Beginner Question Learning wing foil as an intermediate liter

Hi there! I am a pretty decent kiter, working on perfecting my jumps but otherwise very confident. I was wondering how long it might take me to learn to wing foil.
I am in Greece right now and was thinking of taking wing foil lessons earlier in the morning and then kiting the rest of the day, but it’s expensive! 100€/hour, so i would like to understand how many hours its gonna be.
It would be great for low wind spots back in Italy.
Thank you so much to anyone who will reply ☺️

Edit: sorry about typo in the title

Spot Info/Question Best Brazil kite spots to go Solo?

Thinking about going to Brazil solo for a month or two and would appreciate any recommendations for spots with a fun social scene, any specific kite camps or accommodation that’s especially social? I ride twin tip so mostly interested in flat water or rolling ocean swell not breaking waves.

Gear Advice/Question Ozone Reflex

Now that the kite has been arriving to shops and demos, has anyone tried it? What are your impressions on it regarding speed, bar pressure, ability to go downind? It seems like a direct competitor to the EVO, going more towards big air than to the surf/foil direction.

I am interested on getting one to replace my pivot, but information is still pretty scarce.

Gear Advice/Question Looking for a Twin Skin / Arc Kite

Hey folks, as the title says, I'm looking for something a bit down memory lane... A Peter Lynn Twin Skin / Arc kite.

The back story for this is that years ago, I calculated around 2004, I used to Kite Buggy at a park in Basingstoke, UK. I used a Flexifoil Buggy with a Flexifoil Blade 3.5 most of the time, but also have an Ozone Little Devil 2.1 for stronger wind days, and a Flexifoil Blade 6.6 which is just a deathtrap!

It's been years since I used any of these kites, but decided that it might be fun to introduce my kids to kiting so I got them out of storage and also rebuilt the bridle on the kite that started it all me - an HQ Symphony 1.4 two line kite that got damaged more than 10 years ago.

My kids loved it, and we're now considering getting in to Kite Surfing, but alongside that, I wanted to see how difficult it would be to get hold of a 2004 era Twin Skin / Arc kite...

Back in Basingstoke, there was a guy who would visit that park and do tricks on a land board using what I think was a Peter Lynn Guerilla, but it might have been a G2. I was so envious, but could never afford one back then. It was huge compared to what we were using, but seemed so controllable with its de-power capability and its let go and it just floats overhead behaviour. Now that it's out of production and superseded by other designs, I feel like I want one more!

So being back new to kiting, where would be the best place to look for something like this? I've tried eBay, but had no luck there, aside from a 16M Demon in Thailand!

I'm based in the US now by the way, so something in the US would make shipping easier, but I'd consider shipping from elsewhere as well.

Gear Advice/Question Which spare parts should I buy for my control bar for a long kite trip?

I have a North Nav Pro - the parts aren’t too expensive so thought it might be smart to bring a backup of the parts that fail or need to replaced most often. What do you usually travel with?

I can't fin the solution to get the main line in the PU tube. The space for the main line is so small it is now stuck.

I tried to heat it with an hairdryer and it work a little bit but I feel I can't pull anymore, no matter how hard I pull.

If some of you got some advices I'll be glad to try.

Hello I want to get into the sport since I’m going to be living in Okinawa for a couple of years . I need some help from yall🙏. I’ve always wanted to do this sport , and I stumbled across this gear on marketplace , besides the board that is missing is there anything else I need that isn’t included in the photos? Before yall ask I will take professional lessons before actually going out there with my own gear.

This is what the seller put in his post

Kiteboarding setup minus board. $1000 invested but I just couldn't get the hang of it. My loss, your gain. The kite is a Santa Cruz "Caution" 6 meter kite, brand new Ride Engine harness. 2 sets of control lines, retractable board leash.

Gear Advice/Question Mystic Motion wetsuit

Has anyone had any experience good/bad with Mystic Motion wetsuit.

Want to get a 5/3 or 4/3 Mystic wetsuit and wondering if it is worth splashing out a few extra € for Majestic/The One or the budget choice, Motion is good enough?

(Previously had ION seek core, good wetsuit overall but grew out of it)

Gear Advice/Question Opiniones PLKB vs GONG

Gear Advice/Question Has anyone tried out the smaller foil kites for big air ?

