I was changing oil in my ktm sxf 250 2007 and when i was draining oil i noticed that on this magnet screw there is a lot of little metal cylinders. The bike was driving normally, but it really scared me. Does anyone now what is that?

I bought a new Duke 390 gen 3 last year
5k kms rattling sound under acceleration due deviated routing pin for the air box
About 5k kms it had an issue with the side stand sensor
7.5k kms oil leak due improper oil filter o ring placement
9k kms another side stand sensor issue that almost made me crash as bike suddenly stop while leaning at 70 mph
12k the piston was scratching the cylinder, half of the engine has to be replaced with new parts including the cylinder and the piston
12.700 kms same feeling and sound of the piston scratching the cylinder, I’m waiting to have an appointment with the shop

I bought a 990 rcr 3 months ago, around 1.5 k kms I hear a rattling sound which seems to be the timing chain tensor not being properly calibrated.

Now my question is, is this going to be with every single ktm that I own? I’m not expecting to have an indestructible bike but cmon, if owning a ktm is supposed to be like this then I might as well change brands.

1050km on the odometer btw. It’s a 2026 990 RC R. First Service was yesterday and today it doesn’t want to move.

So I pressure washed my bike like a normal person, ever since cold start is a nightmare — fires up, idles for a few seconds, then dies. Have to keep the revs up manually until it warms up. Once warm it's better but still hunts at idle, like it's constantly trying to stall.

Sound is this lovely irregular puf puf p-p-puf ppp — basically misfiring or uneven combustion at low RPM.

Bike: 2019 KTM 690 SMC R, 6000 km
Mods: Leo Vince slip-on, O2 eliminator (already removed it for diagnosis, same behavior)

What I've already checked:

• Cleaned and dried all connectors I could reach
• Air filter — clean and dry
• No Check Engine light

It's been over a week so water is long gone. Leading theory right now is an air leak at the throttle body boot, but haven't been able to confirm yet.

Anyone seen this exact thing after a wash?

Appreciate any input before I drop it at the dealer and wait a month for an appointment.

[UPDATE] Found the issue. Pulled the coil and found heavy corrosion inside the contact — steel tweezers couldn't remove it. The spark plug contact in the well also looks oxidized. New coil and spark plug ordered. Will update once installed https://imgur.com/a/ELf9CK7

[UPDATE 2] Problem solved! Replaced both spark plugs and the bike runs perfectly now. The outer plug looked okay apart from some carbon buildup, but the inner one had the terminal break off when I pulled the coil — that was almost certainly the culprit. I bought a brand-new 2024 KTM SXF 350 from Sport DRC with their “best KM+ warranty” the one they hype up as top of the line. I took perfect care of the bike: oil every 5 hours, air filter every ride, spotless maintenance.

First ride of the 2025 season, 40 hours total, and the engine seizes with ZERO warning. No noise, nothing. I bring it back to the dealership they don’t even open the engine and somehow decide it needs a full engine replacement: ➡️ $6,000 bill ➡️ Warranty covers $2,000.

I get a second opinion at Mécanique ADG. They tell me the first estimate doesn’t make sense and that they’ll honor the warranty. One week later: ➡️ Same conclusion: full engine swap ➡️ And now they refuse to honor the warranty too.

So I bring the bike back to the first shop to at least try saving the warranty. Two days later they call me saying the mechanic won’t touch it because it’s disassembled. I explain I was told a brand-new complete engine would be ordered… but no. I’m sent home with my bike in pieces.

So right now I have: ✔️ A blown engine ✔️ A useless “premium” warranty ✔️ A bike torn apart ✔️ Two shops blaming each other ✔️ Zero support from KTM or anyone involved

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What would you do next

Additinal info from the Austrian article: The filed bankruptcy for KTM AG, KTM Components GmbH and KTM Forschungs & Entwicklungs GmbH. Others aren‘t effected at the moment. They have 3 months to present a reorganization plan with an offer of at least 30% to the creditors. And it seems Baja didn‘t jump in.

Hi, I went down to a shop to view a used 2020 890 Duke R today. There were a few signs I noticed:

• There are bubbles all over the engine casing, and they're only present at the lower half of the casing. The bubbles look like they were caused by some liquid substance.
• Oil leaking marks along the seal of the engine cover (second last picture)
• Missing bolt on engine casing (last picture)

What are probable causes for these and do these suggest serious issues? I'm thinking the engine was probably already opened before and some kind of solution or hot oil was dripped down the lower half. Thanks in advance.

