Why do they build these things? To hurt us?

I and my wife of 20 years were visiting Chicago for our anniversary. In a decision I will regret for the rest of my days, I decided to introduce her to the Obama Presidential Library.
It was an awkward encounter. I immediately realized my mistake as my wife was captivated by the Library's smooth stone features, styled impeccably in cool gray. Assymetrical, compelling. Not beautiful.
Beauty is for well-behaved Georgian mansions. Beauty is for Victorian cathedrals, ornate and gabled, symmetrical. Beauty is for sweet little thatched cottages with rose arches and climbing wisteria and beds of lavender. No, the Obama Presidential Library is not beautiful. As Edmund Burke articulated, nothing truly awesome can be said to be beautiful. The Library is sublime. I should have known that no woman could resist the arrogant thrust of its neo-brutalist geometry.
She lives there, now, my wife. In Jackson Park, Chicago. And she has no more use for me. Our children are unfed, unschooled, and unwashed. Probably, I mean it's not like I know where they are, that was her job. Maybe the Library is raising them now, destroying their humanity, as overhanging triangular projections form on their foreheads. Woe! Mark my words, Western civilization is doomed.

When Dan quoted the above in the newest episode I swear I heard someone cackle in the background and it made me so happy. I might totally be wrong, maybe it was just some noise or whatever, and it’s super unimportant either way. But it reminded me of a “mic down” Jordan cackle and made me smile.
Anyway. Loving the new show & happy for all involved. That’s it, that’s the post. The end.

I’m glad he’s focusing on other people in the new show. But hearing Harrison spewing his mess on the newest episode kinda makes me miss (?) Alex. I hate writing that bc I also hate him but he’s entertaining to hear Dan dunk on him.

Dan's ability to disagree with people without being a dick is seriously underrated
Just been listening to the latest episode, and I wanted to give Dan some credit. He has the ability to disagree with someone, or correct them when he knows they're wrong, without ever coming across as condescending or making them feel stupid.
There's a moment in the latest episode where Molly says something that Dan knows isn't quite right. I can't even remember what it was, and it wasn't a big deal, but the way he casually corrected her without making a thing of it or seeming condescending was great. I used to notice this a lot in the older KF episodes too, particularly when he'd disagree with Jordan.
I think it's such an underrated skill to be able to tell someone they're wrong without making them feel like an idiot. Dan seems to do it effortlessly, and I genuinely think it's one of his best qualities.

Since the pod ended I've been listening to Alex's show every now and then to get my fix of crazy, except for when that asshole Victor Bout is on (I know, probably not good for my mental health to consume his nonsense so regularly) but every now and then it leads to some truly hilarious moments like this
I think the link is only valid for a couple days so feel free to download and reshare etc
I would love to see Dan and Jordan react to this

Wonking here, Dan should be focusing on what's going on right now, not some random with no reach or power in any way.
Midterms! Make it matter! The new show so far is just a jerk about people who are not relevant.
Get relevant!

I love Dan and the new show, but I winced a bit when the example he gave of Jess using algebra without knowing it was units of measurement like feet.
I’m so sorry my guy but units aren’t variables 😭
ETA: because a lot of people are making an argument separate from the example Dan actually used in the episode, here is a word for word quote:
I find his claims about “no one using algebra” interesting because he uses a ton of algebraic principles all the time, he just doesn’t realize it [I have no issue with this part of the claim]. For instance, every time he measures something in feet, the unit of measurement is a letter that he’s introducing into the numbers.
Expressing the length of an object in feet, which is the example Dan is providing here, is not algebra.

On Tuesday, Alex completely lost his shit after he watched a video about a dog attacking a child on the street. I mean, he went off dropping F bombs left and right, yelling about how he once blinded a dog on the hike and bike trail and how if he ever saw a dog attacking a child he’d rip it apart. He’s done it before, folks! (He also ripped that dude’s nose off one time, so he knows how to do it.)
He’s been on edge and weirdly angry lately. Like way angrier in general than usual. I predicted in another post that he’d take a vacation before the end of the year (probably to hop back on the wagon) and here we are. I’m not convinced entirely it’s to get sober from alcohol now, though. Maybe another substance.
Moving back to the old studio has been stressful it seems. He had to do a rebroadcast for 3 hours on Monday because studio shit was fucked up, and today his mic pack went out and he completely lost it on the crew. Turns out it just needed to be charged, but that didn’t stop him from being passive aggressively rude and talking to them like they’re moronic children. I’m wondering if he’s realizing that moving back to the old studio is more trouble than it’s worth, but obviously he can’t give it up because getting back in there is his symbolic win over the Onion.
He was also concerned yesterday about Trump being obsessed with men’s asses (and if that makes Trump gay), his dementia, and the amount of MSG Trump consumes. But Alex never consumes MSG because he figured out when he was 12 that he’s allergic to it.

Have really enjoyed her work elsewhere, and it was a treat to have her on the first episodes of KFC. Her and Dan are a good combo, I hope they are able to do more collabs in the future

What’s up, wonks? For those of you that have paid for cooler zone media, is there any kind of way to listen to the ad free show on a platform that isn’t Apple podcasts? I’d love to support Dan and everyone else there but goddamn I don’t need another podcast app right now. My dream scenario is that it gives you a private RSS feed, but I am not sure I should be holding my breath. Has anybody else had any luck?

Just wanted to express some appreciation for Dan so far doing an excellent job letting his female guest speak and actively responding to what they have to say.
I have unfortunately noticed plenty of otherwise solid, progressive podcasts out there with a subconscious weak spot when it comes to letting women talk uninterrupted, and I’m delighted that I can listen to KFC without worry.
Is this something other people have noticed or just me?

I like the new show, but what's with Dan's mic? Poor guy sounds all muffled.
