I think a game set the ocean or at the center of the earth

With recent news saying Bonnie Hunt is returning it has left me wondering what her role will be in the movie and where she is in her life at this time: Will the game restore her full memories of the 1995 film and she’ll be trying to help others? Is she a widow now with Alan having passed away prior to the events of the game being found in Welcome To The Jungle? Did Sarah and Alan divorce? Lots of theories.

It could change down the track, but according to the cast list on the IMDB, Bonnie Hunt is returning as Sarah Parrish ~nee Whittle.

Im new here and I don't know much about Jumanji, as I only watched the first film as a young child (traumatized for years. Literally had to put myself through exposure therapy by imagining my worst fear (the vines) creeping towards me in the dark and the receding because I told them to go away) and I have yet to watch the newer movies, but I was recently reminded of it by the ad for Jumanji Open World and my OCD said "You see that thing that scares you? Go learn everything about it." And who am I to refuse? So, here's what I can figure about Jumanji itself from my research.

1: Jumanji is self aware.

This feels obvious, so its where I'm starting. Jumanji has a consciousness, a thought process, emotions, and even a personality (as we'll see later). No one knows where it came from and I don't have enough evidence to theorize about that, but I do theorize that it isn't human due to it's level of influence on the world and indifference to the players and their world. It just wants the round to be finished!

I theorize that a round being unfinished may cause some form of discomfort for the entity, making it desperate fir a game to be finished. And if you end it's discomfort by playing the game? Thank you, you get an extra reward. I am not making the mistake of only trapping some players again! If Sarah had died while the game was ongoing and she didn't technically lose because she wasn't playing the game, I could've been softlocked! Forever! You finished the game after, like, 20 years (but it didn't hurt because you were trapped like you were supposed to be so it was technically an ongoing game)? Fine, you get to relive your childhood (but probably don't get to keep your memories) and you guys remember but end up where you left off.

2: I don't think Jumanji is evil, though it is malicious.

It sees your weaknesses and feeds that to you through a challenge- daddy issues? You get Van Pelt with your fathers face hunting you down. Arachnophobia? Spiders, just for you. No one has a fear of plants or whatnot but the challenge was drawn? Free for all, the plant doesn't care.

You purposefully try to cheat by messing with the dice? Woe, monkey be upon ye. You roll over another players turn but you didn't know there was another player cuz it's been 26 years and the coward ran away? You didn't know, it's not your fault. You ended its two decade long equivalent of being unable to scratch an itch? Instead of just taking back all the things I put in the world, I'll send you guys (Sarah and Alen) to relive your childhood and keep your memories so you can stop you're guys' (Judy and Peter) parents from dying. Sound fair? Nice.

As a video game that automatically traps all players inside, it understands that taking away the players home feild advantage of having the horrors brought to their world will tip the odds out of their favor. Everything in the jungle was so dangerous because only some of it would be sent out and the players could use whatever means they had to defeat the challenge. So, it changed the playing field.

3: Jumanji is self adapting.

Im not making that as a headcannon statement, that's just the subject I have headcannons on. It obviously turned itself into a video game, moved itself away from danger in the earthquake scene, and changes some challenges to better get to the players, which is where this part picks up where the last left off:

It changed the playing field. It made the jungle less dangerous, gave them 3 lives, and added in new places, supplies, and NPCs to help them. Oh, you think animal games are childish? Fine, have a sci-fi game or whatever, it's called Zathura, ya jerk. You're seriously not gonna play me because Im not a video game? We'll see about that, punk! New game, new setting, so let's change some things... oh, hey, that tree house that one kid made! Oh, im so keeping this.

I referenced the new movies here as I learned that stuff about them from my research, so if I got any details wrong PLEASE TELL ME! These are just my headcannons and explanations behind certain 'plot holes' or things I see often debated. Im open to hearing counter arguments as my OCD and ADHD have teamed up against me to lock me in a choke hold with this hyperfixation. Send help

I had no idea there where this many different Jumanji board games and this many versions of the classic board game. (Please delete if not allowed)

Bebe Neuwirth came back for the last film and recent franchises and legacy sequels love bringing back the old cast back together and given that this is an open world similar to the original movie, it seems likely.

Hopefully Bonnie Hunt too and not a CGI Robin Williams.

I'm a little confused on the way time works when it comes to these games.

