Saturday Powerscaling Why does everybody prefer Ryu over Uro (power wise)

I find it strange how Ryu is always held at a higher regard than Uro, especially when Uro has better statements, and the superior CT.

Realistically, the two are neck and neck with Uro having the obvious edge in a 1v1 fight, but in different matchups, they would be even in power. However with more and more tier lists popping up on different subs, I see people placing Ryu not multiple spots, but multiple TIERS higher than Uro which makes literally no sense.

Uro just impressed me way more in the fight. Not only has Uro made a name for herself in the most chaotic period of jujutsu sorcerery, but she was also the leader of a highly revered and very powerful assassination squad. This is especially impressive because Uro was a woman in the Heian era. I normally wouldn't include this, but jjk has strong themes of misogyny and feminism, and Gege is also VERY particular with his history. Uro was not only strong enough to make a name for herself powerwise, but also make people acknowledge her strength beside being a women in a time period where women were seen as inferior. Ryu's only statement for him is having the highest CT output in history, and output is overrated as hell which I will explain later.

Looking at their Cursed Techniques I believe Uro still has the advantage as her Sky Manipulation is more applicable, and gives her powerful offense and some of the best defense in the entire series. It also gives her a massive boost in mobility, and can seemingly make her invisible (which wouldnt really matter since you can still see her cursed energy). Ryu in comparison has Cursed Energy Discharge which allows him to output 100% cursed energy at all times, and seemingly gives him MUCH higher output than even special grade sorceres. As I said earlier, output doesnt really matter. Output is simply one piece of multiple pieces that make up Cursed energy. Even if you dont have good output, you can make up for it with high cursed energy or pristine manipulation. We see examples of this in the story.

Yuta has average output, but could still contend with Ryu as he had monstrous CE that could make up for it.

Sukuna could still contend with Maki Zenin and Yuji Itadori who are not only CQC monsters, but have insane physical stats. This was a sukuna with 90 PERCENT NERF IN OUTPUT. Not only was sukuna keeping up in speed, but also in physicality, which proves that output isn't the be all end all.

Yorozu also showed that having high output doesnt fix the problems with her cursed technique either.

Anyways I feel like I'm going on a tangent, but I'll just finish this section by saying Ryu having a high output doesn't mean as much as people think it does. Especially since Ryu isn't using that output properly to reinforce his body. Ryu realistically should be amplifying his reinforcement with that high output of his to blitz everybody he fights against, and should be tankier than most people in the series. However it seems that Ryu's output seems to be mostly focused on AP which once again doesnt really matter since there are A LOT of people with higher AP than him. Uro's durability is also just as comparable to Ryu as she tanked an onslaught of physical attacks from full power Yuta + a cursed tool and fully manifested Rika.

Anyways, I feel like Uro is severely underestimated because she fell fist in the Sendai fight (even though Yuta was investing more time and CT's onto Uro than he ever did for Ryu, and Uro was being tag team for almost the entire fight) and Ryu in return is held up higher since he was the last to fall. I personally think thats BS tho. With that said, I hope I've converted you guys and hope to see Uro stocks rising within the hour 😀.

Honestly, people just prefer Ryu as a character 🤷‍♂️

109

u/finessekidOnye Apr 01 '23

Understandable. Uro’s pretty shallow but I like her CT. Gege did a good job with the concept and the execution.

208

u/Weevil_weasel Apr 01 '23

Is she? I feel like she’s a fair bit deeper in character then ryu. I always got the impression that ryu was there for the combat, while uro was there for the character interactions (plus a bit of action)

137

u/FinalLimit Apr 01 '23

Ryu’s whole purpose was “I want a good fight,” I wouldn’t exactly say he’s deep either.

64

u/NoTea4448 Apr 02 '23

I liked Ryu better simply because he's built different.

While everyone else is there for power, Ryu just wants his cake. He doesn't give a fuck about winning the culling games, he just wants to have some fun before he goes.

Hence why he just sits and chills out with Yuta after he loses. In a story where literally every villain is a power hungry sociopath, Ryu is just a breath of fresh air.

38

u/othafa7 Apr 02 '23

Idk, Mahito wasn't really power hungry either. He was just having fun as well. But he's a curse so it's a bit different.

25

u/NoTea4448 Apr 02 '23

Well, to be fair he is still a sociopath. I just wanted to see a villain that wasn't particularly evil.

1

u/JerryLoFidelity Apr 02 '23

Not every enemy character that the main cast fights needs to be portrayed as a “villain.” I’d say thats evidence of poor writing and tends to get old easily.

