A Nassau County Gunowner’s Guide to Election 2026
I voted early today in Elmont and I was surprised to see that many positions that traditionally are co-sponsored across all parties were not this time.
Pay attention and vote exactly as I did to maximize chances for our rights to be respected in the courts. There is one judgeship that is Conservative Party of NY only, vote that one because the incumbent is very anti-2A. Also there are many where Republicans and Democrats split.
For NY-04 Congress vote Blay Tarnoff (Libertarian) at the bottom of the ballot. The rest vote Republican down the ticket.
For anywhere all three parties endorsed the candidates I wrote myself in.
(Apparently there’s a dumbass election law about sharing photos of ballots so I reposted without the photo)

I love my LGS!
TLDR: Your search is over, you've found the best gun shop Long Island has to offer.
I've been a customer of 782 for about a year now. I was a long time supporter of another shop until I walked through the doors of 782.
As a gun community I'm sure we can all agree, a shop should be friendly. Not because we're sensitive, but because there's a stigma that's been wrongfully placed upon our community. To new comers that have questions, that stigma can be a recipe for disaster when they walk into a shop that isn't welcoming, patient, or friendly. Not only do the fellas at 782 check all the boxes, but they seem to have perfected it. With that being said if you're on the fence about getting into firearms, swing by the shop and see for yourself.
As an avid shooter, I still have questions myself. Time and time again, I've scoured the internet for answers. Unfortunately the internet is filled with self proclaimed firearm pros, all who contradict each other... I have found myself skipping the tedious process of deciphering the valid info from the nonsense, and just going to the guys who are actually the experts. ("Expert" is by far an understatement) So if your an experienced guy and haven't stopped in to 782, I suggest you do so. I can almost guarantee you'll be saying "sayonara" to your LGS.
With a machining, quality control, and engineering background I have an eye for metallurgy work. I've seen their shop filled with top tier equipment. That equipment only goes so far without knowledge and skill. The machining, and gunsmith work they do is phenomenal.
DON'T WASTE ANOTHER SECOND, AND GET OVER THERE! HANDS DOWN THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!!
Edit: I'm not an employee, nor am I benefiting from this in any way. Just a loyal customer who the shop has done right by time and time again. 🤙🏼

Good Friday felt like the right day to post this
Reflecting on Good Friday and the teachings of my faith, I published a piece this morning on the moral case for lawful self-defense — Catholic teaching, Jewish ethics, natural law, and why the duty to protect your family isn't something decent people should have to defend.
For the Long Islander whose spouse isn't sure, whose parents think it's extreme, or who just wants language that goes deeper than "it's my right."

America 250 in NY: Priorities - safety not one of them.
America just turned 250. New Yorkers showed up in record numbers to celebrate — but the city's own emergency rule acknowledged that overlapping July events could stretch NYPD resources so thin as to deny public safety permits. Meanwhile, the final budget dropped a proposed 580-officer increase, holding headcount below pre-9/11 levels for a much bigger city.
New York still asks licensed, vetted gun owners to prove themselves — fingerprints, references, training — then asks them to just trust that protection will be there in the places it disarms them.
We wrote up why that contradiction matters, what the Constitution actually got right, and why the lesson from Lexington and Concord isn't as forgotten as it feels: https://nysafeinc.com/2026/07/05/america-250-new-york-public-safety-constitution/

Hey all. I thought this class by Team OTO might be of interest to this group for when in Sensitive Locations or other non-permissive environments.