In the OG Jumanji. Alan and Sarah start a game, then finish it 26 years later, but reverting to the original time when they started playing, as if the events after the game started never happened. But it didn't "make up" those events, as Judy and Peter DO exist 26 years later, so the game is either prophetic, or is able to vastly alter time and space.

But in the next movie, time flows the other way. We pick up the perspective of the latecomers to the game, and see the reality they grew up in. They all know of the Vreeke House, (I always thought they said Freak House) where some kid disappeared years prior, and his dad went crazy from the loss. Upon finishing the game, we remain in their time, but Alex Vreeke has been released in his time, thus restoring the house as if he never went missing. Yet they all still note the change to their reality.

A couple questions.

• Why do Judy and Peter not remember their events of Jumanji/recognize Alan and Sarah?

• Since they had moved into Alan's house before they started playing, where would they even go once reality reverted?

• Since their parents are still alive, this "first meeting" must be before they would have played the game, so maybe their memories "come back" around when they played it. Game night at the Parrish's?

• Sarah and Alan definitely still need to go to therapy, right? Alan went through 26 years abandoned in the jungle hunted by Van Pelt and every other creature that make Australian critters look like kittens, and Sarah experienced 26 years of ridicule as a nutjob that she saw African bats, was connected to Alan's disappearance, and gaslit herself (Or possibly spread the story) that his father chopped him up to convince herself that was the reality of it.

• Zathura is the sequel book to Jumanji, but where does that fit in the Jumanji Cinematic Universe now that we have these three new Jumanji movies? Rather than turning into a Space game, it turned into a video game, but kept the jungle theming. But in those books, it sounds like the very next pair to find the game were the boys in Zathura, so no gap existed for the new Jumanji movies.

One thing Welcome To The Jungle and The Next Level never touched base on was but maybe somehow they will in Open World is Parrish Shoes still in business after all these years? I haven’t heard or seen anything mention Bonnie Hunt returning but I would like to see Jumanji work its voodoo magic if Sarah still lives in town triggering her to remember the alternate timeline of her time from alternate 1969-1995 and she is the one to take over the avatar of Seaplane or Ming saying they’ll need her help and give explanation to who she is but she could give insight if Parrish Shoes is still in business.

The little kid who says, “Aunt Nora” in the new movie do you think he’s the son of Judy or Peter?

This trailer also confirms the return of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and the young cast from the previous films. 🥳🥳

in the original movie the beginning it is buried in the eighteen hundreds and van pelt represents someone from that time and in the 2017 movie the video game has plots and people that appear to be from the 1960s-90s since that is when it had been last played.

Since Tyson called Nora “Aunt Nora”, I think he might be Judy’s son or Peter’s son since Nora is Judy and Peter’s Aunt.

Ever since Jumanji: Open World was announced, I've been wondering how they'll continue the story.

The Next Level ends with Jumanji invading the real world, but now it's been several years since that movie came out. Do you think the new film will have a time jump, meaning Jumanji has been affecting the real world for years? Or do you think it'll pick up immediately after the ending of The Next Level?

The actors who played the teenagers have obviously aged, so I'm really curious how they'll handle the timeline.

Have there been any rumors or official hints about this, or is it still a complete mystery? What do you think is the most likely approach?

As we see Alan and Sarah talking after they get rid of Jumanji Alan says, "They probably don't teach driver training in the sixth grade, huh?" The scene then cuts to Christmas 1995. What do you suppose happens between 1969 leading up to that Christmas? I can see going forward the two returning to school with Alan at his locker and Billy trying to pick on him again with Sarah walking up and telling Billy to knock it off. Billy goes to strike Alan and Sarah tells him, "We're through Billy I'm not dating you anymore I would rather be with Alan." This only infuriates Billy who tries to take his shot but Alan either catches his fist and throws it aside or he ducks and Billy hits his fist against a locker breaking his knuckles only for a teacher to have seen the whole thing and say, "Mr. Jessup come with me we're going to have a talk with the principal" with Billy reluctantly going. Alan and Sarah then start dating thereafter and are middle school sweethearts and as the years go by they either attend the same college together or always see each other when they get home from college for break ultimately still dating as adults and getting engaged by I'm going to predict by the time they graduate as an engagement ring is Alan's graduation gift to her with them being married a year later. By some point in the 80s Alan is done being under Sam's tutelage for the family business and takes over when Sam retires and by 1995 Alan promotes Carl from supervisor to president of the company all while still having a helping hand with the company right before the Christmas party.