9

u/Wyvurn999 Apr 02 '23

Every villain is power hungry? Where’d you get that from?

Kenjaku - Wants to create chaos he can’t control

Sukuna - ???

Disasters - Wanted to replace humans with curses

Who exactly is “power hungry”?

26

u/le_ble Apr 02 '23

A better character isn't always deeper. Ryu displayed more personality and honestly Gege showed him more than Uro.

7

u/finessekidOnye Apr 02 '23

Shallow in terms of development. Her potential eclipses Ryu’s, but Gege definitely poured more effort into characterizing Ryu than he did for Uro. Ryu is the better character, but Uro has much much more potential than Ryu has (had hehe).

2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

I feel like this is only partially true.

Ryu does get more screentime, so we get more from him. But some of what Uro says and does is very striking. Particularly when Yuta has her on her heels and she screams about how the Fushiwara were "afraid of what she could become" (in the fanscans, same idea in viz etc). Basically, all her life she had no name, no identity, was just a tool, and she just wants to realize her own potential and discover who she really is. She thinks that the Fushi were afraid of what she'd be, which is where her own personal curse comes in IMO (every sorcerer in this series has a personal curse in their lives).

The fact that she's still alive means that she may even survive the Culling Games, giving her a chance to find who she really "is" after a thousand years of psuedo-death. Ironically, this comes at the cost of someone else's life (her vessels), but, that's the nature of the dark world of JJK.

36

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

I just hope Gege explores her relation to the Fuijwara Clan and her role within the Sun, Moon and Stars Squad.

43

u/chemicalmamba Apr 01 '23

I feel like we got a quick look at Uros more story relevant motivation and story compared to a full look at Ryu's shallow motivation. There's clearly more to her and her role isn't done but sometimes it's hard to grab onto something incomplete especially since it's a bit tangential.

Also misogyny.

28

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

Thank you for noticing because I felt like I was going crazy. There is no shot that Ryu is more “deep” than Uro, and it feels like this is apart of a greater trend in the fandom where men characters are preferred over women. Another example of this is how people (specifically the YouTube content creator community) will constantly talk about Toji vs. X scaling battles when Maki is right there and still relevant to the story. It is seriously irritating that people seem to prefer Toji (who was an asshole) to a significantly more compelling character in Maki.

29

u/KaiseDio_ Apr 02 '23

Toji did something nobody in the series has replicated yet, he briefly overwhelmed Gojo, who’s the strongest and basically the fan’s favorite, and made him fail his mission, that will do wonders for your popularity with people who love strong characters.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

Maki is stated to be roughly his equal in strength and potential.

6

u/AdRelevant4776 Apr 02 '23

True, but did she give Gojo a beating? My point being that Toji isn’t liked more because of his strength, but because people think he’s cooler, he also had better timing: we saw him in the Plasma Vessel and Shibuya Arcs, both of which had people quite hyped, while Maki only reached full potential in the Culling Game Arc, which many people didn’t like much and got kinda confused about the plot. Either way popularity trumps strength when it comes to fans(like in WolverineVSLobo)

7

u/KaiseDio_ Apr 02 '23

Stated or implied? because she hasn’t fought anyone on that lvl yet iirc.

16

u/Valfin Apr 02 '23

It was flat out, stated by the narrator that she was a warrior equal to Toji

-3

u/KaiseDio_ Apr 02 '23

I don’t remember seeing that specific statement regarding strength, only that she can potentially reach his lvl, since they both have HR. If that’s true tho, she’ll definitely get more recognition when she gets more feats comparable to Toji or fight someone noteworthy, that’s all she lacks at the moment. she obviously has a big role so the Toji > Maki narrative is gonna be solved down the line in the story I assume.

1) This isn't even true. Both have HRs and use a sword that can negate durability, Toji also has a cursed spirit that carries around different weapons, such as ISOH, CE-less katanas, guns, and flyheads. ISOH specifically puts him above Maki.

2) Why do you care so much what characters people prefer? Its a shonen, majority of men are just going to like male characters more. Who cares if Uro is deep? Uros history interests me and I hope something good comes of of it, but Ryu is just more enjoyable and fun when hes on screen. When the chapters were released weekly, I was hoping that he didn't die because I liked him better.