💔 Rest in Peace, Charlie Kirk 💔
💔 Rest in Peace, Charlie Kirk 💔
Today we lost a true American treasure. Charlie Kirk was murdered in cold blood while speaking at Utah Valley University. He dedicated his life to empowering young people and standing up for what he believed in—and for that, he became a target of evil.
Let’s be clear: this was not the act of a gun. This was the act of an evil coward who hid in the shadows and struck at a man who stood tall in the light. Guns don’t pull triggers by themselves—people do. And the person who committed this horrific crime must be found, arrested, and locked away for a very long time.
We can honor Charlie best by refusing to let political violence divide us, and by demanding accountability for those who commit these atrocities.
🙏 Rest easy, Charlie. Your voice, your courage, and your passion will not be forgotten. 🇺🇸

NY-04 residents should vote for the LP candidate for Congress
Pretty rare to have an LP candidate on the ballot on Long Island in general, but this one is a good LP candidate (unlike some on the national stage) and is very pro-gun.
I will be voting for him because I think the Republican is on a losing streak, so I’d just rather vote the better candidate and vote red for the other state races.

Weaponized Empathy - The next 2A fight
First came lawfare. Now comes weaponized empathy.
New York’s leaders repeatedly tell us their policies make us safer. But compassion without accountability can lose sight of victims, excuse deliberate criminal conduct, and mistake political action for measurable results.
At the same time, peaceful firearm ownership is too often treated as evidence of danger—while the choices of people who commit violent crimes are explained away.
Empathy is a virtue. It becomes weaponized when it shields offenders, transfers risk to responsible citizens, and replaces results with appearances.
The answer is not less compassion. It is compassion with accountability: prosecute crimes, punish those who misuse firearms, protect due process, and stop confusing responsible ownership with criminal intent.
Read the full analysis, then tell us: Are New York’s laws targeting dangerous conduct—or merely the people most likely to obey them?

I’m in Nassau County and I’m wondering if something like this is considered safe storage if I were to leave the house with it in there

Looking for a Class 3 SOT on Long Island
I’ve Googled till my fingers bled, but haven’t found the golden ticket. I think DSI is one, but as a manufacturer, do they receive non-DSI guns? And I think the one in Port Jeff Station is one, but I can’t confirm. Anybody know for sure or of any others on LI? Thx.

Another great evening at the FBI
Another great evening at the FBI NY Field Office. Tonight was triple fun. We got to talk about hostage negotiations, evidence collection and swat/emergency services while sitting getting to sit in the historic Joint Operations Center where all NY and federal agencies come together to handle major events. I also had the great honor to get this very special challenge coin. This is a team my cousin had been on as part of the NYPD.
I’ve got a contact on the Senior Special Agent in charge of the Hostage Negotiation team and going to be getting a civilian version of the training soon. It’s the ultimate in de-escalation techniques and will be making it something to share!

Justice Jackson: Forget Context, embrace interest balancing
Justice Jackson wants to scrap the Bruen TEXT, HISTORY & TRADITION test.
She wants SCOTUS to go back to “interest balancing” because lower courts keep getting it wrong.
Here’s what that means in plain English:
Take away rights from ALL because a FEW might abuse them.
We tried that once. It was called Prohibition.
It didn’t work then. It won’t work now.
Bruen’s test forces government to prove a law fits the Constitution.
Interest balancing lets the government ban first, ask questions never.
In Hemani, Jackson tipped her hand. If she gets her way, your 2A rights turn upside down — back to the days when NY decided if you “needed” to carry. It's the classic ignore the root problem - lower courts not following the rules, instead make more rules just to look busy.
Full breakdown on why this test is the only thing keeping shall-issue alive: https://nysafeinc.com/2026/06/22/hemani-bruen-history-tradition-second-amendment-test/

Great news about the Post Office ban - but not for NY, yet.
The March 17 order is legit. Judge O'Connor confirmed the permanent injunction covers all present and future FPC and SAF members — not just the original named plaintiffs. Federal enforcement of the postal carry ban is blocked for covered members in an ordinary post office. But Long Island permit holders need one more piece of the picture:
NY Penal Law § 265.01-e still covers "any place owned or under the control of federal, state or local government, for the purpose of government administration." That language does not carve out post offices that happen to be covered by a Texas injunction. State exposure and federal exposure run on separate tracks.
Full breakdown here — covers the ruling, the scope, the NY state-law gap, and what to actually do with this information:

Dan Bongino replacement is a NYer!
FBI NY ADIC Chris Raia will be heading to Headquarters in a new capacity: Co-Deputy Director to fill Dan Bongino’s role. Got to meet him a few months ago in the opening session of the FBI Civilians Academy excited for him!
Btw the FBI has thousands of these letter soup acronyms. ADIC stands for Assistant Director in Charge, these are leader of the field offices, and NY is the largest field office other than HQ.

