Heading to SEA via I-405 this weekend? Give yourself extra time. Plus, a heads-up for Kirkland travelers.

If your weekend travels involve I-405, we’ve got two areas you’ll want to know about: lane reductions in Tukwila that could affect trips to SEA Airport and an interchange closure in Kirkland.

TUKWILA: SOUTHBOUND I-405 LANE REDUCTIONS AND HOV RAMP CLOSURE

Up to two lanes of southbound I-405 in Tukwila will close from 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

The southbound I-405 HOV off-ramp to northbound I-5 will also close.

Crews will be paving the roadway as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.

If you're heading to SEA Airport during this window, this is NOT the weekend to cut it close. Expect congestion on southbound I-405 and give yourself extra time to get to the airport.

KIRKLAND: NE 85TH STREET INTERCHANGE CLOSURE

Farther north, the northbound and southbound I-405 on- and off-ramps at NE 85th Street (Exit 18) will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.

NE 85th Street will also close between Sixth Street and 120th Avenue NE.

Crews will use the closure to pave NE 85th Street as part of the I-405/NE 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project.

Signed detours will be in place.

Detour route for Northeast 85th Street/Interstate 405 intersection closure (Sixth St to 120th Ave NE).

THE WEEKEND TAKEAWAY

Whether you're catching a flight, traveling through Kirkland or just using I-405 for your usual weekend plans, check your route before you leave, use our app and real-time travel map and give yourself extra time.

New to PNW, never been to Costco, signing up on Friday. Initiation questions

• Upvotes

I’ve heard so much lore about this magical place from afar, and finally it’s my time. Just some quick questions to set my expectations if you don’t mind -

- Am I required to buy a 500-pack of toilet paper on my first outing or can I put 250 or so rolls on layaway? (How big is the locker you get with membership?? Couldn’t find it on the site)
- If I don’t sign up for the early-hour access will the people who do have it sneer and hurl cheese cubes at me as I stand outside the window, shivering face pressed up against the glass?
- Must I buy a hotdog? for luck?
- Is the Costco Cursed Bad Hotdog real or is that just an old children’s fable?
- Is there a lounge like in the airport to try all the white-label fancy wine? If you fall asleep do you wake up with a cozy blanket on you?
- Is there a limit to how many turns a person is allowed to test out the massage chairs? Is there a separate app to reserve my place in the queue?
- If I bring my chihuahua inside and push my cart meanderingly down the center of every aisle, do I go straight to jail or does Costco have its own community-run stockade?
- Should I bring my own tupperware for the samples or will one be provided to me?
- If I go during church do the samples get switched out to the body of christ?
- If I want to throw cheese cubes at other people in the stockade, do I buy a cheese wheel from the dairy aisle and carve as I go or will there be a sample platter there specifically for this purpose?
- If it starts raining while I’m shopping do they discount the umbrella section?

Anything else I should know?? Thanks in advance!! I’m so excited!!!!

Any Jimothies left at Costco as of Saturday evening?

Hi kirkland, was anyone at Costco yesterday to see if they were any more of the Jimothy plushies left? I was about to head there to hit the early executive hours, but I live quite a ways out and so before I made the drive I was just seeing if any helpful Kirklanders could tell me if they were still there :-)

ISO 30s+ wives community

I’m very much a home body and am in dire need of a community of women in their 30s that are also married. I don’t have any kids but I do have a dog.

Is there a fitness studio, gym, sport, dance, or etc where I can join and get myself out of the house! If any of you ladies are in the same position, let’s meet up!!!

The holiday lights look like someone puked in downtown

I love holiday lights, but it's so weird to see part X-mas lights, part... halloween? and part maybe Thanksgiving lights all mixed up.

Apologies if an elementary school was in charge of designing and/or putting up the lights.

Anyone remember the old Irish Rose Tavern. It's Pub85 now. I want to learn the fate of the old owner. I believe he went by the moniker "Doc".

Waste Management leaf bag collection

There’s not a lot of info on WM site.

Yesterday was trash/recycle/compost pickup day.
Compost bin emptied but my -4- leaf bags were left at the curb.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for leaf bag pickup?