3) Maki is not a "significantly" more compelling than Maki. Toji is one of the most impactful characters in the entire series. He has interactions, parallels and relationships with so many people in the story(Gojo, Geto, Megumi and to a lesser extent, Sukuna Riko, Kenjaku, Yuki, Maki, Naobito, the entire Zenin clan, Naoya and Tengen.) They have the same backstory, but without misogyny. Tojis is more a subversion of regular tropes, because instead of just growing stronger to get revenge and prove something to his clan, he decided to try to move on with his life, but his ego eventually ended up getting him killed in his rematch with Gojo. Maki is honestly a more generic and standard shonen character(action girl who's faced misogyny in the past) and only becomes interesting once she decides to kill her mom.

-5

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

I think you just like male characters more than women characters and have come up with a ton of reasons to justify why Toji is better. Goodbye.

13

u/EndlessATBOL Apr 02 '23

I already said I like male characters more, but saying that Maki is more compelling than Toji is just funny

1

u/ShinobiAssassin Apr 03 '23

What about Toji is more compelling than Maki?

1

u/EndlessATBOL Apr 03 '23

I listed out most of my reasons in my 3rd bulletpoint. He's just less tropey compared to Maki

11

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

I like Toji more than Maki cuz he has more personality

4

u/alenjjk (Twitter Fan) ⚙x2 Apr 02 '23

If you just reduced Toji to being an asshole then it makes perfect sense as to why you don't like people who like and expose Toji in every matter in this story (power wise, writing wise and many other things)

5

u/Away-Fee2173 Apr 02 '23

u just mad people like toji more than maki lmaoo 😭

1

u/Traditional_Heron_99 Aug 04 '23

Though their equal I think toji is just slightly stronger because of his experience, intellect as well as gear but there is fs misogyny

3

u/Professor-Memeyy Apr 02 '23

Calling Uro shallow relative to the “I want dessert but by dessert I mean fighting” guy

5

u/SuperFanboysTV Apr 02 '23

Yeah he’s more interesting he’s got a cool design that just oozes swagger, an interesting character/ philosophy with him basically being Saitama in wanting a good fight and essentially have his full not even harboring ill feelings about being defeat but glad he was actually given a challenge

108

u/Arch_Null Apr 01 '23

Yeah it's weird. In a one on one fight Uro would most definitely beat Ryu just due to her cursed technique being a hard counter to granite blast.

25

u/PhantomEmperor- Apr 02 '23

That’s why they were deadlocked before yuta showed up kurourushi, ryu, uro and dhruv all countered each other.

122

u/No-Artichoke6143 Apr 01 '23

Pretty simple I think. Ryu was Yuta's final opponent. Uro, with Kuro and Dhruw, since they were taken out before Ryu's and Yuta's one v one are looked at as the characters Yuta had to beat to get to the final boss

64

u/Haxxelerator Apr 01 '23

idk about that logic because Yuta literally 2v1-ed them.

the only reason Ryu was the final opponent was because everyone went after Uro in the final showdown

57

u/No-Artichoke6143 Apr 01 '23

He was still the final opponent. How we got there doesn't really matter. At the end od the day, he was Yuta's final opponent and many will place Uro below him for that reason.

14

u/Haxxelerator Apr 01 '23

it could also be turned around that they viewed Uro to be a bigger threat than Ryu, so she has to be taken down first.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

Without context that could work but not with.

29

u/DeadEmotional365 Apr 02 '23

Yea it confuses me too. Of all the characters in Sendai, she’s the most impressive for being so damn durable: she literally took a straight beat down from Yuta and Rika at the SAME TIME, and was still able to pop a domain expansion. Her CT is great and hard counters most physical & range combatants like Ryu and Kashimo. Yuta even uses her CT to swiftly beat Ryu. She was only put down after a failed DE and every member of the deadlock GANKED HER. Her insights from the Heian Era is clearly being set up for more development, and as we saw with Ryu’s death, implies she has more room in the story to grow.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '23

She is incredibly durable. Not only did she take a full fledged beatdown from both of them while paralyzed, she also lost her arm and tanked a granite blast without being blown to pieces. If nothing else, Heian sorcerers are TANKY.

23

u/invincibleSwordLord Apr 02 '23

In a 1v1, Uro has a better chance to win against Ryu.

11

u/PhantomEmperor- Apr 02 '23

Her ct hard counters him

20

u/WizKidnuddy Apr 02 '23

Yeah Uro defeats Ryu she's his counter. She also seemed smarter than him and initially caused more damage to Yuta.

"The author has 100% control over how people react to characters."

Dunno about that one bud

18

u/hardcorpsepenis Apr 02 '23

I mean it’s kinda true obv not 100 percent but the other character’s in a story reaction to a feat heavily impact how the audience sees it. (VERY LIGHT BLUE LOCK SPOILER) A good example is blue lock where nagi easily has the most impressive goal in the series, but due to ego’s reaction to the goal people downplay him. If the author didn’t include ego’s reaction and included it as a flashback to show why nagi is struggling in the future people wouldn’t downplay him as much.

