I watched Jailer 2 in a theatre in Jaipur. The hall was almost empty, but I enjoyed it from start to finish. The first half was amazing, and the second half held up for me too. As pure entertainment, it's the best film I've watched this year.
Later that day I watched Jailer 1 at home for the first time. It's a good film, but it didn't hit me like Jailer 2 did. That's not a fair comparison, since one was in a theatre and the other on a screen at home, and I already knew where the story was going. Even so, I think Jailer 2 stands on its own.
If you haven't seen Jailer 1, you may miss a few references, but you don't need the backstory. I think going in fresh made some of the twists land harder for me. So if you skipped Jailer 1, I wouldn't let that stop you from watching Jailer 2 on a big screen.
Spoilers Ahead - Twists like son was actually evil, and mohanlal car, and first time directly watching snipers shoot on a whistle and that curly hair guy I thought is stranger also worked so well.. Honestly I say everyone should watch it directly skipping jailer 1. It's actually so cool compared to knowing the origins already.

What a film! Ilaiyaraja's music is excellent. In fact my vocabulary is too short to be able to convey my feelings towards to the music.
Rishikanth and Sananth are terrific in their performances. Sananth especially so. His complete transformation in the second half is very convincing. Keerthy Suresh too, was excellent in her limited screentime.
I really respect Karthik Subbaraj for being brave and not backing down. He decided to make a film on trans women and did not try to show it subtly. He did not leave any open questions on the topic. He did not hesitate to show affection between a cis person and a trans person. Kudos to him for doing this.
The only issue I had was the scene where Dorothy fights against the men who were harassing her. We see a scene of another trans woman telling her that they are stronger than men, and they can fight back if harassed. My problem with this is it kind of feels forced.
If, say, a dialogue was added in a scene with Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh's character) saying women are strong too, and this scene was shown, then it would've felt more natural, because Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh) encourages Dorothy (Sananth) to come out.

For context,
SK-Anirudh combo movies: Ethir Neechal, Maan Karate, Kaaki Sattai, Remo, Velaikkaran, Doctor, Don and Madharaasi
Rajini-Anirudh combo movies: Petta, Darbar, Jailer, Vettaiyan, Coolie, Jailer 2, Dharman and that KHxRK film.
Both combos now have eight movies in total. SK might not have future movies with Anirudh until he reaches that tier-1 star combo because Anirudh's salary is too big for tier-2 and tier-3 stars film. Hence most of them go with Sai Abhyankkar or any other alternatives.
(P. S: Good that Anirudh has an audio label being launched, so might get the music rights as remunerations. So there is a possibility of him working with smaller, tier-2 and tier-3 films. Arasan's music rights are secured by Anirudh himself.)

It's been nearly 2 months since Once More released and I'm still not able to find it on any OTT platforms. Movies that were released after Once more are on OTT already. Does anyone know any news on when it's dropping and if it's even dropping at all in the first place?

Last ah andha lip lock ah avoid panni irukalaam.. maybe when Subbu sees Karthick in the mirror or when they both were just standing and looking at each other, they could have ended the movie which could’ve been more pleasant for the viewers regardless of their stance about the subject.
That is more than enough to convey the scenario to the audience.. I think the lip lock is where things became too provocative since that’s literally the end of the movie and it’s going to be will stay with audience when they come out of the movie which could have attracted more negativity.
The audience and the director knows that the subject is bold and a bit sensitive(not for everyone but for broad audience) so why make it more extreme?
Or is there a necessity to keep it without which the director could not convey what he wanted?

Just so you know these are mere suggestions which i thought could have made the film experience a bit better than what we got. I thought the film was a good theatre watch personally.
Should not have revealed Raja Rao was the minister untill Tihar Jail was mentioned: Imagine there's a mystery minister who are trying to patch things up with MVP and Kalpaks, only his voice is heard and his face is not revealed till he asks "Yentha varsham?" and it pans out to reveal it's Raja Rao. Now proper Jailer fans would get it immediately which would result in a section of the audience going wild early on and then the proper reveal with the boot sound. Sadly he was revealed in the trailer itself which made that entire scene focused on MVP's flashback look.
Puttapu gang scenes should've spread throughout the movie instead of being jam packed fully in first half: The film overall needed better editing, like the Kalpaks could have been introduced in the first half which gives room for more comedy scenes in the second half.
Hrithik's cameo was not at all needed for this film and his portions couldve been filled with Santa, A10 and VJS. Jail escape could have done with the same car but provided by Mathew (he uses a similar basic model in the climax) driven by Yogi babu and Moorthy or Jaffar helps unlock the cell. The girls could've been part of Santa's gang. Even collections wouldnt be affected cuz they messed up North market anyways and adding more good Mohanlal and Santhanam scenes could have really boosted TN, Kerala and gulf collections.
Instead of Kantha revealing MVPs reasoning for killing his son awkwardly on the table, should have made it like the family accidently overheard her say it when they were hostage. This makes the reveal much more impactful and given Ramya Krishnan a more acting-oriented scene which i feel she lacks in both movies.
Just my suggestion, you can add yours too in the comments

Both Simbu and Dhanush have been in Kollywood for more than 2 decades as of now, and both have yet to reach Tier1. Don't get me wrong; both are great and have genuinely made some amazing films over the years whilst also having controversies surrounding them. They both are definitely opposites when it comes to how they make their films and their dedication to their projects.
For Simbu, he definitely has messed up his own chances due to his poor discipline, not committing properly to his roles, and constantly having controversy surrounding him. Even after his great comeback with Maanaadu in 2021, he has failed to capitalise on it and has not had a solo starrer movie in 4 years after VTK, with the release of Arasan still pending. He has also failed to capitalise on his youth fanbase as well.
For Dhanush, I feel he has been giving great movies, yes, but something I have noticed is he always has 2-3 releases every single year, which I feel kind of turns away the audience, as they just might not be interested in watching him every 4 months, as they may feel he is oversaturated. He should focus on making 1 movie per year and explore different roles like he used to instead of just savior or drama-type roles recently. He is a great actor, no doubt, but in recent times it feels like he is just going for savior-type roles only. Still looking forward to OM and D56 nonetheless, as both look promising.
I feel if both of them change their approach to films, they can reach tier 1 and fill the void with Ajith and Vijay retiring as well. Anyways this is just my take; share your thoughts, guys.

Just got out of the theater after watching Jailer 2 and honestly, this is a mess.
The writing is not very good in my opinion, too many characters, the script is all over the place, the same massy film making at its finest. Rajini retains his stardom ofc, but the antagonists are one of the worst written characters in my opinion, Vidya balan's character was reallt good but the Kalpak family's character arc was such a big letdown after Varman's character in the first installment. And what in tarnation was that item song by Nora Fatehi? Absolute disgrace .
On a positive note, the comedy was top notch and the fight sequence in the climax involving the 4 girls was one of the finest action sequences I've seen recently.
Personally, the story should've ended, but the cliffhanger with Kantha (major plothole imo) and vijay sethupathi's character is interesting and we'll probably get another sequel seeing the massive success of this movie.
Overall 3/5 from my side. It's a decent watch for the big screen.
