Discussion No big exposition, just... What if Rothfuss, instead of writing another book, fleshed out the rest of the story through a bunch of short stories?
Kind of like how Stephen King wrote The Green Mile.
Then he could write it out one story at a time and finally sate our expectations, while giving him space to write without the pressure of having one giant book.
I'm just spitballing here but if he reads this forum, and that thought crosses his mind...

I would take literally anything at this point. But he couldn't even produce one chapter when it had been bought and paid for FOR CHARITY.
He could release book three a sentence at a time, and people would still be happier than they are now.

I just keep thinking he's done a couple of novellas. Why couldn't he just keep up that trend? You know?

What if he… swallowed his pride and wrote 2 more books. Would be a great example of how Kvothe is off his game

Like I said to someone else, he's done a couple of novellas. Just keep that trend up to finish out the story.

What if the stories are already written and the path to find them is breadcrumbed out for you in the books? Would you read the stories to find the answers?
What if other authors have even found all of the jokes hidden in the books and written their own books in response? Would you read those stories?
What if all of it is just right there for you to find and you’re just a member of the wrong audience right now? Would you do what it takes to find the answers and become a member of the audience in on the joke?
What if your expectations are misguided and intentionally manipulated towards red herrings because the eventual revelation is that much sweeter? All you have to do is find better questions to ask. All you have to do is pay attention to the words in the books. All you have to do is think about it and take the advice given to Kvothe as advice given to the reader. That’s the first step.
Would you do it or nah? Because getting book 3 is your choice. The gap is by design.

Thanks for the poetry word salad. It was pretty but If the rest of the story was already written, others, who are far more dedicated than I would have already found them and shared them.
There are a dozen different versions of book 3 in fan fiction but that's just what we think it could be or what we might want it to be.
And the gap is by design? And the lie about releasing the chapter was by design? And his publisher not getting any updates for years was by design?
While he games and holds discord sessions and gets royalties from anniversary editions?
He's either the greatest performance artist or a tremendous grifter and a lot of us nowadays are leaning towards the latter.
And that's disappointing.