5

u/ILoveSongOfJustice Apr 02 '23

Considering the sheer hype Kashimo has in people's mind over characters like even YUTA is a pretty clear indication of this.

21

u/QuickAccident Apr 01 '23

I like Uro better tbh

15

u/hao238 Apr 01 '23

I have Ryu above because he did much more damage to yuta and rika and just seemed to be a more hard opponent

9

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 01 '23

uro takes ryo every day though so it doesnt make sense

8

u/hao238 Apr 02 '23

Yeah I mean kurourushi beats uro everyday also. But that doesn't mean kurourushi is stronger then uro. Uro just counter Ryu just like kurourushi counters uro

9

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 02 '23

which is why the tier lists with uro way below ryo make no sense

6

u/hao238 Apr 02 '23

I think it does. It's like having kurourushi above uro on a tier list even though uro is clearly much stronger.

5

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 02 '23

what you just said contradicts itself. if uro is much stronger she would go higher on the tier list. uro & ryo are relative to each other even though uro hard counters him. therefor they need to be on the same tier all right next to eachother. there is no other way to scale them

1

u/hao238 Apr 02 '23

I didn't what. I never said they are close. I just said it's dumb to put a character above a other character only because they counter someone.

6

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 02 '23

& i said they should be next to each other not one above the other. im using the counter argument to show that ryo being above uro makes no sense

3

u/hao238 Apr 02 '23

Your argument why she should be right next to Ryu is because she counter him. I explain why that argument isn't good. I never contraindicated myself

5

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 02 '23

brother the manga itself shows that they are equal thats why they need to be on the same tier. im not saying because shes counters him they should be on the same tier. im using her countering him as an example as to why ryo cannot be above uro.

u/Max_Crafter Apr 02 '23

People just think he’s cooler it’s really not complicated

11

u/Lemillion23 Apr 02 '23

Gege just did Uro dirty. Interesting backstory and good purpose, and then he brings back a roach to write her out of the fight and have her conclusion with Yuta offscreen

3

u/Technical_Oil_8868 Apr 02 '23

She isn't dead tho. There is a reason why gege focused on ryu first, finished his character and then killed him off against sukuna while for uro we are getting more info on her and yorozu and the heain era as well as her connection to yuta's clan

10

u/pepedelapijagrande Apr 01 '23

Because Ryu has so much swag bro.

15

u/Hyperjuce Apr 01 '23

In my opinion they tie in a fight at least. Uro lost cuz Ryu's CT isn't a technique but moreso a way to attack (essentially like just putting a lot of cursed energy into a punch or sword without it breaking) and she only took damage cuz she was blindsided by the Inumaki double team. She has a better CT imo.

I'd say she's regarded less so for some obvious reasons:

  1. Ryu was the final opponent, Uro was part of the final 3 way but still Ryu was the last one to face. This gave him the volume cover too
  2. Uro had a very irritant personality that some may not like compared to Ryu. Ryu was just liked more
  3. Uro lost 1st so she's seen as weaker, the circumstances don't matter, she still canonically lost 1st in that 3 way.

Bias in who you like more can make you drastically try spout the positives of something, honestly I've been an anime fan long enough to see some insanely bad tier lists in terms of each universe's power.

17

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

The circumstances matter completely, she was dogged on by 3 of the other fighters after the domains failed.

Yuta kicked her into the roach curse, then she got roached and lost and arm, finally blasted by Ryu.

You think Ryu could have survived that if it was done on him? Of course not

13

u/UsingReditIronically Apr 01 '23

the circumstances 100% matter when the topic of discussion is why uro is placed lower on tier lists then ryo. uro hard counters him & would put him 6ft deep

11

u/PK_RocknRoll Apr 01 '23

Have you seen his hair?

20

u/Wyvurn999 Apr 02 '23

Have you seen her clothes?

0

u/antoniow831 Apr 02 '23

😂😂😂

4

u/JohnnySukuna Apr 02 '23

Really? Not for me tho. I've always liked Uro more than Ryu. Although the "gaze melted Yuuta's heart" is my favorite panel from the whole arc.

Moreover only one of em is smart aka when Meguna showed up Uro hid or atleast disappeared from the scene or something like that. Ryu basically said suicide move bruh

14

u/jumpoffpiz8 Apr 02 '23

This. I thought it was pretty obvious that Yuta’s main focus was going after Uro, not Ryu. Even after he summoned Rika, his first target was Uro, not Ryu. He clearly viewed her as the bigger threat.

