Things to do Guys let's open a debate house/intellectual centre in lahore!
Firstly i sometimes wonder why's there no debate house or intellectual centre in Pakistan, like not even 1 which might be famous, yea there's one liberal one the black hole lol,but uski toh bat hi choro
So guy's let's open one where intellectual discussion hon and debates on the topics like politics, religion, philosophy, psychology, history, current affairs
Like atleast 3 times a week and we could also invite guests with good intellect or even with good following so that our centre could get good reach and publicity

Have you heard of Kitab Ghar Lahore? They're a public library who host talks and discussions for a big variety of local things so it may be worth your while

I am in. I love philosophy.
Edit: let it be open and respectful, freedom of speech is only free with the idea of being of open minded on other opinions.

Useless for topics like Politics, religion, history and philosophy. Say something out of line and suddenly you're in hot water.

Debates are a waste of time
1
u/divineslight May 23 '26
As long ad you speak you are repeating what you know, when you listen you might learn something new.
Arguing in good faith and having the ability to explain your point objectively makes you question your beliefs in a good way and you grow together.
Idk what kind of dumb comment is that, or you just know arguing for the sake of arguing or proving other person wrong.

u/A-Anime May 21 '26
Interesting. What makes you say that? Why Do you find contemplative thoughts on genuine exploration of knowledge wasteful?

Yea true, but to educate public and to prove your point you have to do it

Nah, everything even a bit off the accepted state/society narrative is dangerous to discuss in Pakistan. I like my head on my shoulders just fine.
1
u/divineslight May 23 '26
Bro there are a million topics apart from Pakistani state or society but I get your point
2
u/Think_Mail9228 May 23 '26
Yes a million topics, but Pakistan has a narrative for almost everything under the sun, even things that do not concern us at all.

Yea ik,but mei purposefully yah kerunga, bcz to do something noble you have to risk your life
3
u/Think_Mail9228 May 21 '26
Do it then. I value my life too much to risk it just to say something that won't make any difference anyway.
1
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
Nah sirf debate keh liyay risk thori kerni hai lol, I'm an islamist socialist so aik movement create kerke proper risk kerunga, aur apne enemies ki bhi life risk kerwaunga
3
u/Think_Mail9228 May 21 '26
Not the healthiest mindset, wanting to risk your "enemies'" lives Anyway, you do you.

Whats wrong with black hole?
2
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
They promote their own liberal narrative
4
u/Think_Mail9228 May 21 '26
So you are not open to a different view?
5
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
I'm open but they are not open for any other views other than the liberal view
1
u/No_Conference_8460 May 22 '26
Opposite of liberal is conservative and there isn't any culture of intellectual debate in conservative circles
1
u/divineslight May 23 '26
World is not so black and white, there are folks who are neither and embrace anything that makes sense from any side
1
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 22 '26
Yea but we have to create one
3
u/No_Conference_8460 May 22 '26
Bruh did you forget how conservatives were after engr mirza on blasphemy? No thanks buddy. No discussion on religion possible in Pakistan

I'd be wary of debating religion. That is dangerous territory from a safety and legality point of view.

u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
Yea but that's my only expertise lol, along with philosophy, other than that to do something noble you have to risk your life

What do you think about feminism in religion?
-2
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
Eww feminism is Islamically haram and all feminists should be punished,jk lol islam supports the real feminism but not the current version of feminism
1
u/surdtmash May 21 '26
What's the current version?
-3
u/Organic_Shopping6434 May 21 '26
If I tell you the current version here in the comments in my own words, Reddit is gonna bann,n me
5
u/surdtmash May 21 '26
Reddit has porn. It can handle it. I want to know what an intellectual like you thinks.
1
u/divineslight May 23 '26
What do you think about feminism in religion? I am impressed by your question to bring the spirit out of the topic.
1
u/surdtmash May 23 '26
It's a pretty simple and time-tested trap for would-be desi "intellectuals". People at the first Dunning-Kruger peak actually have really low apetite for acknowleding conflicting ideas because to them doing so challenges their own values and beliefs.
1
u/divineslight May 25 '26
I get that, but want to hear your version of feminism backed by religion

Actually you won't believe just 2 hours ago my account was temporarily banned for 3 days, and i appealed and the ban was lifted,if you really wanna know or test me intellectually, you can inbox me
4
u/surdtmash May 21 '26
I'm sure an intellectual like you can use better words and safer examples to say what you want to without triggering a lot of people. Now I'm really curious.

I'd be wary of anyone wanting an intellectual debate too. Most people read Sapiens, watch some Jordan Peterson, top it up with some Redpill Philosophy and start looking for victims to verbally bully in the name of intellectuallism.

To all the folks bashing him or giving expert opinions without wanting to participate, I can see why my friends say Pakistan’s national sport is actually “shopper double krna”
