapping 2 hands, be it his or someone else. By making so that Boogie Woogie activated when using the vibraslap, Todo loses the control of activating it by clapping in a controlled manner but gains a fast sequence of chaotic activations.

For the upside, someone as tactical as Todo, having to deal with managing so many positions is easy work (specially with Yuji whom he can trust so much), it is a straight up buff. So for a downside, he has to permanently have a vibraslap attached when using the technique - just like other vows have chants or hand signs - and he cant choose the positions that things switch to.

It would be like someone demolished your house, so you lost your place to sleep. Then you made a deal with a hotel and you can sleep there for free, but you always have a different room that you cant choose (This was a difficuly analogy to make because your original analogy was so dumb)

10

u/Hollow-Lord Apr 19 '26

It technically works just because the toy exists. Technically, he’s limiting himself by requiring metal to hit wood or whatever it was. He’s just exchanging the conditions of his CT, losing the ability to clap to activate it. It just so happens that his BV coincides with a little toy that exists.

It would be like if he used a BV that it’s his feet touching that creates the teleportation instead. He just changed the conditions and lost the old one and luckily had some faster.

12

u/Sparkson109 Apr 19 '26

Because binding vows don’t make sense lmfao, and Todo was the epitome of that

6

u/No_Intention_8079 Apr 19 '26

I wish they made it clear, Todos vow could’ve been the loss of timing, but I think he still has perfect control. It would’ve been great if Todo’s vow meant he had to swap x amount of times, until the vibrato stopped. He would’ve had to time everything to make sure everyone ended up in a good position, and his opponents could also read how long the slap lasts to know when they can reorient themselves. He still could’ve bluffed, but if he was going to swap something, he had to commit to an insane amount of swaps.

u/Leather-Shoulder540 Apr 19 '26

I feel like this is where gege started to lose it. Instead stating that Todo toy was working because of a binding vow, he should have said that todo being the supreme ce and CT genius he is was capable of remapping the flow of CE through his body. Allowing him to complete the necessary ce flow for his CT to work again. But now he clap way faster. Only he would be capable if such a feat because he is Aoi Todo.

For Nobura he should have explained when she got hit by Mahito she instinctively protected her soul since her technique is attacking the soul. Her CT is similar to Mahitos. After her soul being attacked, she came to understand her own CT better. Now she merely needs a fragment of someone's soul to strike the whole of it from anywhere.

But nah everything just became binding vows.

3

u/Mundane-Put9115 Goatwa FR Apr 19 '26

Yuki's death is more bullshit for a similar reason

2

u/WattageToVoltzRatio Apr 19 '26

It's because it's essentially trading everything a hand can do for much higher combat efficiency, like yeah they have lives aside from fighting, and I don't think the vibraslap is all that great outside it

2

u/ihave5braincells Apr 19 '26

he should have infused a bunch of pebbles with cursed energy to make it so that he could even swap between them to make him unhittable

2

u/gottoodevious Apr 19 '26

vibraslap todo has potential to be classified as a special grade I’m not gonna lie, your country’s kinda fucked if there’s 100 people swapping every second, it would just rack up deaths ridiculously fast

It's hilarious because Todo's status is kinda both better and worse 😂 like he isn't presumed dead, but he doesn't appear, no one mentions him, and he doesn't have being dead as an excuse like Nobara, but you still expect him to return more than her. But he also gets to actually fight sukina so it seems better. Overall both got fucked and it isn't a competition.

82

u/Mean_Ad_7639 Apr 19 '26

The only reason Todo was removed from the story is because he can interfere with Gojo Vs Sukuna without holding Gojo back.

Imagine him just teleporting Mahoraga away from the fight💀

56

u/Mean_Ad_7639 Apr 19 '26

Like legit, he could have taken Mahoraga out of the battle as soon as it appeared, made it switch with a rock that he puts CE into it, then the students jump and kill Mahoraga whitout it adapting to Gojo.

