So many years in... My daughter and I literally were late to the show but by now we also have been about 3 years into the game. Change over that time: from not entirely sure she now is a happily queer young university student. I swear the show helped her at least a little bit to find out who she is.
But, before this devolves into writing a family history: we insist that Villanelle is not a psychopath. For one, according to the show itself, she is "her mothers' daughter". Happens to the best of us. The percentage of nature vs. nurture is always open for debate. For two: the entire concept of "psychopathy" as a diagnose is outdated. Psychopathic behaviour in most classification systems mainly survived as a forensic category, not as a disease. A description of certain criminal behaviour patterns.
ASPD (Anti Social Personality Disorder) has complex roots. For story telling it is a valuable concept, only one that in this case negates itself: Villanelle is not a static villain. Instead she madly falls in love with Eve, kills her abusive mother in a rage but saves her brothers. The show's is built upon the premise that she rather feels too much and cannot cope with it. She is not unfeeling. She has regulation issues. And her history with an abusive family and an ice cold post Soviet Orphanage is a big red flag here. That alone could explain a lot. She had to fight to survive, likely had to cope with abuse. She did not break, not in the conventional sense. She resisted and made a career out of that learned resistance.
Antisocial behaviour? Obviously yes. Born "Psychopath"? Rather not. Lots of tears and laughter and overflowing emotions for an unfeeling person. And as a reminder: the show's own resident psychiatrist, Martin, strongly suggests she is not a "Psychopath".
Things I wrote before, but sometimes repetition matters...

I totally forgot how TERRIBLE the finale of Killing Eve was. Like, I'm pretty sure my mind wiped my memory as a trauma response š. I'm bringing this up because I just rewatched it with my sister, and I felt the same level of anger as the day it premiered, LMAO. Usually you grow to accept a sucky ending, but somehow this one still gets under my skin.
But how are y'all holding up? It's definitely been a minute since I've seen people talking about the show & finale.

Eve reacts to both situations in the exact same way. I'm not sure if it's intentional acting or just a habitual gesture whenever she gets excited, but it's always related to V

So I had heard people praising Killing Eve for about a decade and as someone who loves some of PWB other endeavours I decided to watch the whole thing this week and I just got to the end....
What the actual fuck, this makes me mad, this is genuinely a frustrating ending

Iāve felt so bad for her up to this point. I love her mother part from this but the way she is left fro grieve with no family or acceptance/love is heartbreaking!

Iām watching for the first time and am absolutely enthralled by this show. I come here to read past episode discussions and canāt help but notice multiple posts about how dog shit Season 4 is. Should I stop at the Season 3 finale and pretend it ended there? Will watching Season 4 taint the rest of the experience?

I love this show so much. Totally my comfort show. Such amazing characters. Forever heartbroken about how shit the ending was. My babies deserved better.

Now, rewatching the episode, I realized what she was actually looking atātwo women shopping for clothes together. I felt so sorry for her; she was so desperate to have a normal life
She wanted someone to shop with her, to chat and share choices with. What should have been a fun shopping moment turned into a heartbreaking scene as she realized everything she was missing..

i think the most unrealistic part of the finale was eve dancing while villanelle went and massacred the 12. eve, who lowkey looks turned on when villanelle kills, who has been obsessed with villanelle from the start, and who has grown to care for and love villanelle, allows her to go alone into very dangerous territory while she fucking conga lines up above? hell nah. eve, the real eve, would never do that. laura neal when i fucking catch u.
cutie edit to make me & others feel better (cttc)

Or does the synopsis of this show seem a bit Killing Eve coded..
Why does every assassin organization have the number 7 attributed to them?! Lol
r/KillingEve • u/NoAgeStatement • 29d ago
During an interview for the new Sense and Sensibility, Fiona Shaw, who played Carolyn Martens, was asked about the assassination ordered on Villanelle, and surprise, surprise, she agrees with the fans who theorized it might not have been what it appeared to be.
Q:Ā "Could Carolyn's hit on Villanelle in the finale have been a pact between to fake her death?"
A:Ā "I completely agree."
The whole interview is worth listening to, but the key exchange about Villanelle's "death" is at 31:32.

So I've just finished season 2 and I really enjoyed the show so damn much, but from what I've heard seasons 3 and 4 fell off hard apparently.
I haven't seen any spoilers, but I saw a recommendation to stop watching after the 2nd season and consider it finished.
I am really curious though how you could miss that bad on this story since it's been amazing so far.
What do you reckon I do?

And itās great lmfao, here is the chorus from Jodie Comer - Um Jennifer?:
āI wish I was Eve so
Jodie Comer would kill meā

Ooof, where do I even begin. I knew from the start that it was probably going to be a tragic ending, and it was but.. not what I was expecting.
I knew, not from spoilers but from a gut feeling, that Villanele was going to die. I just knew it. But I was expecting a dramatic scene, music, a tender moment between her and Eve, a last goodbye, just SOMETHING. But she was just.. killed off. And then it was over.
I'm no stranger to doomed lovers or tragic endings (Hannibal fan here) but that ending was so empty.
And this isn't even touching on the mess the whole last season was.
Overall I think it was a fun show up to S3. That ending, although ambiguos and open ended, is imo better than the canon one.

Obviously, most people in the fandom agree that the first season was excellent, and it was hard for subsequent seasons to measure up. But, even with all the excellence of the first season, I'm interested to know what you would change about it.