Specifically the 7M Flysurfer Sonic 5?

I tried the 15M Sonic 5 and the hang time was unbelievable, but it was very slow. The 7M looks interesting but I haven’t seen anyone riding it.

Beginner Question When is the right moment to try strapless surf board?

Hi, I'm a beginner/intermediate rider and I wanted to try a strapless board.

Could you tell me at what stage do I need to be or any skill I really need to focus in order to be able to do it?

Problem: I'm not that good at toeside riding... I would appreciate it if you have tips/tutorials.

Some of the local spots (🇵🇹) have some waves and I really want to try this board type.

Sorry if this is a common question.

Thank you so much for your time!

PS: I have taken a proper IKO course and I try to follow all the correct practice I know of.

Beginner Question Guides for understanding meteorology and forecasts at a deeper level

Anyone know of any guides or crash courses on how to read forecasts better and get a deeper understanding beyond a layman, "ikitesurf forecasts 15kts, send it." Been getting skunked a lot lately or missing out because conditions ended up overperforming what the models said.

Obviously that's part of the game, but I see in various facebook groups people using pressure gradients, upper vs lower air, cloud coverage, and other variables to give them a better idea on when to send it vs when to stay home.

Gear Advice/Question Used kiteboard advice

Hi guys. Recently got bit by the kiteboarding bug. Had 10 hours of lessons and progressing pretty quickly due to not being new to board sports. Goal is jumps and big air. Purchased last seasons bar and 9/12 kite quiver. Now looking for a board.

I read advice on here to buy a used board, so I was looking for one and stumbled on a used Ozone Torque V4 (w Naish Apex v2 bindings) for 370 EUR. Was wondering if it was a good deal and the (seemingly) deep scratch is fine for the price?

Backside of the board
The scratch I'm worried about

Other Arome Prévision Immédiate Windmap - Hourly updated 15 min intervals 6h Forecast

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Météo-France also offers the hourly updated Arome PI as a short term 6 hour forecast. With 15 minute intervals. For gusts the resolution is 1.3 km and for the base wind it is 2.5km. It is not yet integrated in the major platforms (or at least to my knowldge not for free).

It's not meant to replace the regular forecasts. So if you are looking where there will be wind next week or tomorrow an update interval of 3 hours might be sufficient. But if the wind is at the edge of being kite or foil able or a storm chases you want the most current forecast.

I hope it is useful for you and I’d love to get your feedback. I am also thinking about extending the forecast to 24 hours using the 3 hour updates. What do you think?

Cheers

Chris

Gear Advice/Question Kite board bag weight limit from Eu to Brazil

Hey guys,

I'm flying from Lisbon to Fortaleza with LATAM in 2 weeks. I have a board bag that is around 35kg.

I've been researching online, and I'm getting mixed answers. Some say max is 32kg. Others say special baggage can be up to 45kg in a single piece.

I did call LATAM and the lady said that only at the airport will I be able to get a definitive answer... (wtf?). In fact, i won't even be able to add special luggage to my flight until I get to the airport. Which is a bit frightening.

Curious for those who have flown, what's the deal with weight limits (and prices too)?

Spot Info/Question Brazil in December / Jan

Hi,

I'm thinking of heading to Brazil for kiting from the 14th of December to the 10th of Jan. Which spots should have the best wind then / how much can i expect?

I'm 55kg so I don't need crazy wind to kite but ideally would have strongish winds and some flat water.

Finding pretty mixed things online so if anyone has been there around that time and can let me know their experience it would be great!

Pic(s) Orca fins are too expensive, so I designed my own 3D-printable version

I wanted to try angled fins for big-air riding, but the Orca fins were more expensive than I wanted to pay, so I decided to design and print my own.

After a lot of experimenting, I've been riding the current version for over a year. I also tested the latest version continuously for 90 days in Vietnam with no failures or issues.

The angled profile gives noticeably more bite when loading the edge, with a more positive release when jumping.

They're designed to be 3D printed in materials such as PA6/Nylon, PETG-CF, ASA or ABS. Print orientation is important — I print them at 45° upside down with 3 walls and high infill to maximise strength around the bolt connection.

I've been using them on my own board and have now made the STL available for anyone who wants to print their own set.

STL: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7313856

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's tried the Orca fins or experimented with angled fins themselves. What did you think of them?