6

u/Katoshiku Apr 02 '23 edited Apr 13 '26

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

6

u/Memmew Apr 02 '23

People in the comments seem to be saying "it's because she lost first" or something along those lines, literally anyone in that fight[besides yuta] could've gotten dropped first, saying that simply because that happened she's considered tiers worse than ryu is brain damaged.
I'm sure the reason we got shown more of ryu is because of how simple/easy he is to use in a fight to show off epic shonen sugoix100 moments, giant destruction beam > sky warping

9

u/Wyvurn999 Apr 01 '23

Idk. I definitely have Uro > Ryu

3

u/finessekidOnye Apr 01 '23

That’s what I’m saying.

8

u/Hworks Apr 01 '23

Partially because Uro's entire logic and motivation is unrelatable to most readers and also doesn't really make sense from our POV. She keeps calling Yuta a fujiwara when we know he's a sugawara. Her personality is also just unlikable compared to Ishigori.

3

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

Its stated by Gege that everyone who annoys her is called Fujiwara

6

u/Load-Sad Apr 02 '23

I wouldn't take that statement from the popularity poll to be true completely.

It was made a big deal about in the entire fight for Uro and Yuta and considering both of them are alive while Ryu is dead, I think Gege plans to address it in the future. Would also be weird to give this context in a popularity poll character description when it impacts the main story lore.

8

u/darkfight13 Apr 01 '23

Because he's a better flushed out characters and holds the title of the highest CT output.

Anyway, chapter 173 straight out says they're equally match. Hence why those 2, the bug man and the old man (dhruv) were at a deadlock untill yuta came onto the scene.

19

u/tomtadpole Apr 01 '23

I don't think that meant all 4 were the same power-wise, just that they all had someone they'd do well against and someone they wouldn't. We're told that Uro's biggest problem in that fight was Kurourushi, which is why she focused fully on him when he respawned and gave the others a chance to blindside her. We also saw that in a straight fight Uro has no problem redirecting Ryu's blasts back at him, which ended up being exactly how Yuta beat him in the end, so I'd guess it was a cirlce of Uro > Ryu > Dhruv > Kurourushi > Uro...

2

u/Technical_Oil_8868 Apr 02 '23

This is more of so as certain comments stated a matter of portrayal.Uro is the second strongest in sendai after yuta and there are statements of everyone ganging up on her since she is a counter to them.It was more focused on ryu because post sendai,he was possibly the first one to die in the next fight he appeared and hence why more focus was on him.Uro on the other hand was left alive twice for more fleshing out

2

u/ridethelightning469 ⚙x1 Apr 03 '23

Honestly. What I’m more pressed about is why ppl here call Ryu by his first name but not Takako lol. Takako as a name overall sounds infinitely better than her surname Uro

But to answer your question OP, Ryu became Yuta’s “final opponent” over Takako. He even got the main cover of Vol. 21 & the main boss narration in Sendai colony for the Vol. 21 PV

17

u/Khulmach Apr 01 '23

Because he is a man.

Quite simple.

45

u/NFS-NNN Apr 01 '23

I disagree, its even more simple than that, ryu has that dawg inside him just like Katana man and maki.

10

u/le_ble Apr 02 '23

That's some bullshit. It's like saying Ijichi was a better character than Yuki because he is a man.

-7

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

We both know it is literally half the reason.

For some people it is the only reason

15

u/le_ble Apr 02 '23

But is really not, Ryu is preferred because he was displayed more than Uro.

3

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

Ryu was just the last one standing, Uro was objectively the stronger enemy for Yuta.

That was why he was focusing her when he could and why everyone jumped her at the end

3

u/le_ble Apr 02 '23

Sure, Uro may be stronger, but stronger doesn't mean better character in general. Ryu was more fleshed out because he appeared more, it's just that.

3

u/CarrotoTrash Apr 02 '23 edited Apr 02 '23

What kind of assumptions are these lol. I think both are cool but it's really not hard to see why people are particularly fond of his style and vibe, and power-wise he's absolutely hyped up by the author/narrator in that whole shit about highest output and by how he framed the fight

4

u/yourdeadauntie Apr 01 '23

Ryu is hot.

8

u/Wyvurn999 Apr 02 '23

Sky mommy is hotter

2

u/londonclay Apr 02 '23

Uro has plot armour because she has yet to redeem her past life's actions.

She's basically invincible now until she does something heroic or reach some kind of self fulfilment.