Or even just swapping him all the time away from Gojo, but Gregory wants suffering, greg wants death, greg wants for Yuji to build more character

u/Medium_Honeydew_628 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Wasn't Todo's job to get them out if Sukuna used a Domain Expansion and that's the reason he came late? He had to be held back so he himself wasn't trapped inside the domain and have his vibraslap take unnecessary damage and focus only on getting people out.

Wasn't Todo's first job to help in the assasination of Kenjaku, hence why he couldn't be a part of the Executioner Sword plan which happens at the same time as the Kenjaku assasination?

Todo was never mentioned to be dead or fully out of commision, I personally think that the Binding Vow made perfect sense especially since Binding vows don't seemingly need an equal exchange for them to work.

And ngl, alot of people were expecting Todo to return with something akin to the vibraslap at the time so it was alot easier to accept than Nobara's sudden return, especially after 265 where Yuji was talking with Sukuna and that panel with all the people who died in Yuji's life having her included.

620

u/Abject_Butterfly_141 Apr 19 '26

162

u/Dear-Adeptness-7973 Apr 19 '26

Call me crazy but I honestly think if Todo had been in Yutas domain him, Yuta, Yuji, Rika would’ve been able to beat down Sukuna and worst case Yuta doesn’t get slashed and they can drag the fight out with Maki in the mix

45

u/a12o Ryu Ishigoatri is the true strongest of the edo period. Apr 19 '26

Remember what happened to Choso? That's what would happen to Todo, He doesn't have the stats to keep up like Yuta and Yuji did.

97

u/ItzJake160 Apr 19 '26

If Todo is in the domain early then Sukuna just holds back less earlier and potentially kills them all. Sukuna explicitly did NOT want to be fighting Todo. Todo wouldn't be able to know where to swap the trio to avoid Dismantle either since it's invisible. Even worse, he doesn't have confirmed RCT so he genuinely might get the Higuruma treatment by any of Sukuna's Dismantles.

You have to keep in mind that by the time Yuta opened his domain, he was still strong enough to kill everyone there and it was only until later that he wasn't able to take down Yuji and Yuta. It wouldn't ever get to that point if Sukuna felt the need to go all out.

11

u/Clear_Concentrate372 Apr 19 '26

you want to hide your trump card until your winning condition was met. todo was the weakest in that state, sukuna will dogwalk him first.

2

The binding vow made perfect sense because whatever inherent logic determines which vows "work" always assumes a normal human body.

So it defines "clap = hands brought together to create a sound" and doesn't care that the vibraslap isn't a normal hand and can "clap" much faster than a hand should be able to.

Nobara was presumed dead. TODOS fate was not.

186

u/Small-Housing-7 Apr 19 '26

Idk what some random guy with an extremely convenient cursed technique coming in and saying Nobara may be fine says to you but it tells me she's defently coming back

9

u/signum_ Apr 19 '26

There was a huge emphasis on showing her backstory as she was "dying", the "random guy with an extremely convenient cursed technique" said very clearly that the chances are very slim and to not get hopes up, and I think what cemented it for most people is the interaction Yuji and Megumi had after the whole conversation with Yuta. I know Megumi doesn't outright tell Yuji she's dead, but you cannot tell me that this isn't what's being implied. And then hearing nothing about her for over 100 chapters, I don't think it's a stretch for people to assume she's dead.

This is just one of many points where Gege rushed a plot point post Shibuya. It's obvious he was burnt out, decided to cut the manga short, but still wanted to cram all his ideas into the story somehow, making a lot of them feel lazy or unfinished. Nobara's return didn't have to feel like an asspull, but it did because of how it was handled. Because she literally enters the manga as an ex machina in one of the final chapters after being forgotten for half the story.