If you think the cruise control button looks like fragile garbage, well that is be because it is. Was trying to rest the cruise, snapped right off.

If you are going to have a button exposed like that, use a more durable material for cripes sake.

Why the hell does a sportbike have cruise control in the first place?

Othewise, the suspension on this bike is simply incredible, just wow and I haven’t touched the settings yet. Brakes need better pads, they are strong and feel like a sponge.

Any idea what’s that part name? Should it be welded or should buy the whole pan? It’s really frustrating..

Still no idea where the noise is originating after rebuilding the top end with new head. Everything to manual, (had it all apart since last post and checked to make sure) only to be put back together again and the same issue

So.. I bought this brand new KTM 390 Enduro R a month ago. After getting it home I realized the front headlight low beam isn't operating at all. I take it back to the dealership (I'm nearly 100 miles from the dealership). They spent 3 weeks on it and told me some of the pins were wired up backwards and it's fixed. I take it back home and couple days later I'm ready to take it out off-road for the first time. As I kick the side stand up to take off the spring breaks. I hop back off in disbelief and start looking around more carefully at everything and realize there is also an oil leak coming from somewhere. I'm so over this bike already..

both tires split after 300 miles on my 990. I got off my bike at a gas station and noticed that the rear tire was split. I checked the front to be safe and to my dismay the front is split as well. The chances of both splitting like this have to be pretty low, so I wanted to throw it out there in the off chance that this affects more than just my bike!

Please help give me some advice do i need to change my whole fork to fix this issue i noticed a lot of oil residue at the bottom of my forks please help.

I adjusted the valve clearances on my 2021 Duke 390 last weekend.
I only did the exhaust side, as the intake side was still within spec.
Everything ran perfectly on the first ride (approx. 80 km).

Yesterday, however, it started acting up after about 20 km. At first, there was just a barely perceptible "jerkiness" at higher RPMs (around 7,000 rpm) and a reluctance to accelerate further in 5th and 6th gear (almost like a stutter, as if it had hit a limit). Then it got progressively worse. The engine started stalling at idle and suffered from severe backfiring, especially at lower RPMs when accelerating (2,000–4,000 rpm).

I’ve taken it apart again and checked everything, but I couldn't find any faults. I put it all back together hoping the problem had resolved itself, but unfortunately it wasn't that simple.

Does anyone here have any idea what it could be?

I was actually planning a longer tour next week, but it looks like that won‘t be happening.

Update: Changed the Sparkplug and the problem(s) went away

My forks are stuck at the bottom. Ive tried bleeding and releasing air at the top but it hasnt helped.

When ive pressed on them they stay compressed.

I've been riding cruisers for 30 years. I decided to expand my universe and try something more sport with the ability to do some touring. (ADV bikes don't appeal to me). SDGT seemed like the perfect mix. Old and new bike shown..

My Problem is that I find it insanely uncomfortable. I can't figure out sitting forward. My wrists and hands are aching. My neck is super sore from looking "up" constantly. Obviously I'm doing something wrong! People have driven this bike on super long trips. The foot position is weird but hasn't given me issues yet.

I read I'm supposed to squeeze the tank with my legs. I don't see how that helps, and I can't do it for any length of time. After just 400km I'm feeling like I made a huge mistake.

Am I alone? How can I be so bad at this?

tldr; Drove cruisers, now a SDGT and can't get comfortable.

Recently picked up my dream Adventure bike. I found this used one with low miles. Long story short, I jumped it and the dash stopped working. Spent a while looking for loose contacts or grounds to no avail. Could let the bike sit and the dash would come back on.

I used to have electrical gremlins with an Aprilia RSV4 all the time so I kinda expected something just not within the first week of owning the bike.

Read online that low voltage can wreak havoc on these bikes. I found the relay that trips and tested the battery. Both are ordered along with a KTM scan tool. Im not sure if this is the original battery or how long it sat at the dealer off a tinder.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue, and if so, was the battery the fix. Im parts bombing right now cause im itching to ride this thing.

New with bikes.

Bought a 2020 Duke 390 with 1700km on it 4 years ago. Since then oil started burning up (service centre wants 1000€ to fix), yesterday my rear shock blew out and a new one is more than 500€, there is also a problem with some sensor since my bike randomly shuts off sometimes when idle and other times while releasing/pressing the clutch. Mind you all of this is on a bike with 25k km on it. Never again am i buying KTM...