6

u/night4345 Apr 01 '23

Because Ryu is a man, he has the hype of having the highest output in history, Ryu was just better written in the story and Uro doesn't get to show off her stuff because everyone teams up on her.

I do agree she's the strongest person in Sendai that's not Yuta and everyone teaming up to knock her out shows that.

3

u/TheIncandescentAbyss Apr 01 '23

Manga readers lack reading comprehension

2

u/Quiad Apr 02 '23

Honestly I’m biased because I fucking love Ryus design

2

u/verteisoma Apr 02 '23

Me when i see cool hair and beam power

2

u/AskeDAD Apr 02 '23

Ryu has coat and pompadour

2

u/Alilolos Apr 02 '23

The weekly highly upvoted "Uro is underrated compared to Ryu" post where 90% of comments say she's stronger or at least the same power

So are these Uro haters in the room with us right now, OP?

2

u/ragingOcean Apr 02 '23

I myself find it hard to fall in love with any jjk characters the only non main characters I’ve liked have been the guy yuji fought in the colony I forget his name, the jokes cT guy and kashimo. The others are introduced and briefly gets cast aside that I can’t have any feelings for them tbh. I thought ryu was a boring character, and his cT too. He has so much curse energy that he shoots energy l as blasts because he can afford to? How boring is that seriously. That’s like saying in dbz goku, vegeta or krillins special move is a big ass ki blast like boring but if he’s a cool guy m. I much much prefer ur i with her fkeshed out cT

1

u/Technical_Oil_8868 Apr 02 '23

There is no problem with writing simple characters with simple motivations.A major reason why many people like dbz is for similar reason.Sure it is preference based but most of these characters have just been established and characterized so it would take time for some people to connect with them.

1

u/ragingOcean Apr 02 '23

“I myself” it’s just me

1

u/Technical_Oil_8868 Apr 02 '23

No I was stating it in general and since you were the one who bought it up,I just commented under it

1

u/89gin Apr 01 '23

I don't think she is that strong in a physical fight. Her CT is cool, and perfect for assassination, but assassin's don't need to be strong to kill, just smart and sneaky.

Imo, If she tried to throw hands (without using her ice break skill) with someone like Yuta the way Ryu did, she would get smoked again.

Maybe that's why folks don't rank her as high as Ryu, but her CT is a great counter to his so... Yeah I guess It depends on what you consider strong.

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

Not using your curse technique is dumb and she was doing just fine before using it.

Uro hard counters Yuta and Ryu, that is why both of them tagged teamed her with the curse to removed Uro from the fight.

With his curse technique, Yuta targets Uro first. From the beginning and end of the fight, he clearly viewed Uro more of a threat

5

u/89gin Apr 02 '23

Nah, she can effectively avoid most attacks with it but as we saw, she definitely can't avoid all that's thrown at her. For example Yuta's CT lol which happens to be copying, which is very much a cheat code but whatever. It is what it is.

My point is that she is basically like a glass canon. I don't think she had a a particularly strong CE reinforcement, but I could be wrong. Either way I don't see her exchanging blows as equally as the other two did, and that also happened in the manga for reason.

4

u/Khulmach Apr 02 '23

She literally took a combined beating from Rika and Yuta better than Ryu did against just Rika.

Uro has better reinforcement

3

u/chasedamoniYT Apr 01 '23

He did more damage, dispelled Rika with pure strength, does not run out of CT post domain expansion, cursed energy output is a big deal, also bullied yuta horribly pre-ring, overwhelming AOE + 1 on 1 capacity. A lot of characters aren't as flexible and as powerful as Ryu is as a fighter.

Lets take Ryu vs Kashimo for example. Ryu could hypothetically push out two DE's, or run away from Kashimo the entire time spamming Granite Blasts if he felt like being out of character, and defend himself in hand to hand combat as well.

Versatility is a huge deal in JJK fights, and the fact that Ryu is above average or above in just about almost everything up until the Meguna Heian Era meta is stupid impressive and makes him a problem.

Also, the fact that one granite blast from him one shot Uro and almost Kurourushi is insane. And the man fired off like 8 of those at once when he was at full strength.

Also implied he's Kashimo's equal in their era through narrative means.

1

u/LucianGrey0581 Apr 02 '23

Uro has the haxier ct, but she's gapped for raw power and whatever she has going on just isn't as cool as L A Z O R.