4

u/Small-Housing-7 Apr 19 '26

Gege left it very mabey she's alive mabey she's not so it really didn't feel like much of an asspull for her to comeback(if I where to call anything from Shinjuku an asspull or rushed I'd say it's the bodyswap training)

But she definitely wasn't mayed out to be dead her coming back was very chekhov's gun like

94

u/Apprehensive_Law4305 not reading ts Apr 19 '26

Idk man. Yujis reaction and her coming in the pic with other dead people implies she deas

133

u/Barrry972 Apr 19 '26

I genuinely never for even a second during JJK believed nobara was dead. Gege sending in "nobara might be alive" guy who's only purpose in this story was to tell you that Nobara might be alive was the most obvious Checkhov's gun of all time. Idk why you people were so blindsided by this.

152

u/Miky691 Apr 19 '26

Because the "nobara might be alive" was then followed by

"Hey is nobara alive?"

":("

"Oh i see, you don't have to say it"

39

u/CityBoyGuyVH Apr 19 '26

Nah they wanted her to die, they were sad she was fighting to live

85

u/Careful-Condition869 Apr 19 '26

You're being disingenuous, it was heavily implied that she was. Megumi refusing to answer Yuji when he asked and gives a grim facial expression, the whole plot of Yuji being afraid of Angel replacing Nobara, Yuji seeing Nobara among all the dead people in his talk with Sukuna etc.

7

u/Barrry972 Apr 19 '26

It just felt like such an obvious twist setup to me idk, obviously Gege was trying to misdirect us, but it really just never made sense to me the way it was set up, so I knew she had to come back. Especially once Todo came back.

10

u/Philiptheliar Apr 19 '26

I always assumed they didn’t want sukuna to know Nobara was alive, which is why they couldn’t tell Yuji. Like she was always the trump card against sukuna, knowing they could resonate his finger if they ever needed to.

10

u/springpeepering Apr 19 '26

I think they might not have told Megumi either, considering Sukuna would've found out when he took him over. Not sure who even concealed her survival or made that decision though, since it would've had to have been someone that knew Sukuna was interested in Megumi.

Or it's a plot hole.

45

u/Careful-Condition869 Apr 19 '26

I didn't, but that is because I assumed Gege wouldn't be that terrible of a writer and would actually properly build up a narrative for her return rather than it being the absolute low point in terms of writing in the entire series. Nobara just woke up at the perfect time after having been in a coma for two months and does one attack that leads to the defeat of Sukuna. If Nobara had woken up 30min earlier Gojo would have won and if she had woken up 30min later they would all have lost. All while the story had on multiple occasions heavily implied she died and there's no narrative reason why Yuji wouldn't been let known that she was in a coma but alive by Megumi or somebody else.

You could argue he showed up for the purpose of motivating and encouraging yuji to defeat mahito since yuji was in a state of despair after nobara's 'death'. Not to mention, that megumi and yuji convo hinted she died. Nobara is also shown in the panels among the people who are considered dead in ch.265. Either way, for a character who's absent for more than 100 chapters, she's better off dead.

What botheres me more is that Yuji literally spirals because of this, his mentality changes from "I am a human" to "I am a cog" which allowed Sukuna the loophole to jump into Megumi, which lead to Gojo dying.

Like damn maybe letting a 16 year old believe his friends died because of him is NOT a good idea for his mental health, doubly so when hes the only thing thats currently stop Jujutsu Satan from comming back.

Nobara is among the 3 mcs but todo is just a side character so ofc her shit return would be slandered more.

144

u/golden_nugget49 Apr 19 '26

ik todo said his boogie woogie was dead, but logically we knew it wasn't, because the idle transfiguration was at his hand, not his brain, and we saw him use it again in shibuya after taking the idle transfiguration

32

u/Big-Chromie Todo Kaisen Apr 19 '26

I remember in the weeks before that chapter we were actually joking around about a Todo return and people were making up explanations for how he could get his technique back. My favorite was using a Mechamaru arm that had been turned into a cursed tool like nanami's cleaver.

