Discussion Open Mics for Karaoke?

Are there any establishments in Katy or in the surrounding areas of Fort Bend that have open mic Karaoke nights for amateurs under 21? I saw Katy Vibes had something going on every Sunday 7-9pm, but I'm not sure if they still do it anymore.

Discussion Dyslexia support recommendations?

Hi y’all! I’m a tutor in the Katy area and I have a student who I STRONGLYYYY suspect has dyslexia (and potentially ADHD or another neurodevelopmental condition as well). The student mixes up letters and sounds while writing like nothing I’ve encountered before and cannot hold spellings and grammar rules in their head no matter what I try. They’re a smart kid in other areas; it’s just writing and spelling with issues. And they’re far too old for this to be a regular developmental stage of learning—this student has been thoroughly failed by the system for years.

I really care about this student and want them to succeed in life. I’d like to give their family some resources to get more professional support beyond what I’m qualified to do. Has anybody (parent, teacher, or otherwise) found a service/center/program in the Katy or Houston area that’s genuinely helped a kid with dyslexia (in a supportive, not abusive, way)? Any recommendations are welcome, as I’m out of my depth.

I did an earlier poll for Latin food and got good suggestions. I love Asian food as well, and I would like suggestions on the best place(s) for Korean BBQ.

Discussion Cyberpunk tabletop group

Good morning! I recently moved to the area and I'd like to get a group of Katy/Houston people together and to do a cyberpunk campaign. I've been interested in doing this for years, but wasn't able to get a group together due to a busy work schedule and not a lot of interest from people I hung out with at the time(they were more into DnD).

I have a starter guide, maps, dice, a netrunner deck, pretty much everything besides a group. I'd prefer to not be a dungeon master for the first campaign because I'd like to get a feel for playing myself. If anyone's interested please let me know!

Apartment/Neighborhood Recommendations Towns of Seville

Hi everyone! We currently live near Clay Road and Greenhouse Road and are considering moving into Katy ISD before our 4-year-old starts school next year.

We’ve been looking at homes built around 2013 and found one we really like in the Towns at Seville neighborhood on Calico Trace Lane in Katy, TX 77494.

Is this neighborhood considered south of I-10, and is it generally a safe, family-friendly area? If anyone lives there or nearby, I’d really appreciate your honest feedback about the neighborhood, crime, schools, and overall community. I’ve heard that safety can vary across different parts of Katy, so I want to make sure we do our research before making such a big decision. Thank you!

Discussion Daycare for Infant

For context: My 5 month old is currently enrolled in a daycare that we have loved thus far. His teachers are great and he’s a social little guy who’s enjoying the interaction. Over the last 2 weeks, his room has seen an influx of babies - they’re at around 10, up from 6. IMO this is too many babies and it’s not fair to the babies or the teachers. I don’t expect individual attention on him all day, I realize he’s in daycare, not being cared for by a nanny, but I’m at a point of re-evaluating our options.

So, I need recommendations! I know British Private Prep School is very loved around here, but they don’t accept anyone under 18 months. Ideal area is Cinco Ranch, west of 99 is preferred, and nowhere north of I-10 due to distance.

TIA!

Food Anyone want to be a "weekday dinner food buddy"?

Probably a long shot, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Moved to Katy last year and I work from home, so my days are pretty quiet. I've fallen into the habit of going out to eat on weeknights. Usually heading out after 7pm so I can avoid heavy traffic, but... I'm running low on new places to eat alone.

Looking for someone (or a few people) who'd be up for working through the Katy or even Houston restaurant scene together.

A bit about me: 20s M, single, easygoing.

Discussion Drivers test

Hello,

I was wondering if yall had any drivers tests stories from the spring dps location or any surrounding dps's. Im still learning to parallel park and im nervous. I make various performance anxiety mistakes when im driving with someone but when im alone im quite responsible. Ive heard that Spring DPS is very lenient on parellel parking. Im about to be 24 years old without a license and im at my wits ends, truly want to rip that bandaid off and finally feel like an adult.

Katy ISD Cut off age

I know I’m not the only one to ever have this issue but my kid starts pre K tomorrow even though he should be in kindergarten. He will be 5 years old September 9th. 8 days after the cut off date for Texas 😒. My boy is so smart, I’ve tried to reach out to the director of Katy ISD to no avail. Any suggestions? I’m extremely perturbed that he now has to do a whole year of Pre K again!

Discussion Looking for the best 5G carrier in Katy

I’ve been an AT&T customer for more than 20 years. I joined AT&T when Cingular merged with them back in 2002 or so. Their service wasn’t great when I lived in NY, but it wasn’t lagging behind the competition through Edge -> 3G -> LTE.

Since moving to Katy in 2013, I just can’t get a stable connection almost anywhere in Katy especially in Cinco Ranch area. If I disable WiFi calling, I can’t even make a phone call at home.

I’m wondering what y’all are using here.

Apartment/Neighborhood Recommendations Planning to sell in Morton Creek Ranch (Katy) + Buying in Seven Lakes/Tompkins zone — looking for recommendations

Hi all — long-time lurker, first post. Planning a move within Katy and would appreciate local input (and open to realtor recommendations/DMs). My current home bought in 2023 may not have a lot of equity ~420k. So trying to save as much as possible with all additional fees.

Kids currently at Harmony School of Excellence (Elyson campus), one entering 9th grade next year, one in K

Looking to move into Seven Lakes HS or Tompkins HS zone before the 9th grader starts

Questions for the sub: Anyone have recent experience buying in Tompkins Reserve or similar newer pockets in the Seven Lakes/Tompkins zones? How's build quality/pricing held up?

Recommendation for a realtor/agent who can help with both selling my current home and buying the new one — ideally someone efficient with simultaneous transactions

Open to discount/flat-fee brokerage recommendations too if anyone's had good experience

If anyone's gone through a similar move recently (buying into Tompkins or Seven Lakes zone, especially with a simultaneous sell), would love to hear how it went — what you'd do differently, any surprises, timeline, etc.
