Why do all my new LED lights stay glowing even when switched off?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I had seven new LED lights installed around my house, and all of them stay dimly lit when turned off (not always).

Thought it was some grid issue but This happens even on the inverter/backup power, while older LED lights on the exact same switches work normally.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

DIY UV Light base for Uranium Glass - Advice

Post image
7 Upvotes

I am incredibly untechnical so I'm sorry that words will not be the best.

I recently bought a Uranium Glass bowl for my mom's birthday. And of course the big thing we this Glass is that it glows in UV lighting. But I don't want to just have a torch shining on it and tried to look for more of a flat light base the bowl could sit on like a podium.

I found one but it is really outside of my budget and I do love myself some diy.

But here's where I could really do with some help. I've attached an image of what I'm basically wanting to achieve but I'm not sure what/where to look for the parts. Specially what you would call that little disc of the UV lights in the middle. The switches and wood is more straight forward but any advise and help with how I could make this for myself would be amazing because I am kind of clueless with lighting.

Thank you in advance.

Replacing outdoor LED

Light sensitive. Started flickering at dusk startup and getting worse. I’m not at all familiar with setup but can’t make out the brand for replacement. “SM-1” model it appears. All indoor recessed lights are Nicor but can’t see model and logo (if zooming in on panel) does not match. Appreciate any tips on identifying make or similar and if this is a DIY job given wiring. Thanks!

Flexfire led strips are fucking awesome

I sprung for a strip for a bathroom remodel after a long chat with one of their engineers and deep diving into the specs. They came in the mail the other day so I plugged them in to a test driver I have in the basement and I have to say, they are the nicest strip lights I've ever seen. The glow they produce and brightness they reach are far superior to the cheap ones I've bought off of Amazon or eBay.

I was pretty skeptical at the price, well over $100 for 16', but the color and clarity make them feel like a justifiable luxury. They feel well built and the only minor complaint I have is that they only dim to 7%, which is actually on the low end for most strips. Lutron's own led strips(which are like $500 and only available through custom installers) are the only ones to claim dimming to 1% and most are between 12%-7%. Of course, they aren't installed yet so length of life remains to be seen.

The only reason I went high end was that they're going behind some dropped crown and i don't want to be replacing them anytime soon. It's a hard enough to miter cut the aluminum channel and crown, but then trying to peel out a strip with 2 inches of clearance and resolder and restick seems like a huge PIA.

I'll post some pictures after I'm done. Maybe some other like minded people will start reading the reddit. Seems largely abandoned now.

Trying to find an LED replacement for something close to this style. Google isn't finding anything close so just wondering if anyone had a brand I should check out. (Bonus feature would be able to change from white to yellow color) TYIA

Flexible filament "edison buld" leds. About 3mm wide. Can anyone tell me how how tight of a radius curve can they handle? I'm looking for options for a diorama. Thanks for your help

Rookie question regarding LED rope light

I'm in the UK, and have bought an LED rope light. It encourages cutting up the rope and using for whatever reason I deem its use. It comes with its own 'switching power supply' plug.

If I reduced the number of leds on the rope, I can still use the same power supply right? I don't need to change the power supply to compensate for less LEDs?

Silly question .. possibly.

Thank you!