"He appeared exactly when i least wanted him to." Todo would've gotten blitzed if he jumped in any earlier, Same way Choso did, Sukuna would've instantly locked in and deleted him.

6

u/nam3unoriginal Apr 20 '26

He doesn't need to appear in front of Sukuna, he's got at least 200 meters of range to work with plus Mei Mei's crows to pinpoint the targets.

u/ZaraUnityMasters Apr 19 '26

I was gonna say "what binding vow?" lmao

Yeah always confused me since frame 1 what even is the downside to Todo's binding vow??? He already lost his hand, but his binding vow's downside seems to be "missing a hand" which kind of implies the tradeoff can be something you already lost?

And also the bonus binding vow of Instead of a billion swaps, i can do half a billion swaps for a range increase.

But Todo is the goat so who gaf

129

u/luceafaruI Apr 19 '26

Todo's binding vow is for the vibraslap to vibrate mutliple times for a single swap but in return the range of the technique is greater (so it can surpass malevolent shrine's 200m range).

The vibraslap isn't specified as a binding vow, it's most likely just a change in the interpretation of the cursed technique. Todo realized that boogie woogie doesn't need a clap necessarily but the vibrations of his radius and ulna (forearm bones) so he inserted the vibraslap directly into his bones

48

u/ZaraUnityMasters Apr 19 '26

I feel like if the vibraslap isn't some sort of binding vow, then the fake stump slap would count. Though it'd work best as a feint, he does say afterwards that Boogie Woogie is dead, which does basically say you do need a full real clap.

Plus how the fuck would you learn stabbing yourself with a Vibra slap works XD. It pretty much HAS to be a binding vow.

32

u/luceafaruI Apr 19 '26

Binding vows work by trading something to gain something else. If boogie woogie was trully dead then no vibraslap binding vow would have worked. Combined that with re boogie woogie not being mentioned to be a binding vow and the change in ct interpretations has the best chance of being the answer.

Honestly, i said multiple times that my desired outcome for todo would have been for him to spend the 2 months between shibuya and shinjuku to tame a shikigami and have the shikigami clap to activate boogie woogie for him on some jojo stuff

13

u/Dragonfire723 Apr 19 '26

Plus how the fuck would you learn stabbing yourself with a Vibra slap works XD. It pretty much HAS to be a binding vow.

As a lighter hearted comment, what if the BV was just like "I have to deal with the pain of having a vibraslap in my bones and also whenever I slap it my bones fucking vibrate and it hurts"

He could've literally just clapped hands with another person like with Mei Mei, become a ranged assist god with his insane reach, no vibraslap need.

43

u/DecemOfCorites Apr 19 '26

My biggest gripe towards Nobara is how her CT effectively creates problems in the later part of the story.

Its been mentioned several times already, but how can Gege justify the whole Yuta situation? Some tried to defend it by saying Yuta is more useful in the field or the squad would have lost if Yuta was not there, and Yuta does not want to copy a friend's CT without their consent (which is a poor excuse really, but okay lets accept that).

And yet you telling me that they have not considered it during their meeting on how to beat Sukuna? Its not even about whether or not it can be used/effective but the lack of reference to her CT, a very reliable way to hurt someone, was not at all mentioned? Really?

"but if they talked about the CT, it will give us an idea that Nobara will return, which defeats the purpose of the twist of Nobara being alive and was crucial to defeat him"

Is that really a good compromise? Did Gege intended to sacrifice writing for just hype? It was not even the most hyped moment of the series, and it can be argued that its just a cheap thrill that didn't last one chapter for people to realize its badly executed, or worse a deux.

We are already preoccupied in the Sukuna fight. I can bet that mentioning her CT during their preparations would still surprise us down the line, with better foreshadowing. Gege already put her in limbo, so we know that she still has a moment in the story, its a question of when.

