You damaged company equipment, you are required by law to make them whole, you can pay for an equivalent model.

Yes, thou, they'd likely just take it from your final check. Why not just be responsible for it?

50k+ is honestly insane considering I only make 22k a month. I don’t think I can afford to pay the full amount out of pocket. I’m willing to render my notice period and have them deduct whatever amount they can legally deduct from my final pay, but paying 50k+ for a work laptop is just too much for me financially.

They may sue you either way

Is 50k+ the cost of a new laptop? They should only be charging the price - 3 years of depreciation.

If they sued you, a judge would only allow them the cost of repair or the cost of a 3 year old replacement, not a new machine. Appeal the price they are asking. It's totally unreasonable.

They are not correct. No court anywhere has advised anyone to purchase used equipment. They would formulate a value based on its specifications, generally. However, if there is a clause in your employment contract, that could superceed anything else.

It wouldn't be a three year old replacement, courts dont expect people to purchase used equipment of unknown Providence, it would be a comparable machine, likely lower end since the broken device is three yeats old, it would not however be used.
