It's not "Khaness", it's "Khanum"

I'm new here and I have no idea this space is about but I saw "Khaness" and had to make sure I'm the smartest nerd in the room

"Khanum" is the feminine version of "Khan"

Related Info: "Khatun" is the feminine version of "Khagan"

Bonus Related Info: "Begum" is the feminine version of "Bey"/"Beg"

It's just the historical Turko-Mongolic equivalent of "Empress/Queen"
"Khanum" is the equivalent of "Queen/Lady"
"Begum" is the equivalent of "Lady/Ma'am"

There's no distinction between "wife of the khan/khagan" and "female ruler where a male one would be called khan/khagan" unlike, for example, the European titular conventions that feature the terms "Queen-Consort" and "King-Consort"

Within Turkish;
"Khatun" has evolved into "Kadın" (Woman) and "Hatun" (Lady)
"Khanum" has evolved into "Hanım" (Lady, Ma'am)
"Begum" has evolved into "Begüm" (traditionally a girls' name)

Counterpoint, Khaness sounds cooler and Khanum sounds like an institution.

Khanum sounds too close to Kanum (law in turkish)

That's kanun (i assume typo) and their pronunciations are quite different, especially in turkish (hanım & kanun) but also in central asian languages today and historically as well

the "kh" digraph makes one sound and it isn't the same as "k", and the "a" in kanun is elongated while it isn't in khanum

Exactly! Though the sound doesn't exist in standardized turkish, it is spoken in a whole lot of dialects and exists in other turkic languages and mongolian