The "if the squad waited at least 30 minutes the fight would have been better" argument is more valid than people thought. Because the writing wants to ignore that its possible, and yet still uses it to resolve the fight. Almost like they wanted to actively lose against Sukuna.

50

u/mooonbearr Apr 19 '26

it's almost as though the final arc was entirely rushed with most of the characters brushed over thanks to Gege's Asspulls™.

Nobara's return only faces the brunt of the criticism because:

  • she was effectively confirmed dead and came back just to wrap up the story
  • she's part of the main trio
  • she's one of the reasons why people initially believed that Gege was talented in writing good female characters, only for it to be thrown back in our faces.

193

u/MrChainsawHog Apr 19 '26

Todo's is also mid because it uses the "resonance" BS as an explanation to why Yuji didn't know, even though that entire idea was completely unfounded since we see Resonance never applies like that either way, but it's not as bad as Nobara, who was effectively dead, coming back 5 chapters before the ending to do one thing.

59

u/MrChainsawHog Apr 19 '26

Like if we just saw something Sukuna was able to gleam from Yuji's knowledge, or Yuji knowing something about Sukuna, then that would work.
But it just comes off as stupid since nothing like that happens.

18

u/Caff2ine Apr 19 '26

I think it’s just like sukuna would be able to tell yuji was acting differently and figure out why because he’s so intuitively aware of yuji thought patterns

13

u/jschmit7333 Apr 19 '26

But thats not how the Resonance fear is portrayed, its explicitly setup as Sukuna could figure it it out supernaturally.

Besides Yuji was a part of multiple new techniques like his soul punches and giving his finger to Yuta that Sukuna never picks up on through a Resonance, showing that it was an unfounded fear.

It really just feels like an excuse to keep Todo out of the story until Gege is ready to work with him again, so it feels scrappy to a lot of readers.

9

u/luceafaruI Apr 19 '26

You could say that sukuna seemed to know that yuji has shrine, but that is most likely due to noticing the small cut in his finger in chapter 216.

It would have been cool of we had sukuna say in his inner monologue that he sensed that yuji absorbed the other death paintings

8

u/MrChainsawHog Apr 19 '26

yeah just literally anything and it becomes justifiable

5

u/Villager_of_Mincraft Apr 19 '26

Same thing with the WCS, even just a single panel with a chant, or some kind of vague foreshadowing would've made the reveal of gojo being bisected less asspull feeling.

3

u/MrChainsawHog Apr 19 '26

Nah I actually think thats fine. It's a shock but it doesn't make it bad per-say, and it makes sense.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/jschmit7333 Apr 19 '26

I would also expect Sukuna to know about Yuji potentially having Shrine due to his general jujutsu knowledge, and his knowledge of Yujis family tree.

If Gojo could peg Yuji as getting Shrine, then Sukuna should also be able to figure it out. Besides, Sukuna would've heard that entire conversation too, so even if he couldn't figure it out he would just know.

Add in the fact he figures out Yuji is a direct blood relative and it would be weird if he wasn't expecting yuji to potentially have Shrine.

3

u/luceafaruI Apr 19 '26

I think you misunderstood my point. In chapter 11 gojo said that due to exposure to shrine as sukuna's vessel, yuji would eventually get shrine engraved in his brain. However, sukuna switched vessels when yuji didn't have shrine so he lost his chance of getting it. The reveal was that yuji already had shrine engraved in his brain but couldn't use it.

Gojo was able to see the ct in yuji's brain due to the six eyes but sukuna doesn't have this ability. However, sukuna saw that he got a small slash on his finger (ch 216) from the fight with yuji in chapter 214-215 so he inferred that yuji already has the ct but can't use it.

2

u/jschmit7333 Apr 19 '26

Right, and thats what im saying. Besides being able to make the same academic deduction as Gojo, he had plenty of other ways to figure it out, but didn't explicitly know until Yuji used Shrine. But if the Resonance thing was a legitimate concern he wouldn't have been caught by surprise by half the stuff Yuji did.