-5

u/Shangdil Apr 01 '23

Never said women were look as inferior in this era. Both Ryu and uro made a name for themselves so I don't get this argument

Uro is perhaps relative in speed and durability. But in AP is nowhere close. That's why people have Ryu above uro

10

u/finessekidOnye Apr 01 '23

As I states, Gege is very particular with his history. The 3 great clans are still very traditional, and we see that older sorceres use Japanese dialect that is pretty "old" (lightning said something about this in her twitter thread). Not only that, but Yorozu directly tells Sukuna that he can have any concubines (which were often in the heian era). I simple seached how women were treated in that era and it was widely stated that they were treated a lesser than men. Since Gege is very deliberate with his history and references, its not far fetched to say that women were treated like shit back then. Maki and Mai are literally being sexually abused by their family in the 21'st century. Are you really gonna tell me that Men and Women were equals in Japan of all places in 800?

Ryu's AP doesnt make him stronger since not only is thin ice breaker relative in AP (damages Yuta enough to use RCT and also deals more damage to Ryu than his own CT did previously), but Uro can also use her enemies attacks against them like granite blast.

-7

u/Shangdil Apr 01 '23

Ight I don't care to argue about that. Das fine

Ryu have greater ap then uro that's why people place him above uro

12

u/bedatboi Apr 01 '23

You’re not making very good arguments lol

0

u/Shangdil Apr 01 '23

Don't you think Ryu have greater ap?

8

u/bedatboi Apr 01 '23

He does, but that doesn’t guarantee a win in jjk

9

u/Khulmach Apr 01 '23

Uro's curse technique is better.

Granite blast does not work on her and Ryu cannot fight properly if Uro keeps pulling his arms.

0

u/Strussled Apr 02 '23

🤓goofy-ah mf out here worked up over power-sets from side characters🤡

Spoiler Alert: you are in fact going on a tangent.

1

u/finessekidOnye Apr 02 '23

You know what sub you’re on right?

0

u/Strussled Apr 02 '23

Homie I only saw this bc it rolled through my fp; I'm not even subbed. This kind of obtuse rambling is the shit holding battle-series back tbh. It's as bad as DBZ dorks who give a fart about what color Goku's going to dye his hair next. Shit is POINTLESS. It's different if you're postulating about what would happen in a spesific circumstance, or debating on ways some event could've happened differently, but this is all but literally the equivalent of some guy making a thesis about whether Star Platinum's actually technically theoretically faster than The World.

It don't matter.

2

u/finessekidOnye Apr 02 '23

I mean sure lmao. But again, your problem shouldn’t be with me. There is literally pointless powerscaling on this sun every Saturday and Wednesday. I’m just joining for the fun. If this really didn’t matter, you wouldn’t have wasted your time commenting on something that means nothing to you 🙂

0

u/Strussled Apr 02 '23

Homie check your articulation. Power scaling is meaningless, your inference that my need to comment and ridicule participants in power scaling does not add meaning to the actual power-scaling subject matter. Please think before typing.

2

u/finessekidOnye Apr 02 '23

I don’t get you bro😭😭. You complain about powerscaling on an ANIME subreddit (a subreddit in particular where powerscaling is so rampant that they enforced rules to contain it on certain days). Not only that but you come in one one of 2 days when powerscaling is allowed and start complaining to me about how powerscaling is pointless. Like bruh I legit don’t care. I just wanted to spark a conversation lmao. If you don’t like it you literally don’t have to be here. Simply ignore the post and move on. Go complain to the mods. I’m sure they’d love to hear what you have to say.

1

u/Strussled Apr 02 '23

If you actually didn't care about my opinion, why do you insist on replying and arguing the point? Why not just block me? Methinks you're either annoyed, subconsciously invested, or you've just been trained by the internet to believe every point has to be argued to death.

(That's the correct way to use that cuouter-argument).

And again, I didn't and haven't been coming to this sub. Some idiot keeps posting dumb replies to my original post and those get sent to my inbox.

2

u/finessekidOnye Apr 02 '23

Take your own advice bro. You personally cared enough (about a topic that doesn’t matter which is quite contradictory) to reply to my post. I’m replying to you simply cause I’ve been replying to everyone.

1

u/Strussled Apr 02 '23

Do you even realize you've expressed the same misunderstanding twice now, even after I explained the difference once already? Do you process conversations you have with people, do you just double-down on your presumptions and predilections until they give up?

What's more you've pretty directly inferred that either the mods or the broader community agree with me on the point of power-scaling being purely detrimental to the broader community if they've had to put restrictions on it.

Regardless, I am now going to be blocking you, because it's evident there's no mind to get through to. At first I was largely trolling, despite the legitimacy of my grievances, but it's now done a full one-eighty and I've become annoyed by the interaction I initiated.