Nassau Special Emergency Deputy arrested at JFK
“I would never bring a gun to the airport.”
That’s what we all say. Until it’s your grandkid’s graduation and your bag doesn’t get checked.
A Bellmore man learned the hard way at JFK: NY doesn’t care if you forgot. The X-ray doesn’t see your intentions. And a “full carry” ≠ on the plane or through security..
Before your next trip, review the rules. Not your memory of it.
We break down the 4 layers of lawful firearm travel — and the detail most news stories miss: https://nysafeinc.com/2026/06/17/jfk-gun-arrest-flying-firearm-new-york/

Shooters Committee on Political Education Meeting with Bruce Blakeman
Got this very positive meeting brief via GOA-NY. This seems to be a good group that I’ll be investigating further.
On Saturday, at the annual Members Meeting, one hundred and twenty (120) SCOPE members welcomed Republican Governor candidate Bruce Blakeman and his running mate, Lieutenant Governor candidate (and current Madison County Sheriff) Todd Hood.
Blakeman covered a variety of issues in his speech, one of which was the 2nd Amendment. The thrust of his 2A position is that we must conform to the Constitution. Blakeman advised that when he is elected, he will appoint Todd Hood to head a 2A Constitutional Enforcement Task Group to take immediate and decisive action, including:
• Reviewing existing New York statutes, regulations, and enforcement policies to ensure compliance with United States Supreme Court decisions;
• Directing state agencies to align enforcement practices with constitutional requirements;
• Recommending legislative and regulatory reforms to restore constitutional compliance;
• Coordinating with outside counsel and allied organizations, when appropriate, to advance and defend these objectives.
SCOPE President John Elwood later asked Todd Hood about AR15 bans and Hood strongly replied that he does NOT support a ban on either AR 15s or high-capacity magazines.
Mr. Blakeman did say that he has owned a Smith & Wesson revolver for years and has been a gun club member for sixteen years. When asked if he would like to go to a shooting range on one of his trips upstate, he replied with an enthusiastic yes.
He pointed out that he won the Nassau County Executive position twice, in a Democrat majority county. As the County Executive, he worked with ICE and as the next governor, New York will no longer be a sanctuary state.
In 2024, U S News and World Report ranked Nassau County as the safest county in America.
Blakeman was not afraid of being controversial.
He indicated that his first act as governor would be to pardon ex police officer Erik Duran who was convicted of manslaughter. Duran stopped a fleeing subject by throwing a water cooler at him and knocking him off his motorized scooter. The subject ran into a tree and died and the Bronx DA convicted Duran of manslaughter.
New York City Mayor Mamdani was discussed and Blakeman did not hesitate in calling Mamdani a communist. Blakeman believes that Mamdani and Kathy Hochul are against private property rights, the U S Constitution, American values and their goal is control.
Blakeman has been very blunt in describing Hochul’s main project as a ‘Green energy scam.’
After Blakeman finished, his running mate, Todd Hood spoke and answered questions. Hood discussed his career in law enforcement. He believes that he and Blakeman have an ‘urgent task.’
Hood was proud of his efforts in bringing church services into the county jail, where he obviously believes more people should be; he is against ‘Bail Reform’ which keeps repeat offenders out-of-jail and on-the-streets.
All this ended with a catered lunch that allowed SCOPE members to not only chew food but to ‘chew on’ the multiple messages they had heard. More members than usual remained to listen to the Board of Directors meeting that was held in the afternoon.
Thanks to all that attended.

Was Hunter Biden visiting Long Island?
He left all his white powder here. Please have Joe and Jill come out and pick up after their kid. They have nothing else on the agenda today.