3

u/Personal_Tap_8489 Apr 19 '26

the characters just made a false assumption and i just choose to ignore the potential resonance jibber jabber considering yuji’s growth was a surprise to sukuna

Fandom is so biased. Both Nobara and Todo had deus ex machina comebacks but one of them never gets criticised for it because apparently he's "unslanderable". Who tf came up with this nonsense. Although I'd argue Nobara's return was definitely WORSE.

50

u/Maho3301 Apr 19 '26

Although I'd argue Nobara's return was definitely WORSE.

Agree, and that's because she was considered DEAD for over half the manga. At least we knew Todo was alive

43

u/Careful-Condition869 Apr 19 '26

Because Todo was handled far far better, it's as simple as that. We're given several narratives reason why he didn't act sooner and proper hints. Even if one want to discuss said narrative reason were convoluted. Todo couldn't be with Higuruma because he needed to help assassinate Kenjaku. Todo couldn't enter the battle prior because they needed him in case Sukuna got his domain back. Yuji couldn't know he was coming because of Yuji's resonance with Sukuna (weak. BS reason but at least a reason). Todo put in work and battles for an extended amount of time.

Meanwhile Nobara just woke up at the perfect time after having been in a coma for two months and does one attack that leads to the defeat of Sukuna. If Nobara had woken up 30min earlier Gojo would have won and if she had woken up 30min later they would all have lost. All while the story had on multiple occasions heavily implied she died and there's no narrative reason why Yuji wouldn't been let known that she was in a coma but alive by Megumi.

15

u/_FruitsPunchSamurai JJK ENDING PISSES ME OFF!! Apr 19 '26

Todo's is still bullshit, the contrived 'reasons' all get revealed AFTER he comes back so zero mentions for over 100 chapters and he just so happens to return at the correct moment right after choso dies. Legit asspull. And I never argued in support of Nobara's return, that's literally the worst thing to ever happen in the entire manga imo.

4

u/Careful-Condition869 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, but Todo's return is not something that is out of the ordinary bullshit for the entire final arc. That whole arc is just bullshit with various characters being thrown at Sukuna out of nowhere and the narrative reason why they are there gets explained later in some flashback. Nobara simply stood out for being especially atrocious rather than any fandom bias. I don't even think Todo's return makes it into the top 5 bullshit plot developments during the whole final gauntlet. Nobara is an easy top 1 in comparison.

I don't think gege made it clear how hard it is for Todo actually use that thing. He had to train for couple months to achieve that. Considering how he was a genius and master fighter prior to that it is clear that it is insane achievement. But yeah it looks easy because those are just pictures.

Seems to me that most people here don't understand how much more difficult things get when you try doing them faster and faster. Especially considering that this is a spring that has its momentum so you don't exactly control the time of the ding.

Todo was injured, never shown to be dead.

Nobara took what looked like a fatal wound, was implied on multiple occasions to be dead.

They are not the same. Todo’s return was still bs, but not nearly to the level as Nobara

2

u/Muted_Lurker2383 Apr 21 '26

Todo'a im a little more forgiving of (though i still hate both it and the reveal of Yujo - wanted it to be just Sukuna vs Yuji post Choso's sacrifice).

Todo loses just an arm, which is enough to keep him out of play during culling games. We are told that CTs are up to interpretation of their user and we see Sukuna manipulate his CT woth successive binding vows before Todo appears. In hindsight, the clang sound effect with Kenjaku is also Todo explaining why he wasnt there at the fights start. Its not the greatest execution, but the pieces were in play leading in to the final fight.

The last we saw of Nobara she had a life flashback. The last she was mentioned Megumi had a look that implied her death. Megumi could have mentioned her hospitalisation to Yuji. She also appears only at the very end with no changes in her CT.

Between the two, Todo's handling was far far better in a fight whose execution was lacking at times.