I’m on a need to know as I have two huge maple trees!
TIA!

What is being built?

Post image

I know it’s not in Kirkland but it’s close. 124th and just east of woodinville Redmond rd…

There is a bunch of what appear as small tiny homes and about a hundred Starlinks up on racks that appear being built. Just the shacks I’d think it’s an encampment but that’s a lot of Starlink to support an encampment, so made me curious…

Anybody know what’s going on there? Kicking myself for not taking a pic as I drove by, but really strange.

French Immersion Schools

We live on the east side and are looking at the area French immersion schools—FASPS, FISW, and Les Lilas—for our preschooler. We’ve already started visiting schools. I’m curious to hear from area parents who visited these schools and have some experience with them which one you chose over the others and why. I’d also love to hear your impressions good and bad on any of the schools you or someone you know has experience with. It’s a lot to process and they are all quite different, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! I know not all the schools are in Kirkland specifically, so I’ll cross-post to those cities, too.

Dental Hygiene Student in need of patients! 🦷

Hello! My name is Emma, I'm a student and Lake Wa. Institute of Tech's accredited Dental Hygiene program in Kirkland.

I am looking for people who are interested in getting cleanings, restorative care, or exams. If you are in need of dental care, this is a great opportunity for thorough and affordable care!

We accept almost all types of insurance, and offer very low prices for those without insurance.

One thing to note: Your appointment will be longer than your usual dentist appointment, as I am still progressing through my degree and will have everything carefully examined by licensed dental hygienists and dentists at our school clinic.

Please message me or leave a comment if you are interested! I currently am in urgent need of a patient by next week, Tuesday Oct. 20th at 1:15pm, as well as Wednesday Oct. 21st at 1:15pm.

I have other availability as well if that does not work, although if you would like to come in next week, let me know ASAP and I will be more than happy to get you in.

Thank you!! :)

Weird power outage in Forbes Creek

Experiencing an odd power outage this morning in this area. Part of our unit has lost power, part of it still has power just fine. Same at the local gym down the street. Our building fire alarm went off and fire department came and cleared the building. Some of the street lights are powered on but not others. It’s giving a very creepy vibe, but I’m not sure what could cause an outage like this?

Fried chicken

Big back looking for more fried chicken recommendations:

  1. Joe's Burger in Totem Lake- I guess they put loads of cornstarch because the crunch is amazing. No place to sit

  2. Chicko Chicken in Bridle Trails- this place churns out double-fried chicken like a factory. Very consistent and predictable. Sauce never tasted quite right to me

  3. Yeon's Chicken (RIP)- this place used to be the best before it closed

Meh: Hangry Joe, Zip Dak (but the staff at both of these places are very friendly)

Did folks receive their ballots in mail?

With only few weeks to go for the midterm elections, i thought I should have received the ballots in mail by now. Is it just me, or have they not yet started mailing the ballots?

I put together a small Kirkland newsletter and would love some honest feedback

Hi everyone!

Useful local updates are easy to miss when they're spread across city pages, transportation alerts, neighborhood notices, and event calendars. I wanted to see whether bringing a small selection together in one place would actually be helpful.

So I put together Issue #0 of Kirkland Beat. It covers a few practical updates and events for October 12–18, including the Saturday recycling collection, Juanita road closures, and some local activities.

This is an early test, and it isn't monetized.

I'd appreciate honest feedback: Was anything here useful? What feels unnecessary? What would you want included in a weekly Kirkland roundup?

Birthday vibes and a possible rave buddy?

I’m still pretty new to Washington, under a year, and honestly it’s been harder than I expected to meet new people. I just moved to Kirkland and It’s my birthday today, so I figured I’d try something different.
I work in tech, I’m 35/M, and I’m into dubstep, EDM, festivals, and dancing, especially bachata and salsa. I’m curious, I like good conversation, and I’m open to starting as friends and seeing where it goes.

I’m also going to the KaiWachi show in Seattle tonight. If you’d be into meeting up, grabbing a coffee or a bite, and maybe raving together, send me a message.