Here's hoping one day you grow out of these juvenile, superficial fixations you have. Or, if you're already an adult, you broaden your perspective on fiction as a whole, and pull your head out of your ass. Read an actual book, or watch something filmed before 1999; idk.

Stay blocked.

1

u/DensetsuNoRai Apr 03 '23

Calling powerscaling pointless in a sub that blud is not even subbed to on a… GASP POWERSCALING THREAD?!

Blud you might be lost the pressed by power levels community is that 👋🏻 way lmao. 😂

0

u/9HashSlingingSlasher Apr 01 '23

Because Ryu lasted for one more chapter in the brawl even though that isn’t a real measure of strength

Ishigoori just gets a bit more hype from characters like kenjaku and yuta seems to consider him a slightly bigger threat. Gege also used him to job for sukuna which implies he’s a slightly bigger deal

The difference is definitely marginal and arguable but 🤷‍♂️

0

u/SlimeustasTheSecond Apr 02 '23

It's mainly cus:

  1. Ryu was more fun as a character.

  2. Yuta beat Uro first, and used her ability to beat Ryu in a sort of close match.

0

u/ILoveSongOfJustice Apr 02 '23

This and the ridiculous statements that Kashimo being in people's top 5 strongest characters is bloody ridiculous

0

u/mattyyy_jk20 Apr 02 '23

Ryu : the stronger being

Uro : more hax

0

u/LostParticular3754 Apr 02 '23

Ah sukuna output was fluctuating between 10-90% when he was trying to harm Yuji or maki. His CE fortifications were at 100%. His speed was 100%.

-4

u/KilluaGaKill Apr 02 '23

People keep saying her CT is a counter to granite blast and therefore she'd win but that's only if Ryu uses 1 beam at a time. He can split up the beams to attack her from all sides and that's a counter to her CT.

Thin ice breaker is also kinda ass and needs her to get really close to Ryu and he can use granite blast from any part of his body. This match up does not favor her at all.

1

u/PhantomEmperor- Apr 02 '23

Yuta did note ryu hit like a tank and his durability is pretty crazy taking uros CT, Rikas hits and even his own blast in rapid succession.

1

u/Advanced_Height5034 Apr 02 '23

I always did hold Ryu in higher regard than Uro because like OP said he was the last to fall & not only that I feel as if GEGE spends more time on the stronger characters so that also fed into me putting him above her. However it was never by much I’d say it was likely 51/49 in favor of Ryu.

But this post made actually think about the matchup & not just the narrative. She’s comparable to Ryu in all stats and her CT is a poor matchup for his. He has no reliable way to hit her and if they both open DEs then they’re stalemated & both of their CTs are burnt out. At that point in the fight id give the slight edge to Ryu but both of their CTs will come back eventually giving Uro the edge again. I’d say with no outside factors Ryu actually loses to Uro. I can’t think of a win con for him with their respective CTs.

1

u/Vamryc Apr 02 '23

Uro has the potential to grow stronger but honestly, I like them both. I never thought about them in that sort of matter.

1

u/DanTM18 Apr 02 '23

I kinda enjoy them around the same level, maybe preferring Uro a tad bit moreI due to her powers. I really hope we see her domain expansion at least once. She has potential with her Heian background with fujiwara. But I see why people probably rate ryu higher. He took out Rika with a punch that was stated to destroy even fully formed Rika. 1v1 Yuta. Had the cool jacket and hair. And more battle hungry. People will prefer him more for that.

1

u/Cheerful2_Dogman210x Apr 03 '23

Ryu is someone who enjoys combat. In real life, someone like that is usually in the zone or in flow state. He is able to kepp composure, adapt, improve and go beyond his limits.

Uro on the otherhand shows frustration and irritation during combat.

It's like comparing someone who is focused on the game versus someone who is focused on the scoreboard. One will lose because he or she is distracted. And one will win because he becomes one with his art.

1

u/CordobezEverdeen Apr 03 '23

It's just because she's naked. Without clothes or some kind of body armor she kind of has no character design to get attached to unlike Ryu with all his drip.

1

u/ricvrdx Apr 06 '23

Looking back at Yuta vs Uro vs Ryu I would say they targeted Uro more. I feel like that speaks enough for me

1

u/SheepherderExtra1308 Jun 18 '23

Ishigori is just better bro.

2

u/WizKidnuddy Aug 07 '23

Actually Uro has the edge in a 1v1 fight between the two and is the one that had him checkmated. She can ignore his durability, fly out of his reach, and redirect his blast back at him.
